November 2007 ClickNewz Blog Stats

Traffic was down slightly during November, but only by less than 200 unique visitors from the October stats.

That's still more than 1,000 over what ClickNewz saw the month before, in September.

The number of RSS Subscribers and Email Subscribers are growing steadily, and regular readers are more active than ever with an overall post-to-comment ratio of about 1-6. That calculation includes posts from almost 2 years of course. The main page currently shows posts with 10 to 20 comments each.

All that to say I'm not overly concerned. But I'm still interested in digging into the stats for November to see what I might find...

November 2007 Stats for the ClickNewz Blog:

  • Unique Visitors: 13,882
  • Total Number of Visits: 30,006
  • Inbound Links (main page): 30,900
  • Inbound Links (total): 33,000

Looking more closely at my stats, specifically the traffic breakdown by days, it looks like the US Thanksgiving holiday weekend was responsible for the dip in traffic. November 24-26 were the 3 slowest days of the month, in regards to unique visitors and even the number of pages viewed while on the site.

Of course, I didnt blog on the 23rd & 24th either 😉 And new posts from me that week were few and far between. I was busy with pumpkin pie and holiday shopping myself, no doubt!

Interesting to note is that Google sent about the same amount of traffic during November as they did in October... but StumbleUpon.com sent 54% more traffic this month than the one before.

Google has always been my top referrer in regards to unique visitors. I cant say that anymore though... Stumble Upon has officially knocked Google down a notch! Cool 😀

In addition to search traffic, BlogRush sent 39 new visitors (less than half the number they sent last month) and there were over 14,000 hits from other web pages...

Top 5 Referring Websites:

note: this list doesnt include my own website and discussion forum, which are generally always the top referring websites…

Anyone notice that forums send targeted traffic? 😀

There are currently 915 posts and 5,193 comments contained within 20 categories.

If you dont feel like doing the math since the last stats update, that's 33 new posts and 516 new comments. I'll close by repeating my comment from last month about my goals for 2008:

I will be promoting ClickNewz more agressively during 2008, now that it is securely established. My initial goals are to double Email & Feed subscribers to 1,000 each, and to double the number of Unique Visitors to a steady 25,000/month. I expect I can accomplish that easily in 4-6 weeks, and will journal the strategies and the progress. Keep an eye out for that in early January!

  1. I look forward to reading your journals and strategies for achieving your goals, Lynn. I love how you are so willing to share so much with your lucky readers.

Great Lynn! Do you have any strategy for attracting traffic from StumbleUpon?

  3. I actually dont... but I have an article in the queue by someone else that I am going to review and possibly publish along with some other resources for gaining traffic from StumbleUpon.

Obviously useful, original content is going to contribute to that, as its a social network where users choose and vote and comment on content from around the web.

More on that later this week though, as I'm interested in studying it myself!

  4. wow, what a great stats.
What stat counter software do you use?
What strategy do you use to get visitor?

  5. I use AWSTATS to view my site stats, which is part of cPanel with my hosting account. As you can see from the data above, I get traffic from search engines, forums, social bookmarking sites, other websites that link to my posts, etc.

To get the inside scoop on some of my traffic methods, see both pages of the Traffic Q&A at:

    Lynn,

As a successful blogger, do you have any tips on how to get visitors and subscribers to your RSS feed? I have just started a new blog at http://www.webdesignability.com. and I have some traffic but not much yet. What did you do to grow your traffic, visitors and subscribers?

  7. Unique, quality content + SEO + Social Networking has been my strategy to date.

    See: http://www.clicknewz.com/social-networking/

Of course, it took a little time too - and I have a long way to go still - but its been a great experience overall. Definitely worth my time & energy!

Thanks for publishing your stats very month Lynn. I enjoy looking at my own stats and taking note of where the traffic is coming from so it is always interesting to compare with a more established and popular site.

  9. Thank you Katherine. To be honest I havent been real focused on promotion this year at all - but rather in writing and in growing my readership base. I'll be marketing my sites more aggressively in 2008 and look forward to sharing how I do that, and what the results are in future stats posts.

    Nice idea here.

Just to show that one must always care about what is going in stat area in online business.

Hmm -- Google still sending lots of traffic. I am getting boosted in confidence that I should not worry about the Google PR too much.

  11. Nah 😉 But that reminds me - I was going to remove some sponsored ad wording and change some text around. I need to get on that this weekend...

  12. Cheap Web Hosting says

Congrats! I'm glad to see I'm not the only fan of AwStats 😉 I will never get though why they don't use an absolute length for the different bars in the bar charts. I.e. why when you have 1000 uniques for instance and 5000 impressions is the uniques bar much longer than the impressions one? A great mystery...

  13. Personal trainer affiliate marketing teacher says

You said, "I was going to remove some sponsored ad wording and change some text around. I need to get on that this weekend…"

What did you mean by sponsored ad wordings and why do you wants to change the texts? Can you let's see exactly the wordings?

Maybe I can glean some ideas and lessons from this. Thanks for your consideration.

  14. I was referring specifically to old posts on my blog that were part of a case study for sponsored blogging (payperpost.com, reviewme.com, etc). The requirements are that those posts stay live for a certain amount of time - which has now passed. While I will keep the posts live, I can remove the "sponsored by" wording on them. I believe this 'trips a Google filter' 😉

  15. How do you generate so many back links? It seems the hardest thing about building a web site is to get backlinks. Any tips?
