There are new HostGator Coupon Codes floating around, and several new special offers going on at the moment.

This means BIG savings on hosting for you… but you want to watch the offers carefully and make sure you pick the one that is right for you.

I’ve been using HostGator myself for several years now. In fact, ClickNewz is hosted on their Baby Plan.

There are a number of reasons they are my top choice, which I shared in detail in my post on the best cheap web hosting. For less than $10/mo you can host unlimited domains, websites and blogs on the one account.

If you’re interested in seeing the other reasons, including the fact that they will transfer your site/blog to your new hosting account FOR you, see the post I linked to above. But in this post I want to share two new HostGator Coupon Codes with you, and share WHY you should pick your coupon code carefully…

Which HostGator Plan To Choose

You don’t necessarily want to go with the cheapest hosting plan they offer, based on price alone. The cheapest shared plan they offer is called “Hatchling” but it only allows you ONE domain on the account.

I recommend (and use) the “Baby” hosting plan, which allows you unlimited domains. That means you only need ONE (cheap) hosting account to host ALL of your domains, sites, blogs, etc.

Trust me, that will save you tons in the long run.

Choosing Your HostGator Coupon Code

Here are the two new coupon codes you can choose from:

http://www.hostgator.com/promo/penny-offer.shtml
coupon code: save994offer

Using the coupon code “save994offer” will let you get your first month of hosting for only a penny. That’s about as close to free as you can get, which helps a lot of people set up their first website super-cheap. Basically around 10 bucks (the price of your domain name). After the first month, you are billed the regular rate of $9.95/month for the Baby Plan.

The second coupon code, and newest offer is:

http://www.hostgator.com/promo/special-offer.shtml
coupon code: save25offer

NOTE: When you go to that page, it says the special offer is 20% off. When you click “sign up” you’ll notice the coupon code is “SPRING”. Switch that out with the coupon code “save25offer” to get 25% off instead.

This coupon code applies *only* to your first invoice, so if you are planning to pay monthly you want to use the “save994offer” for the best possible savings. But if you plan to sign up for a longer contract, you’ll save much more using the “save25offer”.

For example, if you sign up for 3 years your Baby hosting plan will come out to only $5.96/month. Or if you sign up for 2 years, it averages out to only $6.71/month. So you’re saving A LOT more than $9.94 by using the second coupon code.

You can play around with the different options and see what the rates come to. You can save quite a bit going this route – and avoid monthly billing hassles (such as credit card changes, expiring cards, etc).

Bottom line:

Use “save994offer” if you want to pay by the month.

Use “save25offer” if you’re in it for the long haul.

Here are the two special offer links again:

http://www.hostgator.com/promo/penny-offer.shtml
coupon code: save994offer

http://www.hostgator.com/promo/special-offer.shtml
coupon code: save25offer

Best,

p.s. You also get $100 Google Adwords credit when you sign up for a HostGator hosting plan. Great way to kick-start your marketing!

What I love about HostGator, why I think they’re the best cheap web hosting you can get right now, how to save money on your hosting account, and which hosting plan you should choose…

HostGator doesn’t just get my vote. They also get my money, month after month. I have 4 hosting accounts with HostGator with more than 40 sites/domains hosted on those accounts. And I’m still paying less than $40/month!

My accounts would cost me even less (barely over $30/mo) if I was paying annually instead of monthly. You can get the ideal hosting package from HostGator for only $7.95/month.

You’ll notice the banner to the right features WordPress hosting. I host a combination of blogs, websites, domains, squeeze pages -you name it.

I’ll share with you what I love about HostGator, why I think they’re the best cheap web hosting you can get right now, how to save money on your hosting account, and which hosting plan you should choose…

HostGator Coupon Code

When you sign up for your HostGator web hosting account, you’ll notice a field for “coupon”. Use the code “wordpress” (without quotes) to get your first month for only a penny. That will save you almost 10 bucks!

You can save even more by paying annually, which will equal $7.95/month instead of $9.95/month, saving you $24 a year on your hosting account.

Looking for the Best Cheap Web Hosting?

I have used a variety of web hosts over the 13+ years I’ve been working online. I switched to HostGator more than 4 years ago, and have since moved ALL of my sites and domains over to HostGator’s servers.

