10 Conversion Secrets

Frank Kern published a new video this week, where he discusses 10 Conversion Secrets with Matt Trainer. In this video they go over 5 case studies showing you how to triple conversion rates without even changing your copy.

In this post I'll share a screenshot of the video, tell you why (in my opinion) you shouldn't watch it - and what you should do instead...

The image above is a screenshot of Frank's video. Notice the bare feet, the word "BONG" and the blank stare. And this is just one still shot. If you actually watch the video you'll also see footage of Frank Kern skateboarding and two grown men playing Call Of Duty 4.

There is actually great content in the video, if you can get past the distraction of all these little details. Reading through the 80+ comments that follow, its obvious that I'm not the only one that had that problem...

The video is also entirely too long (or too "slow"?) to hold my attention. You might enjoy the entertainment factor, but personally I get a little antsy sitting through a l-o-n-g d-r-a-w-n o-u-t presentation when I can get the content in any other format.

What Frank and Matt are discussing is the content in a free report at 10 Conversion Secrets. You can click on that link and download a free PDF that is basically the cliffnotes version of the video.

Fast. Clean. Simple.

Each of the 10 "secrets" focus on a specific web page element. Unlike most conversion strategies, they have nothing to do with copywriting and everything to do with placement. Adding (or moving) one of these elements can improve the conversion rate of a web page dramatically.

You'll also have the option to get Matt's email series, which goes into greater detail about each of the 10 conversion secrets. I just opted in myself and look forward to reading more. Scan through the PDF yourself and decide if this is something that can help you increase your profit potential:

Glad to read I'm not the only one who couldn't sit through the whole video.

When I see Frank Kern I just think of the pre-surfer dude persona when he was more of an accountant looking dude from GA. 🙂

Most of the comments on his blog where about his surfboards, shoes, electric skateboard, the bong sticker, the video editing, how cool he is, but nada on the actual report. I wonder how many actually read it? 🙂

  2. Joe richey says

I know these guys claim to do alot of numbers
online but do people really buy into the dope smoking, surfing, video game playing persona being SKUED as the top internet marketing dudes in using mass control in the presentation? Do most people buy from this scenario? I am not sure I trust 100% just my view as a potential viewer looking to buy!

  3. When I see Frank Kern I just think of the pre-surfer dude persona when he was more of an accountant looking dude from GA.

    Same here, Alan. Like this:

Right? 🙂 That's Frank with Jason Moffatt (now "J-Mo").

As for whether that "transformation" helps or hurts business in the IM niche... my guess is that the transformation itself is inspiring to those that witnessed it personally. Perhaps it gives them hope of breaking out of their own stuffy lifestyle. That would be my guess.

Its obviously not going to work for everyone. We all have our own definition of success, and a specific lifestyle we would like to achieve.

  4. Just to be clear - I used to own a skateboard myself, have some experience with a bong, have funneled beer, often work barefoot, and even had office space with full staff at one point.

My intention is not to come off seeming judgemental. That wouldnt work anyway since I'm sure at least some of you have seen me downing jager bombs in MySpace photos 😆

Bottom line is: Decide what you want out of life, how you want to be, WHO you want to be - and go for that with everything you've got.

If you want to get high & surf, go for it! If you want to buy your dream home and spend tons of quality time with your family - do that. If you want to travel the world and only work 4 hours a week, make it happen!

The point is to stay true to your own desires. Follow those that are doing what YOU want to be doing. Period.

    k, thx. 🙂

  7. Joe Richey says

Very good points..... I think the get rich internet
crowd wants to paint the picture its so easy to make cash online... You can surf, sleep, travel, makke moonpies, play poker, or what eve ryour lifestyle may be and still make good money online! The reality is that the internet is a like any other business. It does not happen overnight, it doesn thappen in 3 months, it doesnt happen in 6 ect... There is alot of little things you must do to monetize your business.. The task is daunting in making money to the degree if your not loaded with desire and ambtion your really better off getting a job. These IM promoters all flash huge checks and promise the latest course will make you a success overnight but once again it does not happen!.. Thes guys have large lists, large affiliates and allegiances with other marketers in the business who wash each others back to raise money.. Its been pretty much the same crowd since 2002 and they have a good marketing model and I dont knock that. But my point is that the internet is full of people seeking to make a living. Yes money can be made. The competiton is fierce and tough! If you work clever you will win the game. If not then this is not a business for the weak at heart!

