Most Popular Online Videos

October 9th, 2006 · 2 Comments ·

Video publishing, video marketing and vlogging (video blogging) have become more and more popular… and finally, someone has come up with a way to bring us a constantly-updating current list of the most popular (ie most viral) online videos!

Viral Video Chart

VVC is currently tracking Google Video, YouTube and MySpace every day to determine which are the most talked about videos - the videos worth checking out - and then posting them in order according to the number of times they have been linked to or blogged about.

How do we decide what makes it into the chart?

We scan several million blogs a day to see which online videos people are talking about the most. We count the number of times each video is linked to and the number of times each video is embedded. Every morning, after we’ve had a cup of coffee, we publish a list of the 25 videos that generated the most buzz over the previous day. We reckon this is a pretty good yardstick of what’s hot and what’s not.

At the moment we only look for references to videos on the three most influential video sharing sites: YouTube, Google Video and MySpace. We tried looking for references to videos on some other sites for a while, but nothing ever made the top 25 so we stopped.

We also considered wiretapping your email and IM to see what you were talking about, but figured it was illegal ;)

This is a cool site to check out even just for a little amusement or entertainment, but especially if you use videos on your own sites or blogs! www.ViralVideoChart.com

p.s. I was given the opportunity to blog about this cool new website as a paid post through PayPerPost.com, but I didnt choose to take that Opp. Of course, I still felt like the site was cool enough to blog about once I checked it out ;-)

Thanks for the mention. PayPerPost is an interesting idea. We’re a bit uncomfortable paying people to post about us, but we like trying new things so stuck $20 on it just to experiment. I’m glad you wrote about us anyway!! How come you didn’t take that ‘opp’?

Dont let the controversy about PPP leave a strange taste in your mouth - there’s nothing new about paid advertising! Besides, I have a feeling the controversy is just ‘marketing strategy’ :P

I didnt take that Opp because I can only choose 3/day as paid opps… and while I was considering this one, the opp expired. I blogged about your site anyway because I thought it was cool and thought my readers would enjoy it as well.

That’s the beauty of PayPerPost! I always check in and check out whats new, and have found some super cool sites & deals that I wouldnt have run across otherwise.
