During this weeks webinar, one of the participants shared a great resource for learning how to install and manage your own WordPress blog.
It’s a free WordPress Video Series from the 10-minute Expert. The series contains 10 videos, all less than 10 minutes in length, that explain and illustrate the installation & customization of a WordPress blog.
Each of the 10 videos cover a specific part, so you can easily pick and choose what you would like to learn or need the most help with. The topics covered in the series are:
- How to Create a MySQL Database Using HostGator.com
- How to Download and Install WordPress
- How to Configure WordPress Options Part 1
- How to Configure WordPress Options Part 2
- How to Add a Post or Static Page to WordPress
- How To Manage Blog Posts in WordPress
- How to Manage Comments In WordPress.
- How to Manage The Blogroll in Wordpress
- How To Change, Edit, or Install a Wordpress Theme
- How to Configure WordPress Plugins
Check out the WordPress Video Series
Now there is no reason not to set up your own WordPress blog!
If you are just getting started, I would highly recommend HostGator (the one used in the video series above). I host ClickNewz on HostGator as well, and it is very easy to set up WordPress on their accounts. To help you get started, use my coupon code to get your first month free.
Best,

Hi guys, I just visited the website. I must admit it is really useful for many beginners. However, is there anyone who could advise on how to create a customised wordpress theme without knowing any computing language?
For other beginners who might like to have some form of “customised” themes I hope Lynn will allow me to recommend me another author with a series of wordpress tutorials.

I have to admit that you need to sign up for it but then it is free though. Other than the tutorials, the objective is his free SEO optimized wordpress themes.
Hopes this helps too and if anyone can answer me I would be thankful. Thanks Lynn

Hi Mark,
What I usually do is find a theme that is close to what I want, and then make modifications to it. That might include changing the color scheme by editing the CSS file, or creating new images to replace the images it comes with, etc.
You can also outsource it as there are several good theme designers that specialize in WordPress themes.

Hi Lynn, had to post this here cause I’m not sure how to reach you about this.
My account on the SSWT forum shows inactive now and will not let me log on anymore. This is really a bummer because I just became an elite member. My username there is dbh if you want to look.
I might have caused this myself because I was trying to change my email address in my profile and was eating at the same time and only typing with one hand so I may have hit a wrong key? Anyway, sorry to post here but not sure where to go. Thanks!
P.S. - Great WP article!

Hi again, I figured it out, sorry. Not sure what happened but all is well now :).
Lynn Terry // Nov 18, 2007 at 1:30 pm
No problem Darrell & thanks
For future reference, my email address is posted on the About page here at ClickNewz and is also in the footer of the Self-Starters Weekly Tips site as well. Glad you got it resolved!

Sweet. I’ve been thinking how to lay my hands on Wordpress help and about writing help on forums.
I will download this and see how it helps. I also appreciate the fellow who gladly shares this with the rest of us.
