New: The ClickNewz Podcast

Thanks to this excellent how-to article on Mashable.com you can now listen to the content here at ClickNewz on the web, via iTunes or on your favorite media player.

You'll notice a new "Listen Now" button at the top of each post. Click that button to view all of your options, or click here to see the ClickNewz Podcast page.

The ClickNewz Podcast is powered by Odiogo, which allows you to easily turn your blog posts into podcasts through a simple plugin. It takes less than five minutes to set up and adds a whole new set of features to your blog!

Enjoy πŸ˜€

Note: The service is completely automated, so you'll notice that the voice is a bit robotic. The developers are working on adding new voices - both male and female - with different accents.

    Thanks

  3. Owwwwww, nice find!!!, now I can write a blog post telling myself I'm great, then listen to a robot tell me just how great I think I am, this is great for moral and my own ego!!.;) Thanks Lynn!!!!.

  4. Jeff and Sandy says

Thanks for this great post and resource.
You always seem to come up with the most amazing things for us.

I haven't started my own blog yet, but with this
new audio thingy, it'll add just the right touch to get it off the ground more successfully

    Thanks again Lynn,

Lynn, I saw this on Mashable and you have given me the inspiration to give it a try! Accents like...southern drawl? Might be fun!

  6. Hmmm. Sounds interesting. Will have to check it out.

  7. Steve Solem says

    Hey Lynn,

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure I could listen to too many posts read like this.

I wonder how this would work the opposite way - recording an audio in your own voice, then using http:/www.jott.com to transcribe and post to a blog? I'm going to have to try that myself.

    Thanks for the good find!

    Steve

  8. Terry, I love Odiogo. I can listen to blog posts while I do the mundane tasks like organizing my favorites or when I'm just too tired (or lazy) to read.
Hope you had a great ThanksGiving.

  9. This is a pretty neat tool. It saves you from having to manually record each post. I'll have to check this one out.

  10. Steve,

I love the idea of using Jott to transcribe a blog! Thanks for the idea!

    Natalie

  11. This is pretty cool and the robotic voice does much better with inflections than ones that I've heard in the past. I'm going to have to try it! Thanks for sharing!

  12. @TraciKnoppe says

How absolutely awesome! I have added this to my web site. Thanks for passing on this tool.

  13. This is so cool. I will definately be using this for my blog. Thanks for sharing this Lynn.

  14. Very, very cool!

I can see this as a great addition to a site, especially for those who may be visually impaired.

  15. Ah! Just read the Mashable article after I posted.

This is very, very cool, indeed. My sister in law works with a local non-profit and quite a few of the people they serve are visually impaired.

Not all the people they serve have internet access, although many use the library computers.

In setting up a blog for the non-profit, and adding this plugin, it will be a great way for the non-profit to keep those people updated with the information that they'll be able to listen to.

  16. Another great tip from click n eee double u zee

    Thanks Lynn

  17. LOL Gord - I thought that was pretty funny too πŸ™‚

  18. Judith Stephens says

Wow. Love it! Installed it. My site reads out loud! πŸ™‚

Thanks for the heads up Lynn. What a great tool.

  19. I added Odiogo feature to my blog and published a post about it in 'blog traffic 101' series on my blog 2 months ago. It works great. My readers are happy to have options like subscribing to podcasts thru rss and even download as iTunes or mp3. Its absolutely brilliant.

  20. Bakugan Battle Brawlers Pack says

Wow. That is a cool feature indeed. Be good to target people who likes to listen rather than read.

  21. Alex Newell says

    Marvellous,

I absolutely love it, thanks for the "heads up"!

  22. Melissa Ingold says

How cool is that? LOL! Gonna have to bookmark to check that out for my own blog.

  23. PARAM ESWARAN says

KNOWINGLY OR unknowingly you have contributed to the healthy eyes, as users will hear rather than read the blogs etc

It's not exactly new to the 'net, but always good to see people try things new to them. πŸ™‚

I wouldn't personally for 2 reasons....the voice, and the fact that it actually spells some words; am I the only one this annoys? LOL

    • Jacques | E-mail Campaign says

Hiya Dennis, fancy seeing you here! I am in the same boat as you regarding "the voice", and I feel that the current trend towards video is ultimately going to make podcasts redundant to quite a large extent. What do you think?

  25. Robert Nelson says

Thanks Lynn. Hope they improve the voice quickly. As the detractors have noted "it isn't new" so what ! It is a mostly painless install(or put another way almost plug and play)that actually works when the last step is taken, also no "Fatal Errors". Either of which hasn't always been the outcome for a wp-plugin.

Lastly it could help improve the quality of the posts

  26. Jean Mandel says

Lynn, thanks for sharing the new tool. I visited another website today that was using it.

  27. I think it's got great potential. Funny, though that it spells some things out - your blog is "Click-n-e-w-z". πŸ™‚

  28. Great site! I added it to my site too.

  29. Cool little tool. Thanks.

However, I put it on my blog and have a couple problems. I changed my RSS setting as the instructions said to "full text" but my listen button only plays a snippet.

I emailed them and they emailed back and said my feed was only displaying snippets. I use feedburner so I thought the problem must be there, but I looked around in my feedburner account and can't find a place that addresses this.

Has anyone had this problem or now how I can resolve it?

The other problem is that the widget only dispalys on the home page and in the blog posts. It doesn't display on any of my other pages.

    Thanks
    πŸ™‚

  30. You can disregard my previous message as I've resolved the situation. Just in case someone else has this problem, I'll share my solution.

I had changed my RSS setting in WP to "full text" after I had activated the plugin. Apparently that was the problem, because I deactivated the plugin and the reactivated and now it is working fine.

I also notice a little quirk people need to be aware of. If you don't have a period at the end of your sentence, the speaker will keep reading the next sentence as if they are one. So it looks like you must be very careful with punctuation, because the punctuation is a guide for the bot to pause.

    πŸ™‚

  31. Hi Lynn,

I've been following your work for some time now and just love it!

Odiogo widget is fantastic - looking forward to hearing the different accents. If they need a London, England female accent, I'm up for the job!!!

(I'm so hooked on your blog I've just spent the last 3 hours catching up on missed posts! πŸ™‚

  32. Thank you Desiree & Welcome πŸ˜€

Cynthia - I agree about the punctuation. I noticed that it doesnt handle my lack of apostrophe's very well either!

As a side note, it'd be cool if it read the comments to you as well...
