  1. Hi Lynn,

Super video. I felt like you were talking right to me because I've gotten off track this week and it's really stressed me out.

Today is my "get back on track day" and I sure wish I felt as comfortable making videas as you do.

    Have a great day, Monna

    • Thank you Monna - and glad to hear it! I had to laugh a bit at your comment about me being so comfortable making videos. I tried to make four last week and finally just gave up lol. If it's not one thing it's another - lighting, background noise, you name it. πŸ˜›

Here's to an awesome week ahead! πŸ˜€ *cheers*

  3. Hi Lynn.

    Great video πŸ™‚

Just a few short months ago I had two options come to mind whenever I got stressed, frustrated or overwhelmed...

#1 Throw the damn compute through the window in sheer frustration

#2 Go to bed and hide from world with the covers over my head until I felt ready to face the world again, lol.

Number was always the preferred option, thankfully because I can't afford to be buying new PC each month. hehe

But now, I've developed a similar strategy to what you revealed in the video above.

#1 I take a deep breath. Open up a notepad document and ask myself WHY am I stressed. Then I write it down.

#2 Reflecting upon that I ask myself what tasks do I need to complete for my business to run and strategically grow. I write it down.

#3 And finally, if there was a specific task that what overwhelming me at that time (usually the case) I ask myself if that task is going to move my business forward when complete. If the answers no, I no longer do it.

#4 I then start doing the tasks on my list and by this point I already feel MUCH better anyway. By the time the tasks on my list are complete I get that sense of achievement feeling and I'm back on track for the next day. πŸ™‚

    See ya in brainstorming hour!

  4. Gees, my typing is bad. My mind goes to fast for my fingers, lol.

I was meant to say number 2 was always the obvious option. πŸ™‚

    • LOL I have that problem a lot. πŸ˜‰

Smart strategy! I also journal things out when I feel frustrated or stressed, or when I feel some sort of resistance to something. Getting it on the screen in front of you makes it much easier to do deal with in my experience! *cheers*

  5. Ohhhhh girl you and I both! LOL! This has been a stressful YEAR for me, going through a divorce, health scares. And now just learning to live a new life.

I'm like you - methodical, what has to get done, and sometimes "Oh well!" Important to self care.

I'm thinking about getting a reflexology foot appt. It's good, I take it! πŸ™‚

    • I've been following along, Tiffany - you've definitely had your hands full with various things the last few months! From my end, it looks like you've handled it *exceptionally* well. But I know just how trying those things can be on you personally. It's really tough when you have SO much to deal with at once! And I never seem to get the little problems, or one at a time, lol. πŸ˜›

Try the reflexology sometime. You may LOVE it! πŸ˜‰

  6. Hi Lynn,

Very nice video. I like what you said at the end there about technology giving us the opportunity to bring our creative sides into a business of our own. I am over 60 and no one at this point is going to hire me for anything more than min. wage, which sorry! I don't do! My expertise and experience is worth far more than that. You cannot sell yourself short.

Right now, I feel like you do; trying to optimize my site every day, with all of the distractions and inconveniences of life that are thrown at us always!

This week I've yet to do a new post because my car is in the shop and as I'm writing this, I'm babysitting my grand daughters, (22 mos & almost 4 mos) and doing everything else at home for my husband and 2 dogs that just go with the territory.

But I have 4 drafts outlined and will be implementing your plugins for the tops and bottoms of posts and love the carousel widget; I'll be using that too.

Start your day with prayer, trust that God's ways will be close to yours, and just enjoy!

    • Thank you Alice. πŸ˜€ I'm actually impressed that you have four posts outlined and in draft with such a busy house this week! I managed to squeeze in shooting that one video *right* before my dinner date showed up last night, lol. Geez, it feels like time is flying lately! There just don't seem to be enough hours in the day the last few weeks - more than usual even. πŸ˜›

  7. Hi Lynn, one thing that really works for me when I am stressed is to play my guitar! Now, I am not nearly a professional player, but I made an effort to learn at least the basics of playing the guitar, and now I have a lot of fun doing it. Sometimes I spend 20-30 minutes, and that is enough to put me in a different state of mind. I really recommend people spend a little bit of their time to learn how to play a musical instrument, it makes all the difference for me! Thanks!

