Finding Local Bloggers

I was checking out Grokidile this morning, which is a local blog directory, and I really love the concept!

I was actually surprised to find McMinnville, TN in the listings, which is where I live – because its such a middle-of-nowhere small town. But not only was it in the directory, it already had a few listings!

Interested in checking out other local bloggers, I clicked through. It turns out that besides the Wikipedia listing for my local area, the other couple of entries were just affiliate or sponsored links. Not really local bloggers. Of course, the site is new, so I expect it will be fun to check back each month and see who shows up there. And of course, I imagine those in larger or metro areas will have more luck networking with local bloggers.

It’s free to submit your blog to the directory – just select your location and fill out the quick form. Your blog will show up immediately. And if you verify your email address (click the confirmation link in a follow-up email), your listing will get a ranking bonus (show up higher in the listings).

If you link to your local community page, you will get even more ranking points. This could be a great way to help grow the directory, and encourage other locals to submit their blogs as well.

Right after I submitted my own blog (ClickNewz.com), I noticed that it was listed in the “Top Tennessee Sites” in the right sidebar of the website. Nice! You can see a screenshot at the top right of this post.
