Test-Driving WordPress

Well, here we are! "Hello world!", right? 😀

I've come a long way since that 'quick install' - and in a short amount of time. I have to admit, the setup for WordPress is ridiculously easy... and makes for a really fun project! In case you missed it, you'll find my weekend ramblings on that at the old blog: Setting up WordPress.

To give you a quick rundown, here are just a few of the little things that I'm loving about WordPress so far:

  • I have full stats! (woo hoo!)
  • I am in complete control (always a plus!)
  • I have smilies (hehe, will try not to over-use them 😈 )
  • I have categories! No more unorganized rambling ~haha
  • The template & plugins I got from Teli are all pre-optimized and ready to go (thank you, Teli!!)
  • I have a search feature (see it over there in the right sidebar?)

Oh, and speaking of the search feature, check this out: click here. Do you see that? Whatever you search for using the little search box on my blog... the Adsense tends to be relevant to your search terms (even more so than the actual page content)! Pretty cool, huh? Here's another example, just to prove the point: online dating search. Nice!

I still have a bit of work to do here - particularly on the layout and design. That may actually take me a few days, but I'm not sweating it. I've been brainstorming my action plan, looking over keywords, considering the categories I'll add and going over my overall goals for the blog.

There will be some work to do this week, of course - updating my email notification and adding the form here, switching out all of my feedburner links, setting up some quality inbound links, yada yada yada. All said and done it will all be worth it - I have a feeling I'm really going to enjoy the switch to WordPress 😉

  1. Glad to hear that you using WordPress now. Supposedly it is is easy to transfer from Blogger to WordPress, so I hope that it is for you.Let us peons know how things work out.

On the strength of your recommendation I have purchased the OptiNiche package.

  2. Great! It comes with so many things already set up for you, and a step-by-step manual too, which makes the entire set-up & optimization MUCH easier than doing it on your own. Honestly, I wouldnt have know which options I needed otherwise!

As for transferring from Blogger - actually, I intend to leave those posts where they are, and simply start fresh here at the WordPress blog. So many of those posts are already indexed, and have inbound links... so after some thought, I decided that would be the best strategy for me.