  8. Great post Lynn! I have been struggling this week as I have been exhausted but what you recommended is similar to what I've done. I come up with 3 MITs (Most Important Tasks) and then focus on those until they are done. I work for an hour or so then to give myself a break - I check email/facebook. After a few minutes, I'm back on that task. I look at it this way. When I'm at home (I rent an office for my business), I do the laundry, clean house, wash dishes etc. even when I don't want to so I owe my business at least that much respect considering it pays the bills and I want to keep my clients happy.

Come to think of it, here's another tip. Tell someone you will do it! Being a service provider gives me an advantage because if I tell my clients I will work on their site "tomorrow", I'm much more likely to do it!

My favorite tools are and With idonethis, that sense of accomplishment you mentioned kicks in and I find myself wanting to do things just so I can add them LOLIt was AWESOME seeing you and talking to you at NAMS!

  9. I like your video and what you said about being stressed and having the technology to do what we can from the comfort of our homes....what really stuck with me was your comment on a sense of accomplishment....that does reduce stress in many ways and I have been fortunate to experience those awesome feelings.

One of my niches as I mentioned to you is in the healing music niche....when I am stressed I play healing music /ambient nature music in the background. Another idea is to play it on an ipod or phone while you are walking in mother natures presence. Of course as you write why you are stressed this music can be played in the background and it really works to bring you back to a calm, focused state.

For you ladies, going for a bath with candles around you and playing this music works wonders for relaxation and bringing you back to a state of calm. After doing this you have a renewed energy.

Hope my response helps those who are stressed or even those who need to refocus.

    • Great ideas, Carl! I like to turn on music, close all other tabs, mute my phone, and just focus on a single task when I'm trying to get through the list. Focus really helps. Too many tabs, too many things on my desk, etc seem to keep me distracted - when I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed, that is. Most days those things don't bother me at all. πŸ˜›

  10. Hello Lynn,

I can totally relate. I get stressed when I have things I need to do and I haven't done them. They don't be serious it's just that I like to get things done. Micro tasking has helped me out because doing things little at a time you get them done. For me when I am stressed out I drink a cup of tea usually peppermint. I also do yoga that is a very good stress reliever. It will also put you to sleep too. πŸ™‚ Prayer also helps me with stress too. Thanks for sharing this with us!

    • You're welcome, Maketta! πŸ˜€ I prefer my coffee, but I do find taking a fresh cup of coffee outside, or to a totally different location than usual, really helps me to regain my focus. Sometimes just moving from my home office to the back deck makes all the difference!

  11. This was right on target, Lynn. When I start feeling stressed or depressed, I can almost guarantee one of two things is going on: I'm either behind or sleep or I'm trying to juggle too many balls and I need to choose one or two to put down until later. That tracks with your experience too, and I completely agree that taking some kind of action is always therapeutic.
Elizabeth Cottrell recently posted..Five Secrets To Connecting With Almost AnyoneMy Profile

    • You brought up a great point about juggling too much. Just this week I cut some things OUT of my schedule that weren't necessary - or could easily be done another time - and it brought a huge sense of relief. I find it far too easy to get ambitious about how much I can actually accomplish, lol. Knowing what to let go, and when, so you can focus on the bigger priorities, can really relieve unnecessary overwhelm.

Thanks for the video Lynn. I noticed you mentioned how you were not having much luck making videos.. I thought this one was great. Have you ever watched Chris Pirello's videos? He is a techy geek guy from techtv days.. anyways, he has these hard edit points that just make his videos flow, maybe you could get some inspiration from watching him review a couple things? Just a thought... I noticed your video had a lot of similar edits and it reminded me of his videos..

    Take Care!

  13. Lynn, as you know, I love your videos and I've been waiting for a new one. This one was a really good one for me. I feel stress a lot, in fact I deal with depression and anxiety every day. I feel it most days when I first wake up, like you said (stress) in your video.

There are specific things that I do to deal with it.

