BABB-24: Advertise On StumbleUpon for $5

March 24th, 2008 · 4 Comments ·

Today is Day 24 of the Be A Better Blogger series. We’re using the outline offered by Collis Ta’eed in an article titled 31 Days To Becoming A Better Blogger, and our topic for the day is:

Day 24. Buy a $5 StumbleUpon advertising campaign for your best post. $5 buys roughly 300 visitors. If some of those StumbleUpon visitors end up adding more votes to your article, the result could be a traffic snowball much larger than the one you paid for! Before you start, you can read this post at ProBlogger on advertising with StumbleUpon.

Definitely check out the article that Skellie linked to above, as well as How to Draw StumbleUpon Users Into Your Blog.

The most important part of this task is choosing the page on your blog that you want to advertise in this campaign. It is recommended that you promote a specific blog post and choose matching demographics, instead of sending traffic directly to your main page.

I am looking forward to testing this out, and of course I’ll share the results with you here. I believe I’ll test different types of posts in each campaign, but I will start with my How I Make Money Online post for the initial test.

That post is a bit long but it has a good mix of content and illustration, fact and humor, and it was very popular with my readers. It also attracted a few bookmarks and stumble reviews, so I would guess its the type of material Stumblers tend to like.

Here’s the link to start your StumbleUpon campaign:

Before you get started though, read the two articles I linked to above and also check out these blog posts so that you have a good idea of what to expect:

Best,

Thank you so much for this information. I remember you saying that you were getting more traffic from stumble than from Google. I never though advertising would be so cheap so I will definitely look into this.

I have read posts from other bloggers with both great and minimal experiences from this, but at only $5 its worth it to get creative and try it out. I think its important that you choose a great post and then promote that post specifically instead of doing a general blog link and hoping it sticks. But like all online advertising, we’ll have to test it and see what works best on SU.

    Hey Lynn,
Do you think this method would work for a specific niche-like wedding ideas- or is it just for the internet marketing niche?
How do you think we could adverize on stumbleupon for a specific niche?

That’s a great question Eren - but I honestly dont know. The only way to find out will be to test it. I would guess it would work best for anything related to online business or internet marketing, but I havent browsed the site enough to see how popular the other niches are there…
