An SEO Glossary

September 20th, 2006 · No Comments ·

I was just checking out the SEO Glossary on Apogee Search, which includes information on over 200 different SEO terms.

For example, you can learn the difference between Rented Links and Permanent Links:

As opposed to permanent links, rented links are purchased on a monthly basis. The advantage of such links is that one generally receives absolute control over anchor text and deep linking.

The disadvantage, naturally, is that one must pay for them every month. And, due to Google’s requirement that links be aged, no benefit is received for months after their creation.

While surfing through all of the phrases in their Glossary, I came across a few that left out the detail - such as Big Daddy and Hilltop. Fortunately though, they give you an email address on each page to send in your comments and suggestions. I imagine user feedback will help this Glossary grow very nicely.

My only other thought is that this Glossary is obviously geared towards newbies and those wanting to learn the basics of SEO… yet the descriptions are worded in such a way that they are hard to read and understand. For example, when defining Bread Crumbs it starts out:

A website interface methodology generally used with large, hierarchical websites  Ack!

I might have said something more simple, like: A means of providing easy-to-use navigation at the top of a content page so that readers can click back to more general areas of the site on that topic. Ex: Main Page > Category Page > Specific Topic Page

It’s a cool resource to keep your eye on, nonetheless!

Disclosure: Apogee Search did NOT pay me to post a positive review. They did give me the opportunity to check out their SEO Glossary and choose whether I wanted to blog about it or not. If I chose to do so, and I did, they offered me $15 to include a live link in my review. All other live links besides the initial link to the Glossary were my own doing, in context and as a resource for my readers. Everything stated in this post is my own opinion, and was written in my own words. (Happy, A-Listers? :D )
