Hi, I also found your site after a google search. My dog tipped it off my table and it shattered. I did have it in it’s protective (restrictive to use) case! I am sickened by this. What is extra annoying…when I purchased the case the sales guy at Best Buy told me that he has been so happy with his ipad (1st gen) and then proceeded to show me how durable it was by dropping it on the floor! The 1st gen ipads had a durable case that was “indestructable”. This one- not so much.

I was just Googling this exact problem and found your article. I was trying to put my on the counter but didn’t quite have it high enough, hit the edge of the counter, it fell and the screen shattered. I sent it to Apple, prepared to pay $349 to have it fixed, which is less than buying a new one, and Apple says it is unfixable and sent it back. It still turns on, you can do anything on it (albeit with a couple of glass shards that may lodge in your finger) so the casing just needs replacing. How is it that Apple can’t just replace the case? I just don’t even believe that.

That helps a LOT… My PC’s hard drive just went out…AGAIN.. So I am trying to decide what do to. I hear Mac has a cool program that will let me run PC programs as well.

I think I am going to go with an iMac, iPad, my Droid and a spare pc laptop.. That should get the job done!

Hey Paul,

I still have multiple PC’s running in the house – 7 total I think. I also have the Macbook Pro and the iPad (and soon an iPod Touch – I won it). I use my primary PC daily in the home office still. The Macbook Pro is specifically for video editing, because HD video was difficult to edit on my PC and I was annoyed trying to find software/hardware solutions. I also use the Macbook Pro as my primary laptop if I need to go mobile as well – it’s an awesome machine. The iPad is even more mobile and I also use a Motorola Droid – which I’ve been doing the majority of my business maintenance from lately.

I’m overrun with gadgets, electronics & connection options at the moment to be honest – and still working out the best use for each and the best system for everything. But I love each and every one of my devices for it’s own reasons… and no, don’t plan to dump my PC’s just yet – or anytime soon.

The Macbook Pro I use for video editing, and am setting up my podcasting there too. (I just bought a new camcorder too, btw)

The iPad I use for games, Netflix movies, email, reading (Kindle & Bible apps), social media & mobile blogging/research/web-based work.

The HP netbook w/3G I use for when I need more computer than the Droid in places with no wi-fi (blogging down by the river, working on biz trips, etc).

The Droid I use for tons of mobile work anywhere and everywhere around the clock – approving blog comments, taking & sharing photos via social media, social media updates, reading news & blogs on the go, responding to tweets, checking on auctions, you name it.

The PC I use to run windows software I’ve used for years – Outlook, Quickbooks, Dreamweaver, Excel, etc. It has a dual monitor setup (which I am about to set up for my Macbook as well) which is great for running webinars, doing extensive research & writing projects, etc.

A device for every task I guess.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your ipad Lynn! I ordered mine a week ago and still waiting for it to be shipped. (Hurry!)

So here is my question for you. Since you have a Mac Book Pro and an iPad, do you do all your business on a Mac now, or are you still bouncing back to a PC?

Also, did you hear about the Droid Tablet that is supposed to be coming out?

Square Trade – http://www.squaretrade.com does accident insurance in most states and is very reliable – they just paid out the full cost for my daughter’s laptop.

I believe Lynn mentioned earlier in her comments that she used her business “debit card” NOT a regular credit card. As I understand things, debit cards, even the visa/mc debit cards, DON’T cover that like many credit cards do.

It’s really unfortunate that you dropped it, but live and learn I guess. I do know that on some credit cards, like American Express, you get a warranty from the card issuer regardless of the warranty on the product itself. So with an AMEX card you get like 60 or 90 days including damage you cause yourself. So maybe it’s still worth looking into. Otherwise, it’s probably a good idea to get Apple Care in case this happens again. I’d be pretty sad if this happened to me.

The warranty, nor the extended coverage you can purchase as an option, cover anything other than product defects. You’ll need a third party insurance policy if you want to protect your investment.

You might check with your credit card company.

The card I have insures the purchases. Here is the statement from their website “Provides coverage for most items you purchase with your eligible MasterCard card if the item is damaged or stolen within 90 days of the date of purchase.”

This sounds like damage to me!!
