PPP Goes Full Disclosure

The official announcement and press release are to be announced tomorrow – Monday Dec 17th – but TechCrunch has leaked the news early on PayPerPost’s new disclosure policy.

According to the leaked Press Release, PayPerPost has new Terms of Service, effective immediately, that requires their bloggers to fully disclose site wide with a prominent Disclosure Policy or on a per-post basis.

PayPerPost is the leading blog advertising network, paying bloggers to include reviews or text links within content for their pool of advertisers. Up to this point there has been much debate on the transparency of those sponsored blog posts, and whether it was ethical to include paid content without disclosing the relationship with the advertiser.

Personally, I like the idea of displaying a custom disclosure policy, and also including a disclosure comment within individual posts. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on required disclosure – whether you are a reader or a blogger…
