I was browsing the N2growth Blog this afternoon, which has business advice for both executives and entreprenerus. N2Growth is written by Mike Myatt. There are some noteworthy posts there that I wanted to share with you:
Success As A Risk Factor
“As strange as it may sound success can often times be the precursor to failure. Success without perspective, purpose and focus can actually cause more harm than good. In today’s post I’ll discuss how CEOs and entrepreneurs can either leverage success, or if they’re not careful have it serve as their downfall…”
Mike made some interesting points in this article, particularly about planning “beyond success”. There were also some very thought-provoking questions throughout the piece… it’s one of those that will have you thinking past your current long-term plans!
Another article that grabbed my attention at N2Growth was:
So, You Want To Be An Entrepreneur?
“The reasons noted above are certainly good reasons, and, perhaps in an idealistic fashion, the right reasons to go into business. However while keeping these enthusiastic ideals in mind it is perhaps even more beneficial to examine the other side of what happens to many who embark upon the path of entrepreneurship…”
Mike hits the nail on the head when he talks about business owners “buying themselves a job” and ending up even more overworked and underpaid than they were before they left their traditional job. I especially liked this snippet:
I don’t care what your gross sales are…It doesn’t matter to me that you product has the most competitive price…I’m not interested in how many times you turn your inventory or that you’re expanding your operations or adding headcount. None of these things matter if your company is not profitable, or if your company is profitable but you have no life…
There are more great articles at N2Growth as well. You may have to pick and choose as some are specifically for entrepreneurs and others are for corporates… but they make excellent reading, and bring up some great points for consideration.
Enjoy!
