[...] Over the past month I have tested both Adbrite and Text Link Ads. Both of these companies are Advertising Brokers, selling text links or ad spots on your websites on your behalf, and sharing the revenue with you (the site owner).
Nice - they fit in very well with your site. I have an account with TLA, so I will have to look into the differences between them and AdBrite.

Lynn, I've had Text Link ads on 2 of my sites for a couple of months, and it was very easy for me to get them up. I approve the ads myself, to make sure I don't get something I don't like.

You can see an example here: http://www.babys-first-year.com/all-about-babies/ (it's at the bottom of my navigation).

Oh, sorry! I meant to answer that as well.

I contacted Google about a year ago and got an actual email from them saying it's okay because AdSense's network ads are not context-sensitive: they are category based. Anything category based is okay, according to the email I received.

I was using it side by side with AdSense when I actually got my first AdSense check (I believe they examine your sites for compliance before issuing checks).

Thank you, Sapphire - I appreciate your feedback! I am still curious if you can run them on the same page with Adsense... I'm assuming you can run sponsored ads but perhaps not 'network ads' - I'm not sure.

I wonder that it might be more profitable to sell Text Links or ad spots outright... except that I would prefer not to manage it myself (outside of manually approving/denying ads & advertisers).

Lynn,

I've been using AdBrite for about a year on several blogs. I've always been very pleased with the amount it brings in, for the amount of traffic I have (still rather low, I'm afraid). Currently, all of BlueMushrooms' ad slots are sold to "recurring" customers, and the amount I get slowly creeps up every month (I allow AdBrite to set my prices).

They're by far my favorite ad network. Even a small blog can get a check every month, and even with my mediocre traffic, I earn enough to pay my online expenditures every month - which is great for someone just getting her online business started.
