How to Increase Blog Traffic – Fast!

Let me start by saying that this traffic strategy works no matter what kind of site you have - blog, sales page, affiliate site, squeeze page, you name it.

It's also particularly effective in a product launch, or when you're trying to promote any type of product or services online - your own, or as an affiliate.

It's Guest Blogging. Before you groan, hear me out. Because this is one of the simplest and most effective ways to get:

  • super targeted responsive visitors
  • sales pouring in
  • the highest quality inbound link available
  • higher (or top!) search engine rankings
  • huge growth to your traffic and/or readership numbers

And it's easy!

I've been blogging full time for more than 8 years. I can tell you firsthand that the biggest problem most bloggers face (myself included) is publishing quality, relevant content on a consistent basis. No matter what your publishing schedule, it can be a real challenge to blog regularly and keep your readers engaged.

You can capitalize on the struggle these blogger's are facing, to dramatically increase blog traffic - fast!

If you want to increase blog traffic, or web traffic to anything at all, guest blogging is quite simply the easiest and fastest way to do it. And it's highly effective. It's not just about getting traffic - guest blogging puts you in front of and established audience and responsive readers.

We're not talking about next month, or 6 months from now, like some methods of getting traffic. We're talking about a matter of days, or even hours. And it's something you can tap into ANYtime you want to increase your traffic!

As a blogger, I regularly publish guest blog posts - both here, and on my niche blogs. It's a huge relief for me when I am busy with other things in my online business, or simply having a spell of writer's block (yeah, it happens!).

I also use guest blogging to sell products, get inbound links, and achieve super-quick top rankings in Google. And let me explain the point I made about inbound links above, and why I said it's "the highest quality inbound link available".

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and most people freeze up the minute I mention it. But let me break it down for you in real simple terms...

You create a blog post or web page. You optimize it for a specific keyword phrase. You get inbound links to that page/post. It ranks well. People search for that phrase, click through and you have highly targeted traffic that was searching for exactly what you offer on that page. Period.

Proof

I have a page (here on ClickNewz) that ranks in the Top 10 for "super affiliate handbook review". That blog post has over 100 inbound links, many of which are guest posts or interview-style posts that link to my review. Feel free to research that one and see for yourself.

I also rank tops for things like "free online business" and "membernaire review", "creating a mobile website" and "how to create a mobile website", etc. I could go on and on.

The way you get top rankings like mine is to get quality inbound links to your pages or blog posts. Quality being the key word. Links are valued by several variables including: keywords used in the Anchor Text, relevance of the page linking to yours, link placement - or the location of your link on that page.

With guest blogging you have complete control over the anchor text, relevance and the location. You write a highly relevant blog post, get it published on a highly relevant blog, and link back to your page/post with very specific Anchor Text from within the content area of the page.

That last point is the key - a link from the content area of a page carries more weight than a link in the sidebar or footer, or one in dozens of links on a directory type page. Placement matters. You want inbound (contextual) links from the content area of a page.

Ready to increase blog traffic, get top search engine rankings, build lists & sell products? Of course you are!

So start guest blogging. Seriously. I do it (regularly!) and you should too.

It's more effective than article marketing. -gasp!

Right now while you're reading this, you're already forming objections in your mind. Maybe you're saying stuff like: I'm not a good writer. I don't know where to find blogs for this. I don't know how to approach bloggers with my guest post. I'm afraid they'll say no. I don't even know where to start...

If any of that ran through your mind, recognize it for what it is: stinkin' thinkin'.

If you can do article marketing, or you already have a blog yourself, you can and should guest blog. And if you're not doing either of those 2 things, then it's time to get started - you should do all 3!

If you're serious about marketing your site or product online, that is.

I'm going to make this easy for you. 😉

I use purely organic marketing strategies to get instant exposure/traffic AND long-term results, which I teach in my Niche Success Blueprint.

  1. Well, I think we have to hire guest posters for this guide to be effective. If one person will only do this guide then it will take a lot days to have a lot of good or quality links.