They use cpanel, which is short for a specific type of control panel. Below you can see a partial screen shot of the main page of my HostGator cpanel:

Just some of the reasons I consider HostGator the best cheap web hosting, and why I use them myself, include:

Runs smooth, excellent uptime

24/7 Service & Support

Contact by online chat or Toll-Free Phone Number

** They will transfer your website over for FREE **

Easily install WordPress & more with Fantastico

Unlimited domains, sub-domains, sites, blogs, and email addresses

Accounts include AWstats and Webalizer for site statistics

Offers video tutorials and a Getting Started Wizard

There are tons of features, everything you would expect from any great web host, but the number one reason I have stayed with HostGator – and switched ALL of my sites over to them – is the lack of issues.

The few problems I’ve had over the years have been problems I caused myself (lol), and they went out of their way to help me resolve them via online chat support. The service has been smooth, and their support team is great. Though I’ve rarely had to use Support, which is another up-side.

Which HostGator Hosting Plan To Choose

You want to choose the Baby Plan when you sign up for web hosting with HostGator. It’s 9.95/month (or 7.95/month if you pay yearly), and allows you to host unlimited sites/domains/blogs on the one account.

You can go with the cheaper plan, but you’ll save money in the long run by using the Baby Plan. You never know when you might want to add a new domain or website to your account!

A lot of people ask about reseller or dedicated accounts. Like I said, I have 40+ domains/sites hosted across my 4 HostGator accounts, tons of email & traffic, and have never had an issue with space or bandwidth.

If and when I do upgrade, I’ll be sticking with HostGator. They offer dedicated servers and reseller accounts, and you can easily upgrade at any time without all the hassle of moving to a new host for that.

Tip: Never register your domain with your web host. Use a separate company, preferably a domain registrar like GoDaddy. Choose and register your domain name first, then set up your hosting account next.

Ready To Get Started?

If you already have your domain name and you’re shopping for new web hosting, or your first web hosting account, you can go straight to HostGator and get signed up for the Baby Plan in a matter of minutes:

If you plan to set up a WordPress blog on your HostGator account, see
How To Start A WordPress Blog for a detailed checklist you can follow.

. . . . . . . . . .

Update: There are new coupon codes floating around for HostGator right now, and several special offers. CHOOSE CAREFULLY. I detailed what they are, and why it matters, in this new post:

http://www.clicknewz.com/2699/new-hostgator-coupon-codes/

Happy Hosting!

Best,

p.s. Yes, ClickNewz is hosted with HostGator

Disclaimer: I am both a happy customer and an affiliate with HostGator web hosting and GoDaddy. I earn commission on referrals, which helps support all the time & money that goes into keeping ClickNewz free for you.

Let’s start with the issues. Nothing like having the bad news first, right?

I set up a new HostGator account last week and I’ve been having all kinds of disconnect issues, as well as incredibly slow loading pages and images.

I figured it was something to do with that site specifically, as I have several other HostGator accounts that seem to be doing just fine… but I’ve heard reports from other users that they are experiencing the same on their end.

If you have hosting accounts with HostGator, I’d love to hear from you either way – any issues with your accounts over the past week?

To be fair, I’ve never had any major issues with HostGator and their support is second to none. In fact, I can’t think of a single issue I’ve had with them at all. So I’m inclined to wait this out as I’m sure it will be resolved rather quickly.

Earlier today I received the HostGator Newsletter, which I thought might mention the issue so I opened it up. No mention of that, but there were a couple of cool points in that email.

First is that you can find HostGator on Twitter: @hostgator – “In addition to updates and news about HostGator, unofficial support is provided via the company Twitter account”. I can vouch for this, as they sent a timely response while I was having a conversation with someone else about HostGator just this week.

Second was about an upcoming live webinar that looks interesting:

HostGator Live

On Wednesday, July 29 at 8 PM central time, HostGator is hosting a live webinar and question and answer session for HostGator customers. The webinar will include:

Tips on how to get the most out of your HostGator account.

Exclusive discounts, deals, and giveaways

Introduction to and question and answers about our upcoming Windows Shared Hosting offering

Question and answers with senior HostGator employees and management

See our blog post for more details, including information on how to listen in and participate.

And… I saved the best for last …

Special Offer:

Save 20% on your next hosting plan or order with HostGator. Use the coupon code hgnews7.

You can also use the coupon code “wordpress” to get your first month of hosting for only a penny, so you’ll have to do the math and see which coupon code would save you most on your order.

Like I said upfront, some of the accounts seem to be having an issue this week, but not all. But I’m sure that will get resolved fairly quick. I’ve been through some real hosting nightmares (!) in my years online, and HostGator is the absolute best host I’ve worked with to date.

