This too shall pass…

Famous words. I had to take a deep breath this evening and remind myself of that. That “this too shall pass” always holds true…

I’ve been playing catch-up with some of my work today after being sick most of this past week. I’ve been taking Nyquil + daytime meds since last Thursday, and focus has been pretty much non-existant. While I seem to be over the hump with the virus, I’m guzzling water and Gatorade to rehydrate and regain my strength. You know how it is – blah. That’s about the only word that describes it :P .

I’ve had a hit of anxiety here and there about getting a few things done, not being productive, that sort of thing. I’m generally a go-go-go type of person, so I dont enjoy all of this “taking it easy” and getting behind. Not a single bit.

Email stacks up, blog & forum spam crowd my screen space, the little tasks pile up to an entire days work, etc etc etc. Of course in the midst of it all is the housework, the kids’ school schedule, their social schedule, yardwork that needs to be done, meals that have to go on the table… and well, “life”.

I’m feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. :|

Ahhh – it happens to everyone from time to time. As I was pushing myself to get a few things off the plate this evening, I finally just stopped and sat down to write this – which helped tremendously. I’m one person. It’ll all get done as soon as humanly possible. A week from now I’ll be back to my regular schedule and these thoughts will be far behind me. Right?

*cheers* ;-)

    Lynn,

You need to stop doing everything by yourself! No wonder you got sick. You need an assistant!

My thoughts exactly. Delegate :-) Stress will make you sick, and tasks like clearing up spam can be handled by some other mom who needs a bit of extra cash.
Now to take my own advice…

I’ve actually been actively looking for another assistant, but would prefer to have someone on-site again. That has always worked out well for me. Of course, ‘delegating’ is on the task list ;)

I’m feeling better this morning, so I expect today will be a productive one. I’m not usually the type to get stressed over little things, but I think that goes hand-in-hand with being sick.

A good nights sleep and a productive day will make all the difference!

    Best,

As much as you’re a go-go-go type of person, Lynn, you do need to take it easy sometimes. :)

You do a lot of good for a lot of people, but you’ve said it yourself – you’re only one person.

Glad to hear you’re feeling better, though. Get as much as you can done, and no one will be mad at ya.

  5. Lynn,

I totally understand how you feel. I sometimes feel the exact same way of being overwhelmed with the amount of ideas I want to put into action, or just the number of small tasks I need to do – like answering emails and forum posts.

The best solution that always works for me is to calm down myself a little bit, sit down, and write a step by step plan on how to do all those things… one by one.

Then when my mind feels at ease that I know exactly “what” I need to do and “how” I want to do it, I get started and quickly move toward finishing my list.

What a great feeling it is to complete and cross out the items one by one!

    Mark Twain says it best…

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”

Have a productive yet peaceful day, :)