  2. I know your're right Lynn but sofar have not done it. Will need to put it on top of the web promotion list!

  3. I have reviewed guest commenting last few days and I have read from them the quality of doing it. But my concern is "will Google penalize you if you have so many guest posts in some forums and websites in just a short period of time?

    • I like to have a variety of content on my own blog - from guest posts to my posts to interviews to various formats (video, audio, text). And no, Google will not penalize you for having guest posts on your blog, or for guest posting on other blogs. There's nothing spammy about that to cause a penalty of any kind.

  4. Thank you Lynn. I will read it and use it. As you said I too tell myself that I am not good but now I will change that and move on.

Thank you. Lynn and nice knowing you

  5. I would like to say that the best way to increase the traffic to your blog is by writing the blog that should be on-trend for your niche 🙂

  6. Thanks for the Idea Lynn, this had not even entered my mind as a way to get traffic, I just need someone to write all the posts now as the constant writing is always the challenge for me personally.

  7. Are there any books about recruiting guest bloggers?

  8. Toby Russell says

Hi Lynn great post once again I really like your writing style and your content. Yep I read it and I got 'stinkn thinkn' but of course you are right, put those thoughts to one side & get on - I plan to

  9. Thanks for the quality resource, Lynn. I've wanted to start with this traffic strategy for a few months now, but was unsure of the best way to get started. The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is the mind maps and idea generation, which can always be a challenge!

    Best,
    Scott

  10. Very interesting article. Valuable info. Not the guest editing part, for me, anyway. But that the content gets link hits. That is super info and, since I'm a writer, not a problem for me. Thanks for practical info that doesn't add more marketing time to my schedule.

  11. Thank you for sharing with us that lovely post. I will start to begin to guest blog now as I need traffic on my blog. My blog is aout how life is viewed from the eye of a teen with a Buddhist background. Do you have any idea on how to get people attracted to my blog. Thanks in advance.
    From,
    Sean.

  12. Thank you for this idea. I've heard more and more about the guest blogging recently, as a source of traffic and links, so I'm researching it myself. I'm actually considering it from both directions: both guest blogging and using guest bloggers.

  13. This is a really good idea. I wish I'd chosen a better website name for my site, though, since I was trying to attract visitors more than impress other bloggers. Oh well, live and learn.

  14. Thanks Lynn. We recently started a blog to help promote our beautiful fresh cut peony flowers. We'll have to think about guest posting to increase our traffic.

  15. Nevada Howard says

@lorne You mentioned that you wish you had chose a better name. That is an easy fix. Just buy a new domain name and forward that domain name to your current domain. That way you can use the names interchangeably. When you guest post you can use your new name(whatever you pick)when its more beneficial for you to use your current domain name you can use that. As both names go to the same site. I hope this helps.

  16. Thanks. Very helpful. I have a lot of catching up to do - so this is a good start

  17. Sean Wang says

Wow! Thank you for sharing how to increase blog traffics. I would accept any form of guest bloggers on my blog. tenzinkhenchen.blogspot.com. I am attempting to raise funds for a homeless shelter through my blog by adsense.

  18. Steven B. says

Since I read this post about 2 weeks ago, I bought Chris Garrett's Guest Blogging course on account of your recommendation. It's fantastic.

I just wanted to return to this post and say I've put together a shortlist of blogs on which I wish to guest blog and have 4 posts in the works. I also successfully published my first 2 guest blog posts on a separate high PR and high traffic websites in my niche. It was simple to do. In fact the target blogs' owners liked my article ideas and made the process very easy.

Because I'm very familiar with my few niches, it's not hard to write high-quality, unique article that is written from a perspective target blogs' readers will appreciate. I did spend time reading many posts on my target blogs to get an idea about the type of content written.

My goal is to establish relationships with several high PR and high traffic blogs and publish repeatedly on those blogs.

