Value of Text Links

After experiencing no results with AdBrite in the first 10 days, I have decided to give Text Link Ads a fair run to see how that pans out.

I’ve never sold advertising on any of my websites before, as I always filled any spaces with my own promotions – be it affiliate marketing, google adsense, or links to certain areas of my own sites. I’ve had offers of course, but having to manage all of this manually is not very appealing – especially when Affiliate Programs tend to convert rather well with good placement.

However, I thought I would give it a shot to see if it is a good additional source of income for my websites… or not. Of course, my first question was – How much are text links worth on my sites?

I have to admit, I like the interface at TLA much better than at AdBrite. Especially the handy dandy Link Calculator that they offer. They give you an image that looks very much like the Adsense Heat Map, and let you choose where you are going to place text links on your pages:

Where you place the Text Links on your website affects the value of those links. Using the image map (shown above) you can see which areas of your site will bring the best price for text links.

If you want to try it out, just go to Text Link Ads and click the Make Money tab, then choose Link Calculator from the drop-down menu. From there you can put in a few details about your website, select the placement for the text ads, and TLA will give you an estimate on the value of links on your pages.

Pretty cool, don’t ya think?!

I’m going to go ahead and set this up on several of my sites to see just how accurate the Link Calculator is, and find out how well Text Link Ads sell on some of the websites I have in various niches. I have a feeling they will sell best on business & Internet Marketing related sites ;-)

I thought it might be interesting to compare the profit potential between the two, and I liked the idea of having a bit more editorial control over ads that are displayed. The three I have tested to date are Text Link Ads, AdBrite and Performancing. [...]
