Be A Better Blogger (BABB Series), Day 7:
Pitch a guest-post idea at the most popular blog in your niche. Guest-posting is a fantastic way to raise your profile and bring targeted traffic back to your blog. Navigate to the most popular blog in your niche and think of a post idea you think would work well there (but make sure it’s one they haven’t posted about before). Pitch your idea to the blogger and offer to write the full article if they’re interested. If not, you can always use the idea on another blog, or on your own blog.
-
This is a very good way to gain both exposure and traffic, one I have done myself and would highly recommend. In fact I recently wrote an article titled Guest Blogging For Traffic & Exposure that you should check out. It includes several resources and examples.
Instead of just offering to write the post, I suggest you go ahead and write the article and then send it to the blogger for review. Be sure to mention that the article is unique and fresh, and that it has not yet been published anywhere else.
Ask them to respond within 72 hours - if you dont hear back from them you can pitch the same article to another blogger, or you can publish it on your own blog.
This would be a great task to put on your monthly agenda
Best,

Any tips for finding the most popular blogs in your niche? My niche is pretty unique - my blog is aimed at pet business owners - and I find myself struggling to find other blogs. There are a lot of blogs aimed at pet owners but these would be less targeted.

Great idea. Something I am going to have to give some thought to.

Lynn,
This is a great series. I have a little trouble keeping up, though I have read each entry you’ve written and implemented some of them. I think I got up to the one on including a photo on your blog posts.
I’ll keep going, sure and steady!
Thanks.

Hi Danielle,
Is your blog targeting people who are already in the pet business, or perhaps people who might be interested in starting a pet business? If the latter, there are plenty of blogs that would entertain business ideas or business start-up topics.

My blog is targeting both audiences - so yes those business ideas blogs would be a good match.
I will be starting a coaching program where I will be targeting existing pet business owners. Perhaps forums are a better place to find this audience.

Forums are great too

Some of these challenges are a lot more difficult than others!
I love this one, but it may take me a good while to accomplish it.
Danielle - I can certainly use an article on starting a home pet business. Send something my way if you like.

Thanks Linda - I just sent your a message through your contact form on your blog. I’d love to contribute an article on pet business. Let me know your email and I’ll send one over to you.

Great going Lynn, but I know I will have to spend some more time on some of these to get my blog going in the right direction.

Thanks again Lynn for this very good advice. This is a very good source of traffic and exposure. Just be sure to make it interesting enough to turn the readers into commenter’s and you are on the road to success.

Its definitely worth the time and effort to get your content published on popular blogs in your niche. Not only do you get the exposure, but also the one-way link back to your blog.
How are you guys coming along with this one?

Linda was kind enough to publish my article about starting a pet sitting business on her blog.
Thanks again Linda!

Great! I’m familiar with Linda’s blog, but the formatting or something seems to be off today… I’ll have to check back on that.
