I’m not ignoring you…

If you have sent an email to me recently, rest assured I’m not ignoring you! I switched all my email to another computer, and in the process had a little goof-up (totally unlike me, I know  ) so I’ve been busy sorting that out in my spare time.

Also, over the weekend my daughter managed to wreck her foot. I was beginning to wonder how many times I would have to say “No cartwheels in the house!” before it sank in. Now I know… until she found out why for herself. :-|

Actually both of my children were home from school today. My son was blessed with the little stomach flu that is “going around” – and around and around and around – so I had to pick him up from school around mid morning.

Dont you love it when you get up at 5:30am… for nothing? I told the kids squarely today that from now on they had to let me know the night before if they were going to be sick, hurt or otherwise skipping school.

That’s only fair, dont ya think?!

Ann Marie and I have an appointment with the Podiatrist first thing in the morning. You might remember a similar episode a year or so ago where she broke two bones in her foot (trampoline incident) - well, it’s the other foot this time.

I’m hoping it’s not actually broke (no obvious swelling or discoloration, though she cant walk on it)… and that she wont miss out on the rest of softball season and all the other fun summer activities that are about to kick off.

Blah, blah blah – I’m exhausted. Long day here… see you guys tomorrow ;)

    Hi Lynn

    Thank you, Suzanne :)

I am looking forward to finding out something one way or the other at the DR this morning. Poor baby!

Okay, well – here’s the update about Ann Marie’s foot:

There’s damage in or near the ‘growth center’ at the base of her third toe. They arent sure if the growth center itself is damaged, but diagnosed it “soft tissue damage” for now. We go back for more X-rays next week.

There is a little swelling still, but not much. They put a soft cast and a special shoe on her… and put her on crutches. She cant put any weight on her right foot at all yet.

Worst case scenario she’ll end up with one short toe on that foot :?

But here’s the real kicker (no pun intended) – her school is not handicap accessible. That just blew my mind. It’s not something you realize until you’re in that situation, I guess. There is a ramp out front – but it is steep and winding. You would need an electric wheelchair (or one very strong pusher) – there’s no way a 9yo is going to make it up that on crutches and one good foot.

The only entrance without steps is locked from the outside… and is on the opposite end of the school from her classroom. We finally got a kindergarten teacher to let us in through her class, and walked (I walked, she hobbled along on her crutches) the entire length of the school (poor child).

Feeling sure there must be elevators or something that we just werent aware of, we stopped at the main office and asked. No luck. I dont even know what to say about that…

I spoke with her teacher next, to get an idea of what the best plan would be for Ann Marie. I offered to take her work home and keep her homebound the rest of the year – but that didnt seem like an option they approved of.

She finally agreed to let me bring her to the back door of the classroom in the morning, and pick her back up there in the afternoon. That will mean me carrying her up and down steep steps… but its the shortest flight of steps to get into the building, so that’s better than nothing.

Softball is out of course. Its a shame the money I put into that LOL, but oh well. I’ll post a few pictures later, maybe.

I’m sorry to hear about all of this Lynn.

Hopefully Ann Marie heals up perfectly (no short toes) quickly so she can get back to being a kid and having fun :)

Thanks, Teli ;) Kids have a tendency to heal quickly it seems, so we’re staying positive and not worrying too awful much. We’ll know more in a week, so for now she’s just taking it easy.

Sounds like the bunches of three’s that happen form time to time.Or maybe murphy’s law struck again. In any case “best wishes” for a speedy and full recovery for Ann Marie.

How does your school district get away with not being handicapped accessible?

Regarding email, how com you never jumped on the Gmail band wagon?

  8. Hi Lynn,

My best wishes for a speedy recovery to Anne Marie:) What moms won’t do for their children…

  9. Lynn Terry says:

    Thank you, Ellen :)

I dont know, Robert – but I am sure that’s why there wasnt an argument about my suggestion to keep her at home. They agreed to excuse her absense from classes and let her complete her work from here.

Gmail? I dont know… I havent been ‘sold’ on it I guess?
