Job Search Engine: JobVolume

I had an opportunity to review JobVolume.com today, and decided to give it a whirl. It sounded interesting with features like WAP interface, blogroll tools, and RSS feeds…

I checked it out, clicked around a bit, and took a look at their Entry Level Jobs. My first impression was “too much adsense!” as I felt that it really made the individual pages difficult to read. The ad blocks blend in with the content area so that you have the same color text and links across the entire page. That aside, I decided to look into usability and actual content, as those will trump bad design on almost any site.

My next click was Internet Jobs, specifically to see if they listed work-at-home career opportunities or even part-time jobs. Each of the listings in that category opened in a new window, taking me to various career/job sites… and the first few that I clicked on had nothing to do with the internet. One was for an on-site position at a hotel, for example.

The site’s concept is great, but the interactive features and subscription options are only useful if the content is on target with what job searchers would be looking for…

I looked at JobVolume today and I was amused to see that the jobs from the Workopolis website include the “boss panic button” text. I guess they just grab it all from the page.
