Diverse Interests & Multiple Projects
In my ‘net rounds this morning, I ended up on Free the Drones. They have a discussion forum on personal finance, career issues, savings, retirement plans, etc… but I was mainly reading through recent blog entries.
Of particular interest (to me, anyway) was the post regarding diverse interests and how they relate to achieving success. You would think that laser-like focus and less distraction would be more apt to get you closer to success… apparently, that’s not the case.
“There’s a long-running debate about how to succeed in life that this has implications for – the metaphor of the hedgehog, who knows one big thing, versus the fox, who knows many little things. I’ve always sided with the fox, but there are people who are ardent hedgehogs. The fox theory is the same as above – learn a lot about many things, and you have a lot to draw on when you run into new problems…”
According to the article, having multiple projects or a diverse set of interests actually stimulates brain growth – ie physical changes to the structure of the brain.
So see… multi-tasking and nearing info-overload is not such a bad thing
