How Much Does Spam Cost?

Enough with the Spam already! 😐

During the busy summer months, I have even less time to sit down at my computer. And lately it seems that I spend the majority of my time online filtering email and deleting spam. It's incredibly frustrating...

Is it just me, or has there been a huge increase in junk emails lately??

I've been using SpamArrest for a year or two now, and honestly I love their service (because it works). I signed up for a free trial with one of the oldest email addresses that I own. This is an email address that gets important emails - along with thousands of spam messages a day - so it was well worth the price to sign up when my trial ended. It's around $40/year or $19.95 for six months - something like that.

The only issue that I have with it is that the price increases for each email address that you add. And the more sites that I launch, the more addresses I have to manage. Over time I have found that I am faced with mountains of useless spam... or paying out more and more to get rid of it.

And it's not just the number of email addresses that I own these days... but I honestly believe that there is more spam coming through than ever. It blows my mind to see the number of messages that come in per hour - 24 hours a day!

In the end, I sit here looking at my Inbox and think... whatever it costs, I'll pay it. Enough is enough. This is ridiculous. It's not just a huge waste of my time, but it really just drains me mentally and makes me dread checking my email at all.

And then...

I met Paul, the developer of SpamBully. We talked extensively about the program, and it seemed like the perfect solution.

Instead of a fee-based service that you pay for monthly or yearly, SpamBully is a program that you download once and then own forever. And at under $30... it's a steal! Did I mention that this one program works with ALL of my email addresses? 😀

What did I do? I got busy and didnt get around to installing it. And what a silly excuse, because I could have had it set up and running in half the amount of time it took me to filter email in ONE morning! I'm such a fruitcake sometimes 🙄

So that's what is on the agenda today. I am installing SpamBully and setting it up to manage my group of email addresses. Cross your fingers for me - I am hoping this takes care of my Spam issues once and for all 😉 Because...

I miss the days when I actually enjoyed my email...

Edited to add:

Installing and setting up SpamBully was super easy. It only took about 3 minutes, start to finish. What you do is 'train the program' by allowing it to analyze your email habits - and by the looks of it, it's very intuitive.

After that completed (like I said, 3 minutes), I decided to take it a step further and manually train the program a bit. I chose almost 1,000 emails that were blatant spam and clicked the 'spam' button that SpamBully added to my email client. It went through a quick little process of "learning and processing spam" and moved them to the Spam folder.

These werent things like confirmations, link exchanges, article submissions - or even junk mail from places I had signed up (spam, yes - but at least relevant spam). I left those alone for now, and gave it 961 messages to process that were obvious spam. You know the kind I'm talking about:

-Any med for your girl to be happy!
-Why seek? Choose any love pi11 you want!
-ÀºÇà±Ç´ë.Ã⸸À»Ãë±ÞÇÕ´Ï´Ù.½ÅºÒÀÚ¿Ü100%½ÂÀÎ
-Full of health? Then don't click!
-All love enhancers on one portal!
-VIP handbags - LOW price!
-Looking to ReFi or a Home Equity Loan?
-Great loww ratess
-Give yourself the edge over the other guys

This is the kind of stuff that I get by the thousands... every single day. I figured about a thousand various junk messages was a good start on telling SpamBully what I dont want to see in my Inbox 😉

If this does the trick, I'm going to be absolutely amazed (and I'm going to kick myself for not having installed SpamBully sooner!)

Nope it's not just you... The spam on all of my addresses has quadrupled in the past month or so... I've also gotten to where I hate email. If Spam Bully works for you I will be downloading it for sure!

In the past two weeks I've been getting MOUNTAINS of email spam. It's as if they've come up with a new way to get past any roadblocks that used to work before.

I'll definitely be checking this solution out Lynn. Thanks for the tip!

    AWESOME! Thanks for the tip!

  4. So far I am SUPER impressed!

SpamBully creates a folder for "Spam" and one for "Unsure" - so your email doesnt just disappear forever. You can doublecheck it to make sure that it is filtering correctly.

And I should mention - 'training the program', even the 961 messages I went through, only took 15 or 20 minutes. It's a matter of clicking the "Spam" or "Not Spam" buttons that SpamBully adds to your email client.

It's simple to use, fast to set up... and so far it is working like a charm. It's so refreshing to check my email and only see the messages I need to address - instead of a sea of useless emails that I have to search through for the important stuff.

  5. Wow!

Overnight was the true test - it seems that's when most of the junk mail comes in. I sat down this morning, though, to nothing but legitimate messages in my Inbox...

Ok... now I can kick myself! 😛 SpamBully is awesome!

My spam has suddenly become...ummm...rather NAUGHTY.

Maybe my 14 year old got on and went somewhere he shouldn't have??

I don't think there's a bigger time waster than clearing that stuff off.

    Except possibly ice cream.

  7. I dont know - I cant believe half the stuff I get in my own inbox... and I'm the only one on my laptop! 😯 LOL, I think they just mass mail that stuff out to everyone...

After all, I'm not buying a house or losing my hair or needing viagra - yet somebody seems to think I need to be taking care of all three (and then some) 🙄 😆

  8. Please note that it is not presently available for use with Thunderbird. Please do add your voice(s )to those requesting a Thunderbird version.

  9. every day, Im still getting some on from the Congo, telling me that Jesus told them that they could deposit 32 Million into my bank account, cause their rich husband died, or the likes, and some really creative versions thereof. Or the famous eBay/Paypal phishing. At this time, Im almost wishing someone would send me some Viagra. It might keep me awake while wading through the muddy cesspool called "spam".

  10. Make sure you contact Paul on that, Robert - I would love to see SpamBully more widely available for use with a variety of email clients as well.

This is by far the best solution I have ever seen!

I guess in one way, it's nice to know I'm not the only one. I have seen a drastic increase in the amount of spam in the last couple of months, even to email addresses that are not publicly displayed on some of my sites.

It is very annoying and time-consuming to say the least. The ones that kind of make me laugh, though, are when they send the er... um.. "guy stuff". I'm like, "Hello? If you really did some research, you'd know I am a woman.

I will definitely check out SpamBully.

  12. I know what you mean 😛

Let me know what you think of it. I have to say... it's nice to be rid of the spam and get back to my real email. SpamBully was the perfect solution for me! I'm still amazed that it actually worked 🙂

  13. Hi

    A small tip..

Use [SPAMARREST] passwords to evaluate the nature of contextual ads.. with each login (to rephrase that correctly, when you refresh your page) their code changes... the system is good mainly because it changes in line with the contextual connections... so you can use these while evaluating google adword campaigns... I know it sounds a bit absurd.. but I do that now and then...

Infact, if you have a list of such codes... you could do well in the contextual scene (personal opinion, only)

Now getting down to spammers... if they want to get at you, they will get you no matter what you put up. Sources such as [spamarrest] filter out those small time spammers, but leave ot the hard-core ones.. this is not their fault, but its just that the other side will find a way in

    bye
