Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin… Killed
I was incredibly sad to read the news and find that “The Crocodile Hunter” had died on the set this morning. Steve Irwin, the popular Australian ‘mad man’, was killed by a sting ray while filming for “Ocean’s Deadliest”.
The Crocodile Hunter has become a household name over the years. Certainly a favorite in our home. I can remember when the kids were younger and someone would yell “hey, the crocodile guy is on!” and we would all pile up in the bed together to watch it. Leaning forward, mouths gaping open in total shock at his audacity, we would be glued to the television for the entire show.
Watching him year after year we met his wife, his babies, some of his crew. He had a way of making it into the homes and hearts of people all over the world.
Steve Irwin was a man who was truly doing what he loved most with his life. And he did it with so much confidence and so much zeal… that he surely did seem invincible. It’s a great shock to wake up and hear the news that he is gone.

His producer and closest friend, John Stainton said on Croc One today, “The world has lost a great wildlife icon, a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest Dads on the planet. He died doing what he loves best and left this world in a happy and peaceful state of mind. Crocs Rule!â€
I hope that people will not only remember the colorful expressions of “She’s a beaute!†and “Crikey!â€, but also remember Irwin’s passion for life and what he was doing. It is a lesson that we can all learn from. Source: Crikey!

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’ll be sure to remember to check your blog in the future. It looks like you have some good information here.
It’s a sad day for the Irwin family. I really do wish them the best.
Thank you, Shawn – you have a great blog there! It’s unfortunate we would meet over such sad news though…

Lynn, I heard about Steve when I was driving home and almost had to pull the car off the road. It was the biggest shock I’ve had for a long time. A true larrikin, he lived every day to the fullest, and his passion and love for life, his family and the planet was evident in his every gesture.
His smile will be remembered forever, and although I never met him, I feel like I’ve lost a true friend, my heart is heavy here in Sydney and I mourn him greatly. A huge loss to the world, but his legacy will live on.
We should all show as much enthusiasm for life – every day – as Steve did. Hug a stranger today.

You are right, Teena – his legacy will surely live on. *hugs*

Steve Irwin was one of the biggest icons we know. All his life was dedicated to the wildlife and his family. When I saw the news on TV it was a real shock. Rest in peace Steve Irwin.
Hello there Lynn,
I was listening to the radio on my way to work that morning when I heard the awful news. I cannot begin to tell you how it touched my heart and soul. I enjoyed watching ” The Crocodile Hunter ” whenever I could.
I live in the Cayman Islands, so I know a thing or two about stingrays. They never was one of my favorite animals.
Steve Irwin might be gone, but certainly won’t be forgotten.
