Off Topic: My Crazy Weekend

October 30th, 2006 · 13 Comments ·

Do you see this mug-shot looking photo of me to the right? That’s the look I gave the lady at the hair salon over the weekend…

I went in for a simple trim, as usual. One wrong snip, and I lost over 8 inches of my mane! The strange thing about it was that she completely ignored the mishap, and I ended up having to get another hairdresser to fix it.

I was floored! I’m not partial to my hair by any means, and didnt really mind the idea of a whole new look. But she seemed completely unable to admit the mistake and work with me on a solution!

She refused to sign me in for another appointment, and gave me an “are you stupid?” look when I suggested we just bob it off. You have to understand - she sent me home with the left side of my hair cut completely off, with the rest of it trailing halfway down my back.

The manager was kind enough to give me a new cut, thank goodness. She offered to do it free after seeing what had happened, but I gladly paid her for her work. It wasnt about the money to me at all… I just couldnt believe how incredibly rude this lady was. Shocking really, especially considering she has done my hair several times before without a problem.

Personally, I would prefer to fix anything I had done that someone was unhappy about, and maintain a good reputation for my work. I just cant imagine why she would deny the situation altogether and treat me so strangely about it. Go figure!

Anyway, here is what I ended up with, all said and done:

Not so bad I guess - just takes some getting used to!

Looking a bit OFF COULOUR.. ;)

I showed my wife this entry - I’m glad this was you and not her because I’d probably be looking for a lawyer to defend after that episode… ;) She definitely would have freaked - she gets upset if the color is the wrong shade (sadly, it always looks the same to me whether she goes to the salon or not…)

As an aside, I don’t watch TV that much, but my wife and I always watch Cesar Milan (Dog Whisperer) and “What Not To Wear” on Friday nights. I’m always amazed that about 75% of the women cry before the hair wizard guy (Nick, I think?) makes them look amazing.

I’m always thinking, why are you crying *before* the haircut? It looks like crap - it can only get better from here. It’s ratty, it’s three different colors and looks like you just woke up on it. Regardless, the tears still flow like nobody’s business even though a top NY stylist is about to work his magic. Very strange. Just like that different shoe for different outfit thing y’all do… ;)

I dont think I’d ever CRY over my hair - and certainly wouldnt consider sueing. I would have liked an apology and a cut though ;) LOL

Thank goodness I got it “fixed” - my hair will always grow back out…

I probably would have cried and then sued. Not because I’m flaky like that (normally, I love experimenting with my hair), but because my hair is very high maintenance and took quite a while to grow it out.

And on top of it, she was rude? I’m glad to hear the manager was able to fix it. Maybe she was just having a long, bad day or something.

Looks nice, though…maybe it was a little nudge from above to try something new. :)

I’d have been so ticked off. I have bawled after a hair cut before and I’m not all that vain as a norm. It was just so outrageously short that I couldn’t help myself.

Your do looks great by the way :)

Thanks Kelly & Teli - you really know how to cheer a girl up ;)

When I was 18 I DID get a haircut that made me cry. It was so bad, I ended up having to get a second cut and went from hair that went down my back to a very short do that was above my ears on the sides. Ouch! Actually, after a while I got used to it and it was kind of cute, but the cut that got me to that stage …! Don’t even want to think about it anymore :)

Your cut looks fabulous, Lynn. Glad it turned out well after all. But it sounds like you’re going to have to look for a new stylist!

Hair is hair and it will always grow back, and it looks AWESOME on you, but I totally know what you mean by her just disregarding your feelings when you were unpleased with the results.

I understand what you’re saying. I had a hairdresser who chopped my hair up in the back and blamed the colors I had in it. Brother. The thing is, the only thing I had done to my hair was lighten it with Sun-In. The other colors were all natural.

When I went back to get it fixed she was there. That’s when I heard her lame excuses.

She got fired a month later. I guess she messed up someone else’s hair afterwards.

I thought her excuses were pretty funny, but I’m glad they didn’t let her stay.

I agree. An apology would have been very nice. And she would have gotten my respect for admitting that she messed my hair. This was even more important to me than how she cut it.

Ohhhh… glad it wasn’t me! My hair goes all the way down my back. I very rarely let a professional near it, trimming dead ends at home because so few stylists understand long hair. They’d rather shape it, etc. than neaten up the ends.

I watch What Not to Wear too and it always drives me nuts when they insist long hair is trying to look young, trying to hide behind your hair, etc. Watching Nick push long hair in front of the face to show how you hide behind it makes me laugh because really long hair doesn’t do that very often on its own.

My hair disasters are usually my own doing…like 3 years ago when I tried to highlight my own hair, and it ended up about 5 shades of orange. That’s how I found my current hair stylist/colorist… and she’s amazing. Hey if she could turn that disaster around she could do anything!

Your new style looks really smart!

Thank you :) I hate to say it, but I’m glad to know I’m not the only one that’s ever had this experience!

    You guys rock ;)

I think it looks great. I have very long hair so if someone was to just take a HUGE chunk off without caring, I would be MAD. Luckily hair grows back :)