I love the fact that they’re doing the live webinar. That is scheduled for this coming Wednesday, so be sure to mark you calendar.

Best,

p.s. HostGator allows you to host unlimited domains, websites, blogs etc on your one hosting account, for less than $10/month. I always use the account that is $9.95/month (or $7.95/mo if paid annually).

Here’s hoping they get my sites back up promptly - and certainly before tomorrow’s Webinar! I’ll keep you posted…

There’s nothing like logging on to one of your own sites to see this message:

That’s exactly what several of my sites are displaying today, and I’m NOT happy about it. I happened to be on one of my sites, so I know precisely when it happened – around 4:30pm EST – with the email notification following a few minutes later (at 4:34)…

I cant even log in to my control panel, mind you – but I know for a fact that I checked the little checkbox that said “please notify me if I begin to near my limits” – you know, so I could actually do something about it. Letting my websites go offline not being one of the things I would choose to do in that case, of course.

These sites are hosted with ThirdSphere. I thought to myself, Geez what could be the problem? I just paid my invoice plus a double bandwidth package on the 21st! I’ve been paying for the double bandwidth usage for well over a year, and now all of a sudden I use all of that within 7 days??

For the record, I am paying the ridiculous price of $49.90 for this particular hosting package (which hosts several of my sites), which includes the additional bandwidth usage cost.

I’ve had my account with ThirdSphere since June of 2004, and while I’ve had very few problems with the actual hosting – their support and customer service STINKS. Fortunately I havent had to use it that often.

The least they could have done was send me a notice in advance. But no – they take my sites offline first, and then notify me. And the real kicker? The notification email offered no resolution. Here are the contents of that message:

The domain webservicenetwork.com has reached its bandwidth limit.

Please contact the system admin as soon as possible.

!! Do not respond to this message. Your reply will go nowhere. !!

They have no telephone support whatsoever, so I submitted a ticket… almost 3 hours ago. I finally got a response just moments ago (while I was typing this actually) that tells me I need to purchase an additional bandwidth package. Fine – but they didnt include a link or instructions on how or where I should do that!

{{scream}}

ThirdSphere can kiss my bandwidth – and my monthly billing – goodbye!

First things first. I have to pay whatever they want me to pay in order to access my control panel and get all of my files backed up. From there, I’m moving those sites to HostGator, the easy way. Its bad enough I’m overpaying for their service, but I really didnt need this hassle today.

Here’s hoping they get my sites back up promptly – and certainly before tomorrow’s Webinar! I’ll keep you posted…

ADDED: This is finally resolved with ThirdSphere. And good grief – all it took was $25 to get my sites back online . I dont know why they didnt just send an invoice or request the money several hours ago – but whatever. I’m relieved the sites are back online at the moment…

Deciding to move your site to a new web host is much easier than actually doing it. The process can seem daunting, particularly if you have databases and scripts and such to deal with. Unless you’re a tech geek, it can easily feel like an overwhelming task.

In fact, that’s one of the reasons that several of my sites are still hosted on a particular server. It’s been on my list for months now to move them over to a new host that is more economical and offers better features, but I have procrastinated on actually making the move due to the size of the job…

The web host that I’d like to move those sites to is HostGator. I have several sites hosted there already, and they have exceptional support and tons of features. The pricing is ideal too at less than $10/month for unlimited domains/sites per account. You can even get the first month free with this HostGator Coupon Code.

As I was contemplating the mind boggling task of moving each of my sites – and all of their ‘accessories’ – over to HostGator again today, I went over to their site to check on one of their features… and noticed this:

Yes, you read that right: free website transfer! HostGator will transfer your files, your databases, your scripts – you name it! – at no additional charge.

Geez, why didnt I catch that before?

Now that is the easiest way to switch web hosts! Looking for a new host yourself? Go with HostGator and let them do all the work

Best,

Hostgator has a New Year Special good through February 1st. You can save 20% on their web hosting service by using the coupon code “NEWYEAR” (without the quotes, of course).

I tested this coupon code myself, to see which of the two current coupon codes is the better deal. As you know, I offer a coupon code where you can get your first month of hosting service free – actually it’s 1c (a penny), but that’s about as close to free as you can get when setting up a hosting account

So which of the two coupon codes should you use?

Here’s a breakdown of the 2 coupon codes for HostGator, and what you’ll get with each:

Coupon Code: wordpress
With this coupon code you’ll get your first month for only one penny. The most popular plan is called “Baby” and is $9.95/month when paid monthly. This option will let you get set up and get things rolling for practically zero investment other than your domain name. A great deal!

