PLR Article Rewrite Dissected & Exposed

Last week I started a series on creating content during my free weekly webinar. I shared 5 ideas for different types of web content you can easily use on your websites and blogs. After the live webinar, I "repurposed" those tips into a blog post about web content here at ClickNewz.

Repurposing is a great way to easily create a lot of quality content. If you look through that post, linked above, you'll see that I took the 5 types of web content and expanded on each one with my own tips and examples.

Even more interesting is the original source of these tips - specifically the 5 types of content. So I'm going to share that source with you here, which was actually a PLR article that I purchased in a larger pack of PLR content, and show you the article rewrite in action...

PLR stands for Private Label Rights. You can buy it very cheap and then you have full rights to edit, alter, change the format, publish and claim authorship. It's a great starting point, and a great way to come up with new content ideas.

You can easily turn the content of a PLR article into a topic for a video or audio, a live webinar or teleseminar, a blog post, or use it to create articles for article marketing. You can even use the content for email newsletter ideas, or turn several related PLR articles into a short report.

For creative content-writing ideas, see:
How to Repurpose Your Content - Correctly
5 Types of Web Content That Readers Love

Let's start by taking a look at one of the PLR Articles that I recently purchased, and then we'll dissect the article rewrite that I did with that piece of content. Here is the original PLR article:

You'll find the article rewrite published here, in my web content blog post. I actually took the original "5 different kinds of blog posts" and turned it into "5 types of web content". Let's take a look at a couple of excerpts from that post:

As you can see in this example (above), I turned the "instructional blog post" into "how-to content". It's the same basic concept, but with a bit of a twist. By the way, I prefer the personal twist to the 'automated spin'.

In this next example (below), I turned the "inspection blog post" into "review content":

As you can see, if you look at my post, I kept the same 5 concepts, reordered them a bit, changed the article title and re-worded each of the 5 points. I also included examples from my own archives, which helps to interlink related content here on my blog - as well as serve the purpose of being a visual example.

- - - - - - - - - -

So I took one PLR article and used it as a topic idea for a live webinar. Then I published the tips in more detail on my blog. I continued on even further by creating a series on the topic of content development. Since I purchased 5 articles in this particular PLR pack on this one topic, it's very easy to do a simple series. You'll see now that there are already 4 posts - and I already have 3 more posts for the series in queue.

A series makes for great content because readers enjoy following a topical series, it gives you the opportunity to do some internal linking between related posts, and it can help you easily get that coveted double listing in the Google search results.

These posts also create content on my Facebook Page, in my Twitter stream, and of course my email notification list. So in addition to the webinar, that is 5 places that one PLR article inspired interesting new content. And that's just one article out of the dozens I received in this particular PLR pack purchase!

I hope this gives you some creative ideas for ways that you can use or repurpose PLR articles, or any content with Private Label Rights. To close, I'll give you a few of my favorite PLR sources:

***** DIY PLR by Alice Seba *****

  • Easy PLR by Nicole Dean. This is one of my favorites because she offers articles, reports and ecourses - and on a variety of topics, including: online business, online marketing, exercise, fitness, diet, frugal living, green living, pregnancy & parenting, homeschooling, home decor, holidays, video games etc.
  • Nicheology by Paul Evans & Mark Thompson. Not only do they have tons of PLR on a wide variety of topics, they also offer extensive info-publishing training to their members.
  • Need-an-Article is a great resource as well. You can have content written for practically any purpose, including: articles, press releases, blog posts, website content, etc. And you can have this content written for as little as $5. They even offer re-write services for your PLR articles.

Thanks so much lynn for this step by step. It helps out so much and opens a lot of jammed shut doors for me.
    Many Blessings,
    Dawnaurora

  2. You've improved much on the PLR article, Lynn. It frustrates me when writers try to be cute by using the same first letter for each concept (in this case "i") instead of just saying what they mean. Thanks for cleaning that up here. πŸ™‚

    • I often just use PLR content as the base for creative ideas, and then repurpose the heck out of it. Taking this one PLR article for example, you could write a 5-post series, or use it as part of a short report on blogging, or include it in an autoresponder series, etc - tons of content opportunities.

  3. Great Post! I can't wait to go over it again and glean more. A question. Do you think the new Google stuff that Andy, Leslie, and Dan talked about on the webinar will affect plr? I don't' think so as long as you don't just cut and paste, but I'm new to this stuff.

    • What new Google stuff are you referring to specifically? I must have missed that webinar...

As you can see, I don't just cut 'n paste πŸ™‚ Of course, there are a lot of formats where "duplicate content" is not even in question: video, audio & email for example.

