Four decades later, some are considering “scrapping it all” and rebuilding the internet from scratch…
Researchers Explore Scrapping the Internet
The idea may seem unthinkable, even absurd, but many believe a “clean slate” approach is the only way to truly address security, mobility and other challenges that have cropped up since UCLA professor Leonard Kleinrock helped supervise the first exchange of meaningless test data between two machines on Sept. 2, 1969.
There has already been outside interest shown by certain organizations, which I imagine will play a big part in the development and direction. Interesting to say the least…
Your thoughts?
Best,

Hi Lynn
I think that’s one of the most
rediculous ideas I’ve ever heard!
And I think that if it did happen,
the motive would be money, not security.
But that’s just my thinking
The saying “you don’t know what you got till it’s gone”
will play a role for those that think it’s a good idea.
We already face a day where email costs,
and where the big boys decide who gets
the bandwidth based on who can pay,
efectively “shutting down” the little guy.
I think change is unavoidable.
And so are greedy investors.
The internet shocked the world,
and would have been HUGELY different
if the big companies would have
seen it for what it would become.
And when they DO finally find a way
to monetize every inch of the web, (and they will)
we are going to miss what we had.
Unavoidable…
So be ready.
Or at least aware.
(my 2 cents)
Brad.
P.S.
LOVE the new blog Lynn!!
Really nice!!

Thank you, Brad!
And thank you for your comments on the topic… I’ve read the article 4 times already myself, and finally just decided to post the link for others. To be honest, I’m still digesting the concept and what we could expect from such a restructure (particularly considering the people and organizations that are anxious to get involved)…
