The Latest in Link-Building

There has been a lot of talk lately about the various opportunities for bloggers to earn money by posting text links or reviews through blog advertising networks. One of the more popular networks is PayPerPost, but there are new companies launching all the time. (See 9 Get Paid to Blog Companies)

This is a hot topic right now - up for debate in regards to disclosure and “word of mouth advertising” - and of great interest to freelance bloggers as a means of earning a full-time income doing something they love.

There’s no doubt these are great opportunities for Bloggers, but let’s look at the flip side, and how it benefits the Advertisers…

One of the most obvious benefits to Advertisers who use blog advertising networks, is that they can easily build buzz about their website or product throughout the blogosphere. There are multiple ways to gain exposure online, but there is nothing better than to get people talking about you.

Up until now, the only other way to blanket a niche with conversations and reviews about your site or product, was to offer an affiliate program. The better the incentive (or payout) the more people would mention your link in discussion forums, recommend it to friends and peers, or take the time to write reviews or blog about it.

From a merchant or advertisers perspective, using blog advertising networks is a positive alternative - or I should say, a great addition to the overall marketing strategy. Consider these points for comparison:

Affiliate Program vs Blog Advertising

  • With an affiliate program, merchants pay for every sale or lead generated. With blog advertising, you only pay once for the link or review.
  • With Blog Advertising, you are working with people who already have an established site/blog, as well as a growing reputation and readership. Their opinion (and your link) carries more weight than when someone drops an affiliate link in a forum post.
  • While affiliate links will bring new visitors to your site, direct links to your site will do the same and also count towards your overall Link Popularity and Link Reputation…

Blog Advertising is relatively inexpensive for advertisers when you consider the return on investment. Consider too that it is a good way to find new affiliates. Those that generate good buzz or send substantial amounts of quality traffic, would be worth contacting in regards to the affiliate program.

There are even more benefits to purchasing Sponsored Reviews, of course. In fact, I would go so far as to call it the latest in link building techniques.

One of the companies that I have recently signed on with, in addition to PayPerPost and ReviewMe, is SponsoredReviews.com. In a recent blog post, they discussed the benefits of purchasing reviews in regards to building quality inbound links:

10 Reasons Why Sponsored Reviews are Great for Link Building

They make excellent points here, including the fact that unique reviews add valuable content to the web. Bloggers are required to post a unique write-up containing their thoughts and opinions, which generates buzz and conversation throughout the blogosphere.

The more high-profile or ‘niched’ the blogger is, the better the results. And with most blog advertising networks, you can set requirements and be particular about what type of blogger and what type of exposure you get in exchange for your one-time investment.

A quick run-down of the 10 benefits to using blog advertising networks (or sponsored reviews) in your link building campaign include:

1. Links located on sidebars or footers do not have the same weight as links embedded in content.

2. Links on Relevant Pages/Sites carry more weight.

3. No duplicate content issues. Every review you purchase is going to have great link value.

4. Blog posts are generally permanent, and so are the links on them. You get more value for your dollar than purchasing text links by the month or year.

5. The power of Social Networking within the blogosphere means you may receive even more links and exposure than you pay for directly.

6. You have full control over where your links are placed, the “page environment” where they are placed, and the anchor text that is used.

7. Its an EASY way to build quality links, while other link building methods are ‘dying’ or becoming labor intensive.

8. The unique content that is generated adds value to the web.

9. Blog advertising is incredibly affordable in comparison to buying text links or using pay-per-click.

10. It is currently one of the top ways to create a buzz or get a viral marketing campaign started!

As I mentioned, one of the newer companies that I have signed on with is SponsoredReviews.com.
