Presscut Theme and The Archives Page

When I installed this pretty little Presscut Theme on my WordPress blog, the Archives link in the top navigation didnt work. Instead, it sent you to a 404 File Not Found (eek! ) page. If you have ever clicked on it, this is what you saw:

Nice, huh? That custom 404 page came with the theme too, by the way. At any rate, I sat down today with the goal of tweaking my theme and updating my blog a bit – and fixing this nasty little problem was at the top of my list.

The Presscut Theme is actually based on the Cutline Theme, so for anyone else that is having problems with the Archives link (or any top navigation links) not working on their blog, here is the fix:

That’s all fine and dandy, and very helpful if it applies to you (or more accurately, your blog). But I already have “pretty permalinks” and couldnt figure out how to get an archives page that looks like this (with links to archives by date and by category).

A lightbulb goes off in my head – I have to create an Archives page. I have no idea why he didnt mention that in the tutorial – sheesh! Fortunately, someone brought it up in the comments section. To save you from reading through the first 20 of 87 comments (like I did), here is the link:

Ha – a should have been obvious 30-second solution!

We now have Archives :D See: ClickNewz Archives

I hope that saved you from digging through search results and hundreds of posts & comments on this topic!

Now I’m off to see what else I can fix…

Best,

    Oh Lynn,
You are a godsend! However when I did what the above link said to do (regarding creating an “archives” page), I still couldn’t get it to work. But then I read down through the other comments and figured it out.

When you create your archives page, you need to select “archives” as the page template…mine was defaulted to “default”. Anyway, thanks for sharing your findings. ;)

Hi Lynn…I have a few questions about the prescutt theme…

How do I just keep one header instead of the rotating ones?

How do I remove the feedburner calculator or set it up?

How do I add new links?

I searched the comments at the theme site but came out empty handed.

    Thanks for introducing this theme.

    O thank you Lynn!

I have installed and then uninstalled Cutline out of frustration on this issue…!

Actually now I have other themes I like.

Looking for themes for a friend I found several great new themes – but I’ll go through the fix you mention just to learn how.

    :-)

@ Herman – look in your ftp for the header images – you’ll find header1.jpg, header2.jpg etc all you have to do is replace the ones you dislike with images you like – make sure you get the height and width correct and the filename too.

If you only want one particular image make 6 copies of the image with filenames header1.jpg, header2.jpg header3.jpg etc

    :-)

are you still using the presscut theme, where can I download it?

I recently had a custom theme designed, which is what you see now, but I do love the Presscut Theme. You can find it by doing a search on google – use quotes around it: “presscut theme” that should bring you right to it.