SIDEBAR REQUEST Where are these pictures of Lynn at? Thanks Joe

  8. You're right Joe - its not an overnight get-rich-quick kind of thing. I wouldnt go so far as to say its not "easy" (relatively speaking) or that the competition is "fierce" because its actually not.

But the image and the lifestyle perception might be a bit misleading to those who havent been following that particular crowd for more than just a year or two.

Personally I'm not amused by the foul language, alcohol consumption, skateboarding tips, etc. When it comes to work, I'm pretty particular about the information I want to consume.

I attended a roundtable at a live event recently where the men on stage spoke in language that would be more common in a bar than at a professional event. I just dont get into the circus end of it.

That doesnt mean I dislike any of these guys. Frank Kern has A LOT to offer. And I consider Jason Moffatt a valuable friend in my network.

  9. Where are these pictures of Lynn at?

Boy did I ever open a can of worms 🙄 LOL

  10. Joe Richey says

Let me clean this up some.....

Yes the work is easy, (better then digging ditches, waiting tables, or swinging a hammer allday)

Frank and Jason do have talent and I do manage
to learn from every marketer including Frank and Jason and in fact I am a member of Easy Video with Jason and I have learned from his members are several new tricks which I have successfuly implemented into my marketing bag of tricks and poison!.

I will have to disagree when you state the competiton is fierce online...... In fact marketing costs are increasing as the internet reaches a platau in growth ability and with all these IM types pitching conference after conference it just makes the marketing field even more polluted with marketers and salesman! Much like EBAY your markets reach a saturation point of everyone trying to do formula a, b, or c and then all of a sudden a light comes on! Who is the customer? We cant all be salesmen and ladies?

I think a few disclaimers are needed to protect the public just starting in marketing.... Yes it takes work. Yes it takes investing money for sites, ads, and marketing tools. Will you succeed? Will you fail? That is beyond the promoters control. Some people will work. Some people will tan, Some people will surf... You get my point. Those who implement have a better chance then those who dont...

I remain pretty firm on my view, its not super easy online and the learning curve is vast and confusing for a new person online. Its not cheap to run a business online and most will fail and some will succeed. That is the sobering truth. Now if your ready to roll your sleeves up and make a firm committiment physically, mentally, and socialibly then you have a real strong chance in winning.....

  11. Alan Petersen says

Too funny Lynn! That's the pic. I agree with you about the judging part. Whatever makes people happy. I'll have to dig out a picture of my punk days. I thought I was so cool. But I was 18 at the time. 🙂

  12. OK, Ok, 66 years old here. What the hell is Bong?

    Jim

  13. Ahhh, Two Maggot infested, Dope smoking, Hippies that are capable of selling millions upon millions of products that we fall all over ourselves to get their "Stuff"...

Definately something wrong with this picture!..

    Jim

  14. I’ll have to dig out a picture of my punk days. I thought I was so cool. But I was 18 at the time.

LOL That was pretty much the point I was making *grin*. Not being judgemental, just doesnt catch or hold my interest these days 😉

  15. LOL Jim - now you see why I said "just grab the free report" 😉

  16. Lynn, all things aside...

The reason I find your blog to be one of the BEST on the net right now is your community! You guys are f**king halarious! Every time I come on here to see whats going on inside the brain of Lynn Terry it's like I'm reading a book. Going through the post and then down through the comments one by one is absolutely refreshing. Your blog has real people, who participate, and speak their minds.