      • The webinar was titled "Stupid Google Changes that can HURT You." Anyway, they were saying that Google is going to come down a little harder on duplicate content trying to weed out the cut and paste folks so that there are more legitimate sites and less, spammy sites. I think it's a good thing, but wondered about how much one has to rewrite plrs. I think I would do a complete rewrite, for the most part, anyway.

        • Ahh yeah - I don't do copy & paste and as you can see I turned my PLR article into unique content very easily.

Google makes changes that benefit their users, and as a means of keeping good clean relevant results. Bad for lazy online marketers that don't really want to put any effort into their work - and great for the rest of us. πŸ™‚

        • EG Online Marketing says

I have found a few times when I write blogs that a link to my blog will be a spammy site copying my content. As stated I am sure this is not going to help my site. I do not want links from these sites for they do not help. I think this could happen a lot and cause problems with Googles new algorithm changes.

          • Who you link TO definitely counts, but you can't control who links to YOU. That said, when trackbacks or pingbacks appear from spammy sites, or sites that are just full of useless duplicate content, I simply delete those as they are outgoing links.

  4. You're great Lynn! As a Jimmy D. - Paul Evans disciple (btw..because of your recommendations) I'm not going to be a lazy online marketer. It's amazing how I see - when researching to do a new article - I see the same article more than once without any changes at all.
Let me ask you a question...how long does it take you to redo an article. Maybe because I'm still new at this but it took me about 4 hours once I got it rewritten and all the affiliate links in. Does it get better with time? :-/

    • Yes, it does get better with time - absolutely. That said, I've spent that long on recent articles when they were important. Keep in mind that you write it once, and it's going to work for you forever. Not to mention how many ways you can repurpose it and expand the reach once it's written. So even if it does take you 4 articles, it's well worth the time invested.

But yes, again - it really does get easier with time and practice πŸ™‚

Your step-by-step approach was a great way of pointing out the versatility of PLR. It is the research behind the content that is the real gold for the end user. Another twist on using audio is to record it for list building - either as a digital download or free CD.

  6. Having used PLR stuff before I knew it was valuable but your example made the number of ways to use PLR really come to life. It does take some work but as Gail said, "the step-by-step approach" you gave makes the job much easier to accomplish. Thanks as always.

I absolutely loved this whole 'teaching unit' you did for us on PLR!! It was great to watch it all unfold, play by play. Teaching it in this fashion is definitely one of those 'Ideas That Sticks' that David Perdew was telling us about!

And too funny! I got behind on email so I'm just now seeing this, but I dissected the whole thing myself in my PLR group in the SSWT forum! On the same day you posted this! http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/members/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=125

    Great minds, right?

  8. Franck Silvestre says

Great, personally, I really love video plr. Since I am not really strong on video, it helps a lot.

    Thanks,
    Franck

  9. Jeffery Wood says

Thank you very much, the before and after was the most helpful thing about PLR that I've seen. So much better than just the generic "change it and make it your own".

    - Jeffery

    • I'm glad you found it helpful. The "change it and make it your own" advice is spot on, but hopefully this post that shows that in a visual example helps people add depth to that (accurate) advice. πŸ™‚

    Hi Lynn,

I like your blog and browse through it often.

I've put together an article entitled "PLR - Tips, Tactics and Techniques" in which I've featured one of your articles as recommended reading. Its already posted at my blog at http://homebusinessaire.com/blog/2009/10/plr-useful-tips-and-techniques/

If you look at the article you will see that it is a sort of "best of" collection of great PLR blog posts like yours. What I would like to do is get each one of us to post the article at our blogs. That way we all get exposure from each other's readers.

What do you think? Will you post the article to your site, maybe sometime this week?

Please do let me know. And thanks again for the great post!

    Best regards,
    Mario Schembri

    • That link doesn't work - you changed the URL? I did find it on your blog. Tip: make the links clickable so that you'll get trackbacks on each of the posts that you linked to as a resource. πŸ˜‰

  11. Hi Lynn,

This is a well thought out informative blog post.

May I suggest that you check out a new Article Rewriting tool called Article Boxer. It's Web 2.0 and introduces some nice innovations in the way articles are created and rewritten.

    cheers
    Tony

  12. Yes, PLR articles are great for rewriting, or at least for research. Yo can simply take basic points from each one and then 'repurpose' them as you have put it, and turn this new 'content' into a fresh article. All you sometimes need to do to get fresh ideas for writing is to look around.

  13. This is a great example of things you can do with PLR. I think the thing I like about using PLR most is that you have some ready-made ideas for topics. Sometimes, that's the biggest problem for me, is coming up with an idea of what to write about. PLR solves that!

  14. Hii Lynn

after reading your article,I learned a lot about the tecniques of writing articles. as well as get new ideas.
    thank u very much
