Home Sweet Home – My New Home Office!

For the past 2 months I have been busily working on one of my personal goals: to buy a house. Not just any house, but the house… Home.
For many years now, my goal has been to buy my dream home before I turn 35 (which happens in June of this year). The idea being to settle down and create a ‘home base’ before the children leave the nest.
Up until now I’ve lived a somewhat simple life full of freedom and flexibility, debt-free and somewhat nomadic. I have had some great experiences in the last decade alone – from a fast-paced lifestyle in the city with an office on the square, to living in a cabin on the lake and homeschooling the children.
Being an entrepreneur and working from a home office has afforded me the luxury of choices. My business is international and my office is mobile, putting an endless number of options at my fingertips along the way.
Its been a good decade… No life is perfect, but I have to admit that I truly love mine. My worst day now is far better than my best day ever was in my ‘previous life’ (you know, when I had one of those “jobs”). I really have to catch myself when I complain, because I have it made – and I know it. Not that it came easy, but that I make it a point to appreciate the results of my hard work.
When I started my first business, my initial goals were to be home with and for my children. I had been working long hours (50-60/week) with my son in preschool and my daughter on the way. I was in a rut with no easy way out.
I achieved that goal of course, and many others along the way. With the freedom of lifestyle choices came the opportunity to shape my own future, and figure out what was truly important to me. Getting rich was never a primary goal. For me it has always been about lifestyle and family. I never had that wealthy vagabond dream… I simply wanted a better life, a nice home, to be a good mother, and to make my contribution to the world.
And so I’ve worked hard at finding and keeping that balance, and buying a house fits perfectly into the master plan. Not just any house, but one where I can stay – and where the children can always come home to.
Even after strategic planning and a carefully followed timeline, along with finding the perfect house, I walked into the Closing with butterflies in my stomach. This is it, I thought, I’m finally settling down!

The beautiful red brick cottage-style house is officially mine
I will be moving in a few weeks, hopefully before March, and I absolutely cant wait to share more pictures with you. The location is perfect, the house is incredible, and I couldnt be more in love with it!
The main floor is almost 1800 sq ft with a fireplace, formal dining room, large sun room and private back deck. It also has a full attic (partially finished) and a full basement (also partially finished) – and even a white picket fence.

As much time as I spend at home, raising my children and running my online business, it only made sense to invest in the perfect house. One I could call home, where I could settle down and make great friends, where the kids could have room to live and space to grow, and where I could settle in and write my books.
This house is all of that – full of character and inspiration – and readily waiting to become the beginning of my happily ever after
In addition to being the perfect house, its located in the perfect spot. It is right in the middle of town, but the back door opens to a deck that faces thick woods. Perfect for a woman like me that craves the best of both worlds – where I can walk in one direction and be at the river, or walk in the other and be downtown.
It sits at the top of a quiet established street in a small southern town. The very same street where my grandmother lived as a girl. Her father built the first home on that street, which is still standing and is only a few doors down from my place.
There were hundreds of decisions to make, tons of paperwork to do, weeks of waiting, dozens of documents to sign… its been a stressful process. But it went smooth as far as those things go, without a hitch really, and I made that final signature on Friday at 4pm…

This has to be one of the best moments of my life
Best,

Thanks for sharing your exciting news. Sounds like the perfect home for you and your family. Loved hearing of the family ties to the neighborhood. Very cool! All the best.
Congratulations Lynn – beautiful home from the pics you provided.
Working online we sometimes tend to forget that we do have “another life” and if the house we are living in is not comfortable and easy to move around in, it is not easy to work. I’m very happy that you found your dream home right in the middle of everything you love!
Wishing you life’s best,

Hi Lynn, the house looks wonderful. It’s nice that the kids are young enough that they’ll remember it as “home”.
Dear Lynn,
I am so very happy for you! It was pure pleasure to read about your wonderful goal – your house and your feeling of getting it, finally!
Thank you
Yes it is, and that was the goal. And fortunately they absolutely love it here. It’s high time I started getting settled down
lol
Its almost surreal at the moment. I spent many years working towards one goal after the other, and just staying the course. I knew this was coming, as I worked towards it diligently, but to actually be at this phase in my life is more exciting than I ever imagined.
I’m glad I did things the way I did. There were times that I questioned the strategy and might have settled for less – but this was definitely worth it.

Great house, love it… however, the photo tricks the eye as if the house is sinking to the left hand side
All the best!
