The Growing Google

A little geek humor for you… though not everyone finds this topic funny. My mother, who is my connection to what it’s like on “the other side”, uses WebTV – which, for whatever reason, isnt compatible with anything ‘Google’.

Her insights are invaluable to me as an Internet Marketer, especially when we talk about things like formatting, searching and online shopping… and more recently “the Google takeover”. She tells me that most of our blogs have odd characters throughout the text, that MSN Search is cluttered with blog conversations to wade through when she does product searches these days, and that nothing ‘Google’ shows up on her end at all.

The more Google takes over online, the less access she has to the content. She’s quite content with her setup through WebTV, not so happy with news of each new buy-out. I worry that once she sees this:

… she’ll think twice about making any travel plans.

I wouldnt blame her. For her generation, I imagine the constantly changing technology is quite frustrating. She got in on WebTV when it was the thing for casual users to get in on. With their support now fading out (changing to new systems), they are leaving a lot of users in limbo.
