Working With Dual Monitors

I am kicking this week off at my new desk, running dual monitors. I have to admit... it's sweet 😉 . To give you a quick update on that, I ended up buying a crow bar and borrowing a husband to get the desk out of the crate it was shipped in - and then my son put it together for me. No easy task as it came with no instructions whatsoever, but gosh he's a smart kid!

Setting up the dual monitors was easier than I expected. Basically all I had to do was disable the on-board video, install the new video card, hook up both monitors and walk through a simple installation & configuration.

I am in the process of backing up files from the laptop and burning them to CDs, so that I can set up those programs to display on the second monitor. I had been running them on the laptop, which sat next to my CRT monitor for the past year, simply because all of the programs I use in my daily tasks were overwhelming when they all overlapped on one 17" screen.

I started out with the monitors sitting side by side - sort of a 'panoramic view of the web' if you will. I quickly decided that was simply overwhelming, and moved the secondary monitor up and to the left (on a stand). I havent yet managed to get a picture that doesnt have a terrible glare, but I'll work on adding one later today.

I can already see that this is going to make my life much easier, and increase productivity dramatically. Having things exactly where you need them, easily accessible and set up for extreme efficiency, is a major plus in any workspace. Sitting in front of it now, its as perfect a solution for me as I envisioned.

I would venture to guess that once you go dual, you'll never go back. In fact, the only place to go from here would be additional monitors. No rush on that, of course 😉 .

  1. Wow, that's very cool Lynn! They've been talking about this a bit over at Mom Masterminds and one MMer says she has three screens going. Can't wait to see the picture to get an idea of what it looks like 🙂

  2. Jerry Shown says

Shoot! I can barely keep up with one monitor, much less two or three. My computer would be able to handle such a setup, but this poor old mind wouldn't!!!

  3. This being day three, I am finally used to the set-up and very impressed with how smooth everything runs! I have never done well at keeping up with the million things running at once on my 17" screen, so the two 19" widescreens really makes a difference.

Everything is at hand - email, calendar, task list, work screens, research windows, you name it. I feel more on top of things than I have ever been 😀