    It's very informative, yet entertaining!

    Go team!

  17. A very high compliment Elijah, Thank you!

I have to agree - this really is a great group 😉

  18. Dennis Edell says

Yes indeed Lynn, enough worms for a small-mid size bait shop (especially on the heals of the blooper video).....thanks for the report 😉

  19. I thought it was 10 percent conversion rate.. LOL.. Btw, 10% conversion rate is a great ebook.

  20. Dan Reinhold says

"A picture of Lynn Terry and her bare feet holding a bong."?

    Never tried that...

Holding it with my bare feet, that is.

  21. Hi Lynn and fellow readers.

The most important tip I got from the video is to place your opt in box at the top right of your page.

The pdf is also very beautiful, for the rest of the video, i guess its because they wanna make the interview more interesting?

Its the camera people who suffered more 😀

  22. Dennis Edell says

Has anyone actually been able to "download" it? For me it just comes up as an online slide-show type thing.

  23. I didnt - I read it online as well. Did you try File > Save As? You may try the link in the email follow-up as well...

  24. Lynn, the sticker is a Billabong sticker. Billabong is a surf company based in Australia. The term Billabong refers to a small lake or something.

I smoked pot in my youth but rarely do anymore ...mainly because it makes me paranoid.

You would be well advised to think about the impact your blog posts make.

If you don't like my video or blog posts, fine. However, you should make sure you know what you're talking about next time you make public statements insinuating drug use on my part.

  25. I'll bet someone used Photo shop and took the Billa out of Billabong on that laptop.

Frank, you should find out who did that to you.

    Jim

  26. Hi Frank,

I'm flattered you stopped by 😀

I actually do like your blog, and have followed your work for years. As for video, I am not a fan in general and those thoughts are part of a thread we've been discussing here at ClickNewz for the last few months now (ie the distraction factor).

As for impact/insinuation, I was simply stating the obvious. Nothing more, but certainly less, than was left by your own readers in the comments on your video blog post.

Great report, by the way, and great job of getting it out there. Well done 😉

  27. Jim. The same guy who called me "Maggot Filled". What's the all about?

The sticker actually DOES say Billabong. I just didn't realize there would be people who would find interest in a sticker in a video. So we didn't zoom in on it.

I'm leaving the sticker on there now out of spite 😉

And by the way - the apostrophes on your website's copy are displaying as question marks.

It might be more profitable to pay attention to things like that instead of stickers on another guy's laptop. Just sayin'...

And Lynn, point taken. I even made a clarifying post on my own blog.

The fact that people pay more attention to a sticker than the content delivered gives us good insight into as to why so many marketers aren't making money.

This is a nice scene you have going here, by the way.

  28. One more thing, Jim. The hyperlinks are only active in the words "Find the Perfect Diamond" but the entire phrase "Find the Perfect Diamond Engagement Ring" is blue and underlined.

You're losing clicks to the Nile site because of this.

You might also want to reference that organization in your copy, otherwise it's a little confusing.

  29. This is a nice scene you have going here, by the way.

Thank you, Frank 😉 And dont feel bad. I shared some of the same observations in a recent video/post myself:

    http://www.clicknewz.com/1455/shocking-confession-i-dont-like-video/

No matter how great the content, the majority of the feedback tends to be on the shirt that I'm wearing in the video :p

You and I share some of the same connections by the way, so I'm sure opportunity will arise for us to meet at some point. Looking forward to it!

  30. Try it barefoot next time. It's awesome.

OK - I gotta go - no kidding, I'm off to do a quick consult for a new surf clothing company.

I think I'll tell them to change their name to "Hey Kids! Smoke Weed!"

  31. Robben Salter says

"DONT MAKE KERN ANGRY, you wouldn't like him when he's angry!" (KERN SMASH!)

    Sorry, Hulk Humor.

I love you frank, even if you puff the magic dragon on the beach. keep up the great info!