I've notice that many high-traffic blogs do accept guest posts, and in fact many of these blogs seem to nearly exclusively publish guest posts becoming a magazine in a sense and the owner is simply the editor. This means there are many fantastic guest blogging opportunities.

I really appreciate this post about guest blogging. I've read about it before, but this post inspired me to do it (along with getting informed from Chris Garrett's guest blogging course).

    Hi Lynn,
I am tickled to have found your site! I am still new in online marketing, and am searching all the time for ways to increase traffic and build more backlinks. I really like the idea of guest posting, but never knew how to get started. I am going to go for Chris' book now.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Ruth M

  20. I've heard so many bloggers testify of massive traffic and branding via guest posting. I am just about starting off. Thanks for sharing your guest posting tips and I'll check out Chris' book.

  21. This tactic is something I have never considered to boost leads/sales thanks for the idea. Off to buy a copy of the report many thanks.

  22. I've been struggling to increase traffic to my site for the last few months. I've primarily been focusing on your standard SEO methods and on-page optimization techniques. Somehow, it had never occurred to me that I might be missing out on valuable traffic by not having a guest comment section on my site. After looking over some of the resources you've linked to in response to many of the comments posted here (thank you) I've decided that it'll be worth giving it a go. Wish me luck! 🙂 Thanks for all the good info.

  23. jerry dodson says

This is really a good idea on how to increase traffic on your blogs. To increase blog traffic, first must have a content worthy of reading, make use of search engine optimization and creating backlinks. Thanks for sharing your guest posting tips.

  24. Jan Dirk says

This is the best advise ever! Thanks I have been doing all this SEO, but I forgot about guest posting thanks so much 🙂

I want to recommend when you start guest posting maybe you should ad a sample of your article that you will post

  25. Real great blog. I have never had a guest blogger or been a guest blogger. It’s time to go to the next level and give this a try.
    Thanks again
    Sam

  26. That is interesting. Thanks for the advise. I have never been a guest blogger before, I guess I could give it a little try and see how well I can't capture my audience attention. 😀

  27. As a beginner its quite interesting for me to know the advantages & disadvantages of this.I wish to know more & more , what to do, what not to do while commenting in to others blogs or guest books..At times i fear of becoming a spammer..Kindly let me know ...Thanks

  28. Roger Gordon says

I have the greatest admiration for quality blogging. i just wish i had the patience myself

  29. Thank you, Lynn. A friend of mine needs just this, but i'm too busy to be the teacher this time. I'll just send her here, hopefully she'll learn something 🙂

  30. So, this is how to increase traffic. I guess Guest Blogging really suits best. I’ll be doing this the next time, that’s for sure. And, things now are making sense. I understand exactly how it works.

  31. I may never had it made effective yet, at least not yet; for instance, I made a couple of articles from Ezinearticles.com, still I'm not getting traffic from Ezine who directs to post or home page. Well, perhaps I should also optimize the permalinks of the articles I've written from Ezine.

Still I agree that guest blogging is effective in increasing traffic. Very nice blog and well written post. I like it. Cheers!:-)

  32. Can't help but agree, Lynn - guest blogging is indeed the fastest way to get a nice surge of targeted traffic back to your blog.

Of course, fastest doesn't mean easiest - requires top-notch quality posts. But then again, if we can't come up with those, then why are we in blogging to begin with, right?

    Ana

  33. A really great endeavor worth pursuing when trying to learn how to increase blog traffic is to use blog comments in order to attract a steady stream of people to your blog. When you leave strong comments in other blogs, it can play a large role in how to increase blog traffic because it adds something of value to the community. People who find and read the comments that you leave elsewhere on the internet will find reasons to come over and view your blog because they will be interested in whatever else you have to say.

  34. I've recently been contemplating whether or not I should start a blog and have found myself discourage because it seems like my precious time spent might be wasted upon the millions of others who have the same bright idea as me. After reading this, I am now considering it again and if I do this is a tool I would definitely want to utilize. Thanks!