Coupon Code: NEWYEAR
This coupon code expires on February 1st, and so is a limited time offer. They dont tell you much about it upfront, other than the code will save you 20%. A quick test I did this morning shows that the code will give you a 20% savings on your checkout total – but not a continued savings. Your next invoice will be at regular price. Their prices are incredibly competitive, so that’s still a great deal.

If you are going to set up a Baby hosting account – which is their popular full featured hosting service with the ability to add unlimited domains/sites – and you plan to pay monthly at 9.95/mo, then the best coupon code to use is “wordpress”.

Even if you dont plan to host a blog or use WordPress, the coupon code will still work for you. That will save you $9.94 upfront. The 20% off coupon code (newyear) would only save you $1.90 on your first month.

However, if you plan to pay yearly, you’ll want to use the coupon code “NEWYEAR”. This will save you $23.88 upfront instead of $9.94. Your first year of hosting would total $95.52 – which is equal to $7.96/month.

Click Here to use either coupon code at HostGator.com

HostGator is the host that I use here at Clicknewz.com, and for several other sites that I own as well. They have excellent support and tons of features – I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new host, or setting up their first hosting account.

Enjoy the savings!

I hate to admit it, but somehow over the years it has all become a bit of a mess. 31 domain names, 23 subdomains, 19 email addresses, multiple databases and scripts running across several sites - you get the picture...

Several months ago I decided it was time to make a hosting switch. A daunting task, mind you, so I’ve kept busy with other projects knowing I would get to that eventually.

Eventually is here.

I have quite a few exciting changes, updates & additions to roll out in September. I have eluded to some of those including Web 2.0 Niche Affiliate Sites (which are taking the place of my static affiliate sites), the launch of my Affiliate Program, free weekly Webinars, etc.

The preparation for each of these projects includes installations and such. And of course there’s the matter of getting organized to easily manage it all. Obviously it is better to do my web hosting switchover now, versus waiting until everything is installed and ‘live’ and then trying to move it all over.

I hate to admit it, but somehow over the years it has all become a bit of a mess. 31 domain names, 23 subdomains, 19 email addresses, multiple databases and scripts running across several sites – you get the picture.

Fortunately it’s that small. At one time I had well over 100 domain names!

Its not that big a deal, really. Its just a matter of wrapping your mind around the details, organizing it the way you want it, creating an action plan that avoids any downtime, and then digging in (back-ups first, of course ).

For quite a few years now I have been hosting several of my sites at ThirdSphere. They have been a great web host, and I honestly have no complaints with them.

I signed on with them initially because they offer an all-in-one ecommerce package. There are built-in affiliate program managers, autoresponders, their “automation station”, etc. I had originally intended to use the affiliate program manager, which made the $24.95/month price well worth it for unlimited sites/domains & affiliate programs.

I have since decided to go with ClickBank + EasyClickmate to manage my affiliate programs. The primary selling point being that I want all of my products grouped together for my affiliates – including one log-in for stats and links, and one main location for affiliate management (VS managing each products program individually).

Another group of my sites are hosted on HostGator… and over the past year or two, I have really come to like them – A LOT. They offer a toll free number and Live Support (chat), which is something that ThirdSphere does not offer. They are also under $10/month, and that includes unlimited domains/sites per account.

And somehow I’m paying $50/month for my ThirdSphere account now. I believe its an add-on package for additional bandwidth or disk space that they are charging me for – but I havent been able to figure out exactly what it is. My assumption is a default email account somewhere is filling up or something – I’m honestly not sure.

Price is really the least of my worries. I just keep paying it every month and as long as my sites are up and running, it’s all good.

ThirdSphere has a unique control panel interface though, and while I have never had any problems finding my way around in there… it’s not “cpanel”. The more work I outsource, the more I find/hear that cpanel makes their lives much easier. And I agree – cpanel is definitely my preference too.

So I’m moving some sites around, from ThirdSphere to HostGator. I already have one account with them, and I am tempted to leave it as-is and open a couple of new accounts. I’m undecided on that point. I think I want to separate my two primary sites (which are both resource hogs) and then put my niche affiliate sites together on their own account.

But I’m undecided because it may just be beneficial to lump them all together, and then upgrade to a dedicated server at some point (probably sooner than later). HostGator offers reseller accounts and dedicated servers, so that’s definitely an option…

I better quit blogging and get busy

Best,

I use a variety of web hosts myself (some cheap, some not-so-cheap), each for their own reason, and am looking seriously at V7inc for my next account. What do YOU look for in web hosting… and is price one of the major factors when making the final decision?