  32. Hey guys,

I try to peer pressure Frank into naughty stuff all the time, but believe it or not, he's more into getting high from his Hippy Smoothies he makes everyday. That and taking big hits of Oxygen and Salt Water when he's beating his face into some Pacific Ocean waves. He's the best underwater gymnast I've ever seen! No kidding.

While most of us boys do like to party and have a good time, Jim is painting a totally unfair picture, and to be honest is just being somewhat of a jackass.

Calling us "maggot infested" and dope smoking hippies?

That's pretty below the belt Jim.

Everything I've witnessed Frank do in the past few years were targeted to help people, and enrich their lives.

And much of that has nothing to do with internet marketing either.

So while you spew trash on blogs, and try to act holier then thou, I'll be out surfing with my billaBONG suit on and will feast on the nice tasting maggots crawling out my rear. Cuz after all, I'll probably have the munchies right?

Truth is, surfing, raw foods, and great friends has actually curbed my appetite for alcohol, bad food, and even the occasional medicinal puff. You should give it a try some time Jim because whatever you are buzzing on sounds like a pretty lame time.

    Peace,

    J-Mo

  33. Hi Jason,

I agree with you 100%. My remarks were totally inappropriate. I first heard the remarks (long haired, maggot infested, dope smoking hippies) from a radio talk show guy that is known for his sometimes poor humor.

In my attempt at poor humor I used the same remarks toward Frank and thought it was somewhat humorous. Right up to the point that I pushed the send button. And the rest is history. Can’t un-send it.

    Jim

    Hello Frank,

First off, my sincerest apologies to you for my remarks. I have read and listened too much of what you have taught over the years and find it to be very professional.

You could have very easily slammed me “up side” the head hear on this blog. However, you chose to give me a helpful critique of my site. That’s not something that I see a lot of.

Again, please accept my apology and my thanks,

    Jim

    Hi Lynn,

My apologies to you for being a “Jack Ass” on your blog.

    Jim

  34. Apology accepted, Jim. The original comment does make more sense in that context - thanks.

  35. The Story Ideas Virtuoso says

    Frank,

I've been a fan of yours since Jim Edwards grilled you a couple of years back, before you moved to California even. I love your sense of humor and irreverence for almost anything, including yourself.

It can't easy being someone who actually cares about a lot of things and yet comes across as not taking much of anything seriously. That couldn't possibly be the case, however, since you're obviously crazy like a fox and incredibly successful.

Catch the waves, surfer dude. You've earned it.

    Deb Gallardo

P.S. - Thank goodness everyone has kissed and made up. I hate conflict. On the other hand, controversy creates a lot of interest. Way to go, Lynn!

  36. Back to the original topic - how many of you signed up for the Conversion Secrets mailing list? Great tips there, which all include before & after examples. Good stuff.

  37. Hi Lynn, there may be one or two things worth considering there for our own site -- thanks for posting this. ~ James

  38. Scott Tousignant says

    Hey Lynn,

I like the approach that you took with promoting this free report. While everyone else was saying, "You've got to check out this video", you were saying, "Don't check out the video, just download the actual report."

I also agree about the long drawn out videos. There have been quite a few promotions lately and many of them direct you to a video message first.

The problem is that most of these videos are over 30 minutes long. I don't have 30 minutes to sit and watch a video. I'm trying to cut down on distractions.

Get to the point and then send me to your sales page. Or break it up into smaller chunks. I find 9 minutes and 57 seconds is my threshold.

May I suggest a topic for a future blog post... "Effective Ways To Leave Comments On Blog Posts"

If you are going to leave a comment on someone's blog post, make sure that you contribute something of value or at least stir up some controversy.

Comments like, "Way to go", or "I love your stuff", really don't get recognized.

Obviously we take comments on our blog seriously. Frank didn't pop by out of the blue.

I've actually found some great joint venture partners because of a comment that they left on my blog. This person tried to contact me through email, but got lost among the daily mess called my inbox. But when they left a high quality and informative comment on my blog post with a relevant link back to one of their blog posts, I ended up contacting them.