  35. I just recently started a blog and am in need of traffic. Thanks for the great advice, I will apply your methods and hopefully they will work as well for me. Do you have any other tips for a beginner?

  36. I have to be honest, when I first read your article 3 or 4 weeks ago I was somewhat skeptical about the possibility of seeing any sort of real traffic increase. However, I decided to give your idea a chance. Over the course of the following month after installing a guest blog I was nothing short of astounded to see how quickly my traffic increased. In fact, it would be best described as having a snowball effect. It seemed as though each week the traffic was nearly double the previous week! Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the idea. I'm so glad I decided to give it a chance!

  37. Lynn,

This is a great idea and this post was very informative. I've really enjoyed reading your blog since I discovered it last week after Googling "niche market pen names." So glad to have found you!

I got the Guest Blogging ebook and honestly, it's nothing that someone couldn't find for free online with a bit of searching. There was nothing ground breaking in the ebook. I also find it extremely frustrating that the "extras" are delivered over the course of a week or two. Just give me what I paid for! I think the author should have stuck with $7 because I feel ripped off at $17!

  38. Thanks for the helpful tips! Blog writing is not as easy as people make it out to be... I appreciate experience from successful writers!

  39. Thanks for your info, appreciate that. Will start considering doing guest blogging, or invite someone to write for my post. 🙂

  40. Web Designer from London says

I cannot agree more and can share my experience on this matter. For the first 2 years of bloggin, I had discounted guest blogging mainly due to time constraints. It was difficult to keep up with writing for my own blog so guest posting on other blogs did not seem like a good idea at the time. However I could not have been more wrong. I have only started writing guest posts for some time now but the results have been amazing, not only in terms of traffic but also the overall ranking on search engines.

  41. This the best article I have ever read, very complete and reasonable. I'll try it. thanks

  42. Thanks Lynn,

I am definitely going to check out the e-book. I like the idea of having someone else help me out, and get some benefit for themselves into the bargain.

  43. Wow! I have't been blogging a whole lot due to time constraints, but it looks like the e-book may be a BIG help. I will check it out. Thanks for the helpful info.

  44. Hi Lynn thank you for the great information I have a blog finished it one month ago Im only getting 4 to 12 people per day visting my blog I written content on squiddoo, hubpages, twitter, and facebook.

I don't want to join to many article sites because it takes so much time in writing the same content again and finding what to write about.

    John

  45. Hi Lynn great info about guest blogging. Do you seek out people in your nich to guest blog or just someone that can do research and blog about that nich. A little confusing because it's been said that those with a passion about the subject matter will write more passionately than another who just is good at writing and puts up a vanilla, plr type post.

    Wally

  46. Hello Lynn !

I also think that guest blogging is a great way to increase traffic, but it can be a bit difficult when you have a brand new website...
Many bloggers will not allow guest blogging if the site is to "fresh" have I noticed.

  47. Wow! I have’t been blogging a whole lot due to time constraints, but it looks like the e-book may be a BIG help. I will check it out. Thanks for the helpful info

  48. Peter Lawlor says

I bought Chris Garrett's book on your recommendation. It's excellent and recommend it. Since then I've had guest posts published on ProBlogger, DailyBlogTips and this wonderful blog (thanks for the opportunity Lynn). The immediate traffic bumps were great and the long term SEO will be fantastic!!

Plus it's been fun meeting other bloggers, even if it's a few brief emails.

  49. HI Terry! You have my total attention...newbie here but not computer illiterate. Two questions, I know people do not all write their own eBooks so I for instance have a couple of eBooks I want to give out that I found great for me but how do I get them back in the form of an eBook with the picture icon like when I first downloaded it for my own use. Right now it just opens up as the book itself. Second,I didn't quite understand what you were saying in the above post about "Guest Blogging". The part of the post that starts right after the paragraph that ends with " I could go on and on". I don't know what you mean about anchor text and linking back etc. It just confused me. If you could direct me to a place here that explains this a little simpler I would be indebted. Thanks Deb
