I was having lunch with my good friend Zack a few months ago. It was an all day working lunch at a hip little sushi bar in downtown Chattanooga, and we talked for hours about resources and influences and ideas.
That was the day he shared this book with me, The Power of Full Engagement. I flipped it open to the first page just to scan the contents, and was immediately pulled in.
We had laptops and wi-fi there, so I handed the book back to him and clicked over to Amazon.com to order a copy for myself - it was that good, I had to order it on the spot! This is the first book I have seen that resonated as deeply with me as the old classic Think and Grow Rich...
Over the next few months, as I found little pockets of time to sit down and absorb this book a few pages at a time, it proved itself to be the best ten bucks I had spent all year. Well, make that $20 because I gave my copy to a good friend of mine and ordered myself a replacement.
The book addresses our issues with Time Management, with burn-out and with the phases of our lives. It is chock full of practical solutions that are so simple to implement that you can see results immediately. And what I like most - they include real world case studies of peoples lives. People you can relate to, with issues we've all experienced ourselves.
Ever find yourself pushing through the day, feeling less than energetic about where you are or what you're doing? Wish you didnt lose your momentum by 11am? Ever wonder what happened to the joy you felt about your cool job or your happy home? Wish there were more hours in the day? (of course!)
We know there's more out there to life than we are experiencing personally. That we can achieve more than we are at the moment. "Other people are doing it - why cant I" - right? The Power of Full Engagement addresses it all...
For me, this book provided much-needed confirmation. It explained why I've been able to run my business for 12 straight years without ever experiencing burn-out. It completely erased the guilt I've always felt about my coveted afternoon nap. It confirmed the reasons I am one of those people that have an envied 99.9% uptime. And it takes away every personal excuse not to do more, be more, and have more...
This book is my TOP recommendation for the New Year. You absolutely must get a copy and give it a read for yourself. Its eligible for free shipping on Amazon.com so you might as well add it to your next Amazon order.
Trust me - you're going to love it!
And by the way, 70 of the 97 Amazon Reviews are 5-star. Definitely check out those reviews, because they explain it much better than I do.
The second half of the book actually includes the complete Full Engagement training system. By the time you get there, you'll already have been taking action and seeing incredible results. So the training system just really pulls it all together into a perfect action plan.
It even includes a development plan, worksheets and logs - everything you need to take advantage of what the book shares.
If you havent already read T&GR - the classic by Napoleon Hill - you can download it for free here: Think and Grow Rich.
Then click over to Amazon and order The Power of Full Engagement.
To my friend Zack: thank you for turning me on to this book - it is every bit as powerful as you said! I've truly enjoyed it, and will continue to pass it on to all of my closest friends.
Best,
Happy New Year, Lynn!
Sounds like a great book, indeed, so I ordered it. There is another book my daughter just told me about I think you should check out. I ordered it from Amazon at the same time:
http://www.amazon.com/Middle-Place-Voice-Kelly-Corrigan/dp/1401303366/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230787346&sr=1-1
(Hope you can use that link, but the name is "The Middle Place (Voice)". ) I think it will prove to be a fantastic book.

I should have mentioned that the link above is what my daughter emailed me. I don't have any affiliate relationships at all yet, and I am not trying to sell anything or make any commissions from your site (neither is my daughter).

Hi Lynn,
Happy New Year!!
Thanks for sharing so many great resources. I just read a great (easy to read in 1 hour) self help book on the power of Willpower, How to develop self discipline. Amazon page http://twurl.nl/13snln
I think everyone should read it to get 2009 started off on the right foot. It will teach you simple steps to set realistic goals and easy steps to complete them.
Perfect resource to help set and follow through with your New Years resolutions and other life and business goals.
Especially useful for people who have a hard time getting started, taking action and completing tasks and goals.
All the best to everyone in 2009 - Make this year the best yet!

This book had been sitting on my shelf for the last 5 years. I recall having been on a buying binge but never got around to reading it - duh! 🙂
Considering that this book came out in 2003 I recall. It's probably considered a "classic" by now.
Regards
Phil
I love think and grow rich. I really read that book like 5 times. If everyone have such great reviews for this book I will have to take a look. The best thing we can do for each other is to share the good things in life.
I really like this blog the way you write is feel real and trusting and everyone on here loves you. Thats a great thing.
I highly recommend an afternoon nap if you can have one. I have done this all my life by necessity, no matter when I go to bed, I almost always have a slump time sometime in the day.
But this allows me to get up at 4:15 and go to bed at 10:30 most days, I could never do it without a nap between. I feel like I have a whole new day after 20 minutes, I very seldom go over even without an alarm, which I never use in the afternoon.
Can't wait to get the book, it's was on my list. Time to go shopping :0) (with restraint, one of my resolutions this year is to use what I have and add to my resources with care, but this really does look like a must have)
Have a Great Day!
Hey Lynn, great review and thanks for the props! 🙂 I'm thrilled it's working out—and I can't wait to hear more about what you've discovered.
I'm actually using, The Power of Full Engagement as the basis for huge change this year. Also, to be thorough in the props department, I got word of this from Eben Pagan (@ebenpagan) and I believe the concepts are a very important factor in his success.
As I'm sure you know, if you really want to embed new learning, it's good to use as many modalities as you can when absorbing new ideas and reinforcing new behaviors.
To that end, I've got both the physical book and the audio version and use them both at different times in different contexts so that I associate the new ideas with as many areas of my daily routine as I can. I also write out sections and concepts again and again and set times and dates to implement new behaviors.
And I agree completely, if you only picked one book to focus on this year, this would be your best bet. (And of course, T&GR is required listening/reading, but that almost goes without saying. 😉 )
All the best in 2009!
Thanks again for the recommendation, Zack - this book has had a dramatic and immediate impact on me from the day I opened it!
Phil - a classic? lol
Jan - My afternoon naps are my SAVE. Its my one time of the day to be totally selfish and do what I refer to as a "human reboot" *grin*. Like you, I feel like I end up getting 2 days out of every 1. I dont feel mentally drained from work, but instead when the kids come in from school I'm fresh and attentive and ready for dinner & homework with a smile 😉