    Choose your words carefully.

Lynn, you've definitely created a great community here. The key is your thought provoking posts. They always encourage discussion and participation.

Thanks for your honest recommendation of the 10 conversion secrets and for the heads up with the video. It's good to know that there is quality content and I'll try to watch it in chunks.

I look forward to what you'll teach us tomorrow.

    Lynn,

I signed up. I know Frank does quality stuff. (That's the technical term...) So it was a no-brainer decision.

    Great concept. Placement is everything.

  40. Rick Butts says

    Welcome To My World Lynn!

I know what it feels like to try to make a simple point - and then get hammered by readers who are determined to use your post as a diving board for a personal attack.

It sure brings in a lot of comments, though, huh?

I TOTALLY get what you said and it's a very valid point - you are a good reviewer and since subscribing to your blog - I've found myself coming here to read your stuff.

OH GREAT - another good blog to read! LOL

Frank Kern is Teflon - nothing bad really sticks to him because:

    1. He truly cares about his readers/viewers/peeps and he is unapologetic in his chosen style.

    2. He is very good about showing up and fading any heat - quickly - just as he did here.

    3. He makes a dandy case for personal alignment and authenticity.

You do these things too, Lynn. And, that is one of the reasons I've started following ya...

    Rick Butts

  41. Just to clarify, the free PDF and mailing list are offered by Matt Trainer. He is the "other guy" in the video with Frank Kern 😉

  42. Thank you Rick - very much appreciated. And I agree with your comments regarding Frank Kern as well. Glad to have you as a reader - I've become quite a fan of your blog as well!

  43. Hi Lynn,
I’m not trying to beat a dead horse here but I thought this might be of interest to you and the other readers that were following this thread.

The website that I have attached to this post has been up for about one year. It has never been higher than page 5 on Google and that was for about 1 day, then back to page 10 to 15.

I don’t use any PPC, just article marketing through ezinearticle.com, article marketer and a couple of the others.

Earlier in this thread I made some remarks about Frank Kern. Frank later stopped by and read all the post and had some comments of his own. He actually pointed out to me a couple of things that he saw wrong on my website.

I made the changes that he spoke of 7 days ago. I just looked at Google a few minutes ago and my site is number 6 on page 1.

Frank, if you happen to stop by and read this I would like to thank you for your advice, you are truly a gentleman.

    Thank you also Lynn,

    Jim

  44. Mike Stronghill says

    Hi All,

I just wanted to chime in due to so many internet marketers turning of words and taking them the wrong way. It was a fun read. It is difficult when things are taken out of context and made to look another way. (just ask any celebrity).

My thoughts were really about Matt Trainer. I was trying to find him when I stumbled upon this blog. (Once again, side tracked from work at hand).

Again, glad to see that everyone was able to represent their point of view and the battle ended in piece.

Piece to all of you and wish the world could resolve issues this quickly and easily.

    Mike

  45. I ended up receiving some great emails from the 10conversionsecrets.com website, between June 23rd and July 3rd .

But between August 11-18, I've received 4 emails ("bad news...", "i'm sorry", etc) directly from Matt Trainer. I dont recall signing up for a second list. Am I the only one, or are the rest of you experiencing the same?

  46. The Story Ideas Virtuoso says

No, Lynn, you're not the only one and it's not a second list, since Matt and Frank did that video together and Matt wrote the sales letter for one of Frank's launches.

If you've followed Frank's latest launch, the "giveaway" for shipping and handling, of a bunch of DVDs, his latest thing is using negative subject lines to get people to open emails. I've had a whole rash of those from marketers jumping on yet another band wagon. I commend those with some creativity who are less overt in their imitation of Frank's technique.

I think the conversion secrets might have been a "warm up" for this latest Kern launch.

Just MHO. Nothing to back it up but gut feelings and lots of emails...
