BABB-18: Show Your Readers Some Appreciation

Today is Day 18 of the Be A Better Blogger series. We’re using the outline offered by Collis Ta’eed in an article titled 31 Days To Becoming A Better Blogger, and our topic for the day is:

Day 18. Thank your readers. Set aside a day to say thank you to your readers — even if it’s just a short sentence at the bottom of your latest post. Of course, if you can be innovative in the way you say thanks to your readers, it’s a lot more likely to leave an impression...

This is a very important point for any kind of publisher. Never take your readers for granted, and always do your best to recognize and appreciate them.

One of the best things you can do is interact with your readers on a regular basis. Pay attention to their comments and feedback, and respond to it personally if you can.

A few tips:

  • Respond to emails and blog comments in a timely manner.
  • Address your reader by name in your response.
  • Thank them for their input.
  • Put their suggestions into action.

There are other opportunities for a public 'thank you' as well, such as a blog milestone or anniversary. Your readers are the people who leave comments, recommend your blog to others, and link to you from their own blogs & sites - so let them know how much you appreciate them for their part in the success of your blog!

I have a post up my sleeve that says exactly that. I sat down to write it last week, but then I came down with the flu (yuck!). I'll publish it in the next day or so. Keep an eye out for it 😉

Best,

Discussion

  1. One of the greatest things I see on really good blogs are the blog owners who pay attention and take the few minutes to say thank you when people comment during their visit. I've seen comments go pages as each person is recognized for their valuable input. This, I feel, is one hallmark of a great blog 🙂

On a side note, I've been up to my eyeballs and need to go back several days to get the most of your posts! Sometimes there really is not enough hours in the day!

  2. Hi you have written exactly how i feel , we should appreciate comments make by others and is a good way to make your blog friendly !

    Thanks for sharing : )

  3. I agree Diane. I know that personally its a bit disheartening when you leave a really great comment and it just sits there without ever getting a response - especially if it is a discussional type comment.

Done right, the comments on a post can often be just as enlightening as the post itself!

I think it's a great idea to thank readers personally and not to take them for granted. I also give them free loyalty products (such as digital information products, etc.) that are within the category of the newsletter or list that I am publishing for.
