Last night I had a little “oops” with my forum mailer. Actually, it worked perfectly - which is what I wasnt expecting! For several months now the mass email feature just hasnt worked. I use it to email all of the members of my discussion forum to let them know of the newest or coolest topics…

I actually put these emails together manually - meaning I comb the forum for the latest discussions I think would be of general interest to the members, and then paste them each in to the email with a nice little message at the top. It might seem like a lot of work to do once a week… but that site/forum is my personal project.

Anyway, every time that I would test the forum’s mailing script again, I would go through the process of putting together one of these messages. A bit time consuming for an email that would just never go through. I pulled my hair out trying to fix it - and had no luck.

So last night I was in the mood to give it another shot… and then figure out what the problem was - whatever that took. But instead of going through the whole process of putting together “the update”… I just popped in a goofy little message, knowing it wouldnt go out anyway (but wanting to see the error message again).

Guess what? The script worked

So yeah - three thousand-something people saw my screw up

You would not believe the number of replies I received in my inbox! Most of them were very nice, and I responded to each one personally (or, er, I’m actually STILL working on that lol). But some of them were funny. Here are a few examples of the replies I received last night:

I just spent 5 days trying to get my bulk mailer to work, I blamed
everyone from my ISP to Thunderbird.

Turns out I had a corrupted email addy in my list… it was my fault,
and I’m not even blonde… or female.

{looks in the mirror} Hmm - that might’ve been a dig, LOL

At least nobody got terribly irritated with me… and hey - somebody out there loves me! haha You guys are great
