The Work Is Never Done…

There’s no lack of work to do with an online business. You may start your day fresh, with a clean slate, but before you know it you have been working half the day and your task list just keeps growing by the hour.

I get to work each morning (ie wake up, make coffee, take the short commute to my home office)… and start by checking my email. It gives me an opportunity to scan over notifications for sales, blog comments, opportunities, support issues that need my attention, etc. I find it to be a good starting point.

That said, you can easily get sidetracked with emails. Sales notifications lead to checking stats. Stats lead to analyzing landing pages. Analyzing leads to tweaking. Satisfied with that, and many minutes gone from the clock already, you go back to the inbox. Comments need to be moderated and/or responded to. Some of these discussions can spark an idea, and lead to a whole new blog post – so you’re off to blogging. Once published and back to the Inbox, potential opportunities need to be researched and reviewed…

Before you know it most of the day has flown by and you havent written that new article or worked on that new website yet. It’s a good thing your boss is not looking over your shoulder ;)

Seriously, while its important to prioritize your tasks and get important things done first – to avoid the pitfalls of distraction – the nice thing about managing an online business is the flexibility in schedule and workflow.

You can work more strategically, and work more hours, when you need to increase your income levels. You can work less and take time off as you need it when you just need to maintain current income levels. The great thing about being an online business owner is that you have that option.

The key, of course, is in managing that flexibility wisely.

Having an Action Plan that will keep you moving towards your goals is very important. You also want to prioritize your daily tasks and keep a check on your work habits, to make sure that you are being productive during your best hours.

And while it can be frustrating and even overwhelming at times, that there is always something to be done or something new to check out… I see it as a huge positive that there is no lack of work.

Because there is no cap on the profit potential. There is no end to the creative ideas, or ways to capitalize on those ideas. There is no boredom, no twiddling of the thumbs, or feeling as if you are being held back. There will be no one to end the contract or lay you off – it is a permanent, profitable position for those who choose it…

Online, the work is never done. There are days that may seem frustrating, yes. But you have to admit, there’s a certain sense of security in that thought as well.

Best,

  1. [...] Then this morning, I was reading a few blogs as I like to do with my coffee and one of them was Lynn’s Clicknewz – “The Work is Never Done“.  She talks about the flexibility of being able to work from home.  How it’s so great to be able to work more when you need to, but then lay off relax and enjoy life when you want to do that as well.  [...]
