Sweet! Slickr Flickr WordPress Plugin

This week I'm sharing a brand new WordPress plug-in that create slide shows for your blog posts from the photos in your Flickr account. Here's a quick example of the plugin in action, from my trip to the Atlanta Motor Speedway last weekend:

Please specify a Flickr ID for this gallery

Details: Slickr Flickr Plugin

Download plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/slickr-flickr/

Note: you'll need to go to http://idgettr.com to get your Flickr ID to use in the settings of the plugin.

It's very easy to install and use. I had the example above set up in less than 8 minutes on the first try.

This is a great way to repurpose your Flickr photos.

Up until now I have used Animoto to create YouTube videos out of still photos. Obviously Animoto is still the best option for repurposing your photos into a video marketing campaign, but this opens up a whole new set of options.

You can display photos of course, or you could get creative. Consider using product images, cover graphics, explanatory text images and screenshots in a slide show within your blog posts. Especially on product reviews or demos!

You can use the Slickr Flickr plugin within blog posts, or in a sidebar widget. There are several options, and it's super easy to use.

Enjoy! πŸ˜‰

p.s. That was my first Nascar experience, and it was awesome! πŸ˜€

Nice shots of the speedway~ we missed the race on TV seems like there was some big wrecks. Bad Karl. Bad. Cool plugin too. πŸ™‚

  6. Lynn,

very cool! I hadn't found a really good use of flickr until I read this post!

Now I can have my VAs upload photos to flickr, and I can then make slideshows on my wordpress website!

  7. I'm not that familiar with Flickr, so does it pull from an album? or does it display all your photos?

  8. Hi Tom - the plugin works by you putting a short code into your blog post. You just have to tag all the photos you want in the slideshow with the same tag, then specify that tag in the short code. You can have more than one slideshow on a page, including the sidebars. Just get back to us if you have any problems.

  9. It sounds and looks cool! Hopefully my non techy self can figure it out. I had the same question as Tom about using just one album or does it take all your pictures.

I have only NAMS photos in my account right now so that would be cool to do a slide show with those.

  10. Looks like a great app. So is your trip to Atlanta Motor Speedway now a tax deduction?? πŸ™‚

  11. nice plugin, i like it a lot!

I'm looking forward to trying this Lynn. I have tried other Flickr plugins with limited success. I can't wait to try this one ~ thanks!

  13. I can see this being really helpful on product reviews instead of having to scroll down the page through all those pictures... or on a cooking or craft blog to show a set of pictures going through the different steps of the process. I usually mash mine all together using movie maker and then upload to youtube as video, but this displays a lot nicer than the usual youtube box.

    • Loretta, I love the idea for recipes. It would also be great for how to projects. Instead of before and after, share a slide show that shows the whole process.

  14. The result is really great! I am definitely going to use it. Thanks for sharing about this plugin. Nice pictures too.

  15. That does look like a great plugin! I like the ideas you shared for using it, making me think of all kinds of things! πŸ™‚

  16. Wow that's awesome, I like to put some pictures on my blog, but sometimes it takes lot of spaces on the post, this plugin will solve the problem. Thanks for sharing this information πŸ™‚

  17. Lord knows i'm NO techy, so (god bless) WordPress and WordPress plugins. Yay!

This one I plan to use on the sidebar of a blog, showcasing cool photos. What would be EVEN COOLER though is if it had the option to LINK out to a page or post. But sweet still and i'm off to download it.

    Cheers!

    Hi Lynn,

Glad to see you sharing the love for this new plugin. It is fantastic, the best flickr plugin I know. We are using it on our amateur photography club website, http://torontoshootersclub.ca - for both inline slideshows in blog posts and sidebar widget galleries! And, it can do more than that - I highly recommend it.

  19. Thanks Lynn this looks like a very useful plug-in.

  20. Linette Daniels- The Business Doctor says

Michael and I were just struggling to find a good plugin to show photos in a sliding format for my new site. He found one but I like your suggestion even better.

Thanks for always providing cutting edge information.

  21. Hi Lynne

As always thanks for the tips. I am just starting to use flickr more and more and this gives a great visual boost. Especially for my Staffy terrier charity site fab

    Thanks

    Denise

  22. Elizabeth Ashe says

Yes, Lynn I will have to use this immediately especially on my product reviews for niche site.

Thanks Lynn, Will let my followers know about this also.

  23. That's an awesome plugin. I'm going to use it on one of my travel sites. How fast does it load...

Wait a sec, I checked by loading this page in a different web browser. That's one fast acting plugin!

  24. Carpet Cleaning Lancaster says

Brilliant tip Lynn. As I was reading through the article I was coming up with ideas as to how I'm going to use this functionality.
I don't see it as a replacement for YouTube videos as they are given so much authority and good rankings from Google, but I do see it as an additional tool.

    Thank you,

    Ian
