Beautiful Saturday Morning

 

For those of you in the US, it’s a holiday weekend. Memorial Day, which is actually the last Monday of May every year, is celebrated as a 3-day weekend. It marks the beginning of Summer and is usually celebrated with swimming, cookouts, family get togethers and other outdoor activities.

I’m not exactly sure how or when it became a ‘summer fun weekend’, but Memorial Day is actually a national holiday that was established in the 1800′s to remember those who died or went missing in the Civil War. It has since become a day of remembrance for all we have lost at war since then as well.

I’m not suggesting we shouldnt plan a BBQ or hit the lake. I think that family and friends are an important thing in all of our lives, and seasons should be celebrated for all that they offer. But it’s good to know the true meaning behind a national holiday as well, and to teach that to our children.

Regardless of how you are spending your weekend, I hope the weather is as beautiful where you are as it is here in Tennessee. We are expecting 90 degree days and plenty of sunshine.