I was surfing around the V7 Network today and came across their cPanel Hosting services. I found it interesting that their pricing plans are almost double what I am currently paying, but it brought up a good question:

When you are looking for a web hosting provider, is pricing your main concern?

When it comes to web hosting, most people prefer and recommend a host that offers cPanel. It is a feature-rich Control Panel that offers one-click applications that are incredibly easy to use. Once you get familiar with cPanel, it is a feature you look for in any web hosting company that you do business with.

But across all of the web hosts that offer cPanel… it seems that most compete by price. Granted, this is a smart tactic for hosting providers that target the ‘newbie market’, as they are probably more concerned with price than with features they arent yet familiar with.

Being a big fan of the V7 Network, I decided to read on. They make no qualms about their pricing structure, and in fact that state upfront that V7inc is not for everyone:

V7 was founded on the principle of spare-no-expense and provide the best hosting possible. This means we do not compete price-wise with the majority of web hosts out there.

And if you read through their testimonials, you’ll find that even Aaron Wall (SEObook.com) uses V7inc for at least two of his own sites. If you’re familiar with Aaron, that in itself is a very high recommendation.

Would I pay more for quality web hosting? Absolutely! I’ve been in the business long enough to know just what downtime and poor support can cost. Would I recommend it to someone that was completely new to online business and working on their first website? Probably not – you can get your feet wet on a good lower-priced web host like HostGator.

I use a variety of web hosts myself (some cheap, some not-so-cheap), each for their own reason, and am looking seriously at V7inc for my next account. What do YOU look for in web hosting… and is price one of the major factors when making the final decision?

Best,

Wiki Upload is offering Free File Hosting for your media files, including: video, audio, mp3/music, images and more. You can upload up to 5 gigs worth of media files absolutely free!

Once you upload your files, you will be given a link to use wherever you like. This is great for people who want to share large files via email, or post videos and audio clips on their MySpace profile. You can even use it to share media files in posts on discussion forums or anywhere that you would like to share large files without paying for hosting.

Plans are to increase the available disk space, and also to rank files based on popularity to showcase the best contributions. Obviously the more traffic & uploads they get, the more they will be able to offer…

If you already have files on YouTube, Flickr etc, you may consider also adding them to Wiki Upload!

No matter what kind of work-at-home opportunity you choose, you will need some type of web presence in order to properly market yourself or your products online. Whether you are involved in Network Marketing, developing Affiliate Sites, promoting your own products, or marketing your service-based business – the first question when starting out is:

How do I create my website?

There are so many options that it can be overwhelming to figure out where to start. Should I hire a web designer? What would I expect to pay? How do I know who to hire? What will the website do for me?

A good web designer will sit down with you and develop both a website and marketing plan, based on your most general thoughts and questions. They will know what you should be asking, and will outline all of the details that you might not have even considered.

Unfortunately, since you dont know these details upfront, you have no way of knowing if you are working with a professional… or someone who just has basic knowledge of website design and “a package” to sell you.

Note: GOOD web designers know that they can earn far more developing their own websites (monetizing them with advertising or affiliate programs) than they can by charging you for their service. This leaves you weeding out those who love to make money upfront regardless of the results… from the designers who truly love design work. Your best bet is to work with web designers that are personally recommended to you, and to get quotes and information from several developers or companies.

Should I design my own website?

This is certainly an option that you should seriously consider. It’s much easier than you think, and you will benefit in the long run from having the basic knowledge and experience. Being involved in the development of your website, and in your marketing plan, means that you have more control over the results.

If you want to make a change, you’ll know how to do that. If you decide to add a new page to your site, no problem. While you can always outsource these tasks, or any specific piece of your web development project, it is nice to be able to go in and make simple changes or additions when necessary.

Where do I start?

The absolute easiest and least expensive way to develop your own website is to use a template. You can get very nice templates at www.BasicTemplates.com for around $12. For that price you will get the graphics and the web page, and you can use this template to create each page of your website.

Since you probably dont ‘know code’, you will need an HTML Editor to edit the template and add your own content to each page. You can download NVU (a free editor) at www.NVU.com. If you can use Word, or create fancy emails, then you can use the NVU program – it’s just as simple .

A popular solution to creating optimized websites easily is XSitePro. This program is affordable, easy to use, and gets highly positive reviews from newbies and seasoned professionals alike. Click here for more information…

I made a website… Now what?

