New Hostgator Coupon Code: Save 20%

Hostgator has a New Year Special good through February 1st. You can save 20% on their web hosting service by using the coupon code “NEWYEAR” (without the quotes, of course).

I tested this coupon code myself, to see which of the two current coupon codes is the better deal. As you know, I offer a coupon code where you can get your first month of hosting service free – actually it’s 1c (a penny), but that’s about as close to free as you can get when setting up a hosting account

So which of the two coupon codes should you use?

Here’s a breakdown of the 2 coupon codes for HostGator, and what you’ll get with each:

Coupon Code: wordpress
With this coupon code you’ll get your first month for only one penny. The most popular plan is called “Baby” and is $9.95/month when paid monthly. This option will let you get set up and get things rolling for practically zero investment other than your domain name. A great deal!

Coupon Code: NEWYEAR
This coupon code expires on February 1st, and so is a limited time offer. They dont tell you much about it upfront, other than the code will save you 20%. A quick test I did this morning shows that the code will give you a 20% savings on your checkout total – but not a continued savings. Your next invoice will be at regular price. Their prices are incredibly competitive, so that’s still a great deal.

If you are going to set up a Baby hosting account – which is their popular full featured hosting service with the ability to add unlimited domains/sites – and you plan to pay monthly at 9.95/mo, then the best coupon code to use is “wordpress”.

Even if you dont plan to host a blog or use WordPress, the coupon code will still work for you. That will save you $9.94 upfront. The 20% off coupon code (newyear) would only save you $1.90 on your first month.

However, if you plan to pay yearly, you’ll want to use the coupon code “NEWYEAR”. This will save you $23.88 upfront instead of $9.94. Your first year of hosting would total $95.52 – which is equal to $7.96/month.