    Work out
Watch a good program on TV
I love a good nap too! lol

Something I did yesterday, I had to get out and visit my dad anyway. I left way ahead of time and I stopped at the mall in one of the cafe's and had my iPad with me expecting they had good WI-FI. Well they did, but they were all password protected....darn!!! lol πŸ™
I did a little writing but not as much as I would have liked to. πŸ˜‰

However, it turned out to be a good day anyway, I had my hair cut and styled and it just made me feel better about myself. πŸ™‚

One thing I'm stressed about right now is getting my eBook done, yes...I'm still working on it and I have a goal to get it done by the end of March, and wow, I'm really pushing that one, HELLO, it's March 21st!! lol It will get done when it gets done! πŸ˜›

I'm looking forward to getting out more and working in those places that DO have good WI-FI that is NOT password protected! It feels good just to get out among the living! lol

Thanks for a great video! πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Tammy! How's it going with that goal?? πŸ˜€ Every now and then I like to get out and work at a coffee shop or something, but I do find it more distracting and less comfortable. The thing that helps me most is a few solid hours of QUIET TIME! haha. I really need my downtime and quiet time to destress and get the creativity flowing. That's an introvert for ya! πŸ˜‰

  14. After the past couple of weeks, I needed this post! I really enjoyed your candid video. I am quite similar in that I make a list, prioritize it, then get to work. Seeing the checks gives me a real sense of accomplishment and definitely feel the stress going away. Although it takes me a little while to accept it.

Thanks Lynn for all you do!

Complete overwhelm is more like it, lol. So I went over the list, started with the most pressing deadlines and most stressful tasks - and knocked those out first. AHHHH. πŸ˜›

Hope this week is kicking off nicely for you!!

  15. Traci Knoppe

I've had several YEARS of extreme stress due to personal things, and work things too. It's actually negatively impacted my overall health - and it's the health issues that prompted me to do something about it. Odd how I knew I was stressed, but in the middle of it - I was too stressed to deal with it, until something worse happened.

Taking care of me is now my #1 priority.

Speaking of desks: I don't work well with my desk or work space cluttered. That definitely adds to my stress. LOL

I've started doing regular spa visits for massages, and mani/pedis. Also completely unplugged and it really helps.

    Miss chatting with you!

    • I miss chatting with you too, Traci. I look forward to the next opportunity we get to hang out in person! πŸ˜€ I totally understand how health issues can bring you back around full circle and totally change your priorities. As you know, I was down more than half of last year. I'm so glad to have that behind me. But also grateful for the shift.

Thankfully clutter doesn't distract me, or I'd never get ANYthing done lol. I am feeling that "spring cleaning" itch though - but that may be procrastination, you know, avoiding doing first quarter books or something. πŸ˜› lol

  16. I thought I was the only one who ever wakes up stressed. Sorry to hear you do too, but glad I'm not alone.

I like naps. LOVE naps, in fact.

Music, though, is my "go to" source for stress relief. It always has been.

Books helped a little when I was younger, but now that I do so much reading for my work, reading feels too much like work and makes me think of all the things I should be doing for work -- not ideal for stress relief efforts. LOL.

Great video, I love the way it was edited.

    • Thank you Andrea! I'm actually off to take my long Monday nap in a few minutes and I am SO looking forward to it. πŸ˜€ I like to kick off the week super early, but also do a live session with my group on Monday nights, so it's a "long nap" day. πŸ˜‰

I miss reading for pleasure. And having the time and space (uninterrupted) to TRULY enjoy it. πŸ™‚

  17. Thanks so much for your post - spoken from the heart. I don't like to admit it but I know that sometimes I wake up stressed - well I call it frustrated. I find myself reacting rather than responding. I am more aware now and I can usually notice this in myself and change my response. I do think that accepting how we feel to begin with and then doing simple things makes a difference.

    • It's such a big difference - reacting without thinking, vs accepting and embracing it and then being proactive about how you go forward from there. You can easily let it ruin your whole day, or you can deal with it (attack it head on) and then get on with a decent day!

Hi Lynn: Some time ago maybe three months ago you talked about the person who you use to help you out with your website(s). You had put his name and email address up at the top of the your newsletter.

I was interested in contacting him to help me out with the development of a website. Is it possible to get his website information or phone number again? Seems I slipped up and loss his information.