Your next step is to put your new website on the web so that other people can see it. You will need a domain name (www dot something dot com), which will be the “address” of your website. You can register a domain name for $8.95 at www.GoDaddy.com. You want to choose something that describes your website or business, and that is easy to say and spell. It may take you awhile to find a domain name that is not already taken, but dont give up – get creative!

Once your domain is registered, you will need a hosting account. This is where you upload your files (your website and your images) and where your online business will be ‘hosted’. I use and recommend HostGator, simply because they have tons of great features at a very low price – under $10.

With your HostGator account, you will get access to features such as: shopping carts, email accounts, blogs, forums, guestbooks, traffic statistics and much more. They even allow you to host multiple websites and domains on the one account, all for the same price.

Once you sign up with HostGator, simply log in and read through the information that they offer. They will show you how to upload your files to your new account, how to set up your email addresses, and anything else that you need to know.

If you have any questions along the way, whether it is about hiring a web designer or creating your own website, join us at the Discussion Forum. You can ask the most basic questions, get your new website reviewed by professionals, or learn the best internet marketing techniques. Its free and easy to register at the forum, and the members are very friendly and resourceful. I’ll see you there!

Most hosting companies offer the osCommerce shopping cart free with their web hosting packages. I know that ThirdSphere and HostGator do, and I assume most of the major hosting companies offer it as well.

osCommerce is an open-source shopping cart script which enables you to create an online store and fully customize it. Of course, that’s easier said than done for most people – and custom programming and template designs can get pricey…

Installation is simple – especially if your host offers Fantastico like the two mentioned above. You simply click the Fantastico icon, choose osCommerce, and click New Installation. That screen will also give you details that are related to the script and installation:

Short description: A power-user shopping cart with a big variety of modules and support of almost every payment gateway. A big developers community is ready to offer custom solutions depending on your needs.
Homepage: http://oscommerce.com/

OS Commerce support forum
(We are not associated with the support forum)

New Installation (2.2 MS2 (051113))
Disk space required: 5.34 MB
Disk space available: 4975.5 MB

But once you get it installed, it’s time to customize your new store and give it a unique look and feel. This is where most people run into problems.

A great solution – and especially so if you are developing multiple stores on the internet – is to use The osCommerce Cafe. For only $89 you can access their entire library of custom osCommerce templates, as well as their support & knowledge base.

The ‘cafe’ was set-up by Myles O’Reilly in March of this year. Myles is also the author of the popular book titled The Programmers’ Guide to osCommerce. Another good resource you may want to add to your collection if you are going this route!

You’ll be able to download as many osCommerce templates as you like, which is a great deal if you need several. Since you can get the actual script free through your host (or download it free from other sites), this creates a great all-in-one solution for professional looking e-stores.

They also have an affiliate program which pays 25% per referral – which I am off to sign up for myself

Most people will ask for user reviews and recommendations in the popular discussion forums when they are choosing a new web hosting company, but experiences and information there can be conflicting. But today I ran across an awesome resource to help you compare real data between popular hosts...

I mentioned a web hosting comparison site the other day that compares features and specs from various web hosts. Its a great resource… but all said and done you only have the details that each host already gives on their own websites – conveniently all in one place though, of course, which makes it great for quick comparisons.

But how accurate or complete is that information… and is it ALL you need to know in order to choose the right host for your projects? Most people will ask for user reviews and recommendations in the popular discussion forums, but experiences and information there can be conflicting…

But today I ran across another really cool resource to add to your bookmarks: www.realmetrics.com. This site publishes real performance data on various hosting companies…

By performing over 110,000 tests per day against real accounts established with each provider, RealMetrics is able to publish objective reliability, speed, and customer service reports you can trust.

This is how information is gathered for Shared Hosting accounts:

Peak Uptime – Measured every 30 seconds by our monitoring stations checking if a simple web page can be loaded from an account established with the provider. Only includes data from 7:00a-7:00p CST Mon-Fri. Higher is better.

Uptime – Measured every 30 seconds by our monitoring stations checking if a simple web page can be loaded from an account established with the provider. Higher is better.

Web Speed Index – Measured every 30 minutes by averaging the speed at which our monitoring stations can download web pages and images from an account established with the provider. Higher is better.

Support Response Time – Measured by sending tier one support questions to the provider’s ticketing system or support email address and measuring the time to respond to the questions with real answers.

Check it out: www.realmetrics.com – you may find this incredibly useful when you’re choosing your next web host
