I have a friend who is an invention machine, and I recently helped him to take steps towards getting patents for his inventions. We did hours of research on do-it-yourself patent software programs, and finally settled on PatentEase which was around $300. Of course there are still filing fee’s and such, but this is still a much cheaper route than hiring someone to research & submit your patent for you.

Going through the entire process was quite interesting. I had always wondered exactly how all of that worked, so it was nice to get an inside peek at what all was involved. It’s quite lengthy and detailed, as you would imagine.
