NAMS Recap: Affiliate Marketing Workshop

The Niche Affiliate Marketing Workshop was an incredible experience. This was the 2nd "NAMS" event and it took place in Atlanta this past weekend, August 14-17.

The goal of this workshop is to teach Affiliate Marketing and specific marketing strategies in a hands-on workshop format, with a chance for everyone to complete tasks and see results.

It also gives you an opportunity to meet Affiliate Marketers that are doing this for a living, and talk with them one on one. There is a lot of open networking between instructors and attendees, which makes this a very unique event.

For me personally, it's great to get that time to sit down with people - in person - and really help them get started with their own affiliate sites. I was able to share specific examples, marketing strategies that are working very well for me, and to brainstorm ideas on the micro-level.

I absolutely love teaching all of these things online through my forum, and through my weekly webinars, but spending the weekend working hands-on with everyone was absolutely incredible!

At NAMS, you don't just learn how, you actually get to put it into practice. Chris Cobb was able to achieve a top 10 ranking on Google within 20 minutes, which was still holding strong the next day. A whole slew of content was written - from articles for Article Marketing to short reports to generate subscribers & income. And there were others there that made their very first affiliate sales over the weekend. It was very inspiring - and tons of fun.

We had a bit of a slow start on Friday, but it was a whole new set-up from the first NAMS Workshop and we were playing it by ear. Fortunately everyone was very open with their feedback, and all of the instructors pulled together and made necessary changes. Most of us completely re-wrote our presentations on the fly even, and went out of our way to make sure everyone got what they needed. The teamwork among the instructors was simply amazing.

I was really glad that everyone voiced their thoughts on Friday. We sat up late that evening discussing details and brainstorming solutions. To everyone that spoke to me personally, or that submitted the feedback form, thank you. It was that feedback that really brought things together, and had everyone super productive throughout the weekend - leaving with a big smile, looking forward to returning to the next NAMS Workshop in January. What a turn-around!

One of the things that I enjoyed most throughout the weekend, was all of the PROOF IN ACTION.

On Saturday I participated in a live recording where we discussed product creation. Our topic was "Create Your Own Product in 90 Minutes", and our focus was on creating audio products. David Perdew led the session, and I got a seat on the panel alongside Cindy Dawson, Mark Hendricks and Jeff Herring. We didn't know the topic until we were sitting on the panel, so there was absolutely no preparation on our part... and David recorded the session live. We literally created that product in under 90 minutes. Point made!

During my presentation on Sunday afternoon, I shared specific strategies for leveraging your competition. I set the presentation up by allowing them to leverage me, and actually make affiliate sales while I was teaching.

I also really liked what Joe Marsh taught on getting to the front page of Google results - fast. And by the way, the keyword phrase that Chris Cobb used when she tried Joe's method, was a competitive 2-word phrase with more than 5,000 searches per month. It was a solid strategy, and I think it really amazed everyone to see it in action when Chris applied it.

All of the instructors shared specific examples, showed exactly how it could be applied to various niches, and freely gave out ideas. What made it even more fun is that everyone there openly asked questions, got involved, and allowed us to help them even more by telling us exactly what they needed.

Of course, I can't go without mentioning Michael Schultz, who we all called "Magic Myke" by the end of the weekend. Michael is only 16 years old, a total whiz kid - and was absolutely amazing as tech support throughout the workshop. Michael, thank you - I couldn't have done my part without you, and you contributed so much to the event.

A special thanks to his super-cool mom Julie Anna as well, for trusting us with him for the weekend - you're a gem! πŸ˜‰ We really missed you at NAMS-2 and look forward to seeing you at the next workshop.

Michael has done a lot of work for me, including website design with matching business cards. For those of you that saw my card over the weekend, that was Michael's work. You'll find his site at

Michael and Julie Anna are both Elite Members in my private brainstorming group. We are currently celebrating close to 3 years as a group. There are members on all skill levels, working in a wide variety of niches and business models, with a lot of products & profit coming out of the group. Amazing!

I also want to say a special thanks to Nicole Dean, Traci Knoppe, Suzanna Myers and the other Elite Members who volunteered their time & expertise during the workshop to help others get up to speed with their online business - thank you! πŸ˜€

There were a couple dozen Elite Members from my group at the NAMS Workshop, so we got a chance to hang out after hours and really get to know each other on a whole new level.

I held a private reception for them on Saturday night where we did a bit of brainstorming over cheesecake & chocolate. That was also when I made a fun special announcement that everyone seemed particularly happy about... πŸ˜€

The picture below is a group of us that stayed over and had lunch together on Monday following the workshop. Let's see if I can get this right just one more time (ha!) - Left to right you see me, Mary, Andrea, Mike, Adela, Sheila, Lisa, Glenn and Loretta.

All said and done, this was one event that was well worth attending. Everyone left with something of value, speakers and attendees alike, and I think we all had a fabulous time. I am already looking forward to the 3rd NAMS Workshop, and expect we'll have even more success stories by then - and even more people joining in to start or grow their affiliate business.

p.s. The next NAMS Workshop will be held in Jan/Feb 2010, and you can secure your ticket at the early-bird rate if you register early. You'll also have an opportunity to download the recording of the NAMS-2 event. There is a support link at the bottom of that page if you'd like to inquire about that.

We'd love to see you there! πŸ˜‰

Very cool Lynn. Sounds like it was a great time. If there is a NAMS next August, I'll definitely try and make that one...after all...Cheesecake and Chocolate are a strong motivator...:)Thanks again for posting this. Take care and all the best.

    • I believe the 3rd Workshop will be in January or February - David plans to put this on twice a year. Would be great to see you at one of the NAMS events in 2010!

      • Erin aka netkickstart says

Awww, I see it's still in Atlanta. Come to the Northeast! πŸ™‚

        • LOL - Talk to David Perdew, it's his gig πŸ˜‰

        • Erin,

There aren't a lot of opportunities to "learn" internet marketing from Experts. There are tons of conferences and meetings and hotel seminars, but most are put on by professionals who make their living selling their "system" -whatever that system is.

NAMS is like a giant mastermind weekend, where presenters and attendees alike share ideas, try new ones on the spot and help each other learn.

Compile all your current internet marketing questions, woes, and concerns and bring them with you. I guarantee that you'll not only solve them all but you'll learn 20x more stuff than you could possibly have thought of.

If there was a winning lottery ticket in Atlanta, Georgia with your name on it, would you find a way to pick it up? Think about that, NAMS 3 could easily change your life as much as winning the lottery.

I hope you can make it. If you're a regular reader of ClickNewz, I can't afford to have you miss NAMS 3 and leave all that knowledge in the northeast. In fact, there's so many varied experiences, I bet even Lynn learns a thing or two. πŸ™‚

          • Absolutely!! πŸ˜‰ In fact I am back home now putting it all into action, and already seeing a return!

          • Erin aka netkickstart says

RE: "I can't afford to have you miss NAMS 3 and leave all that knowledge in the northeast."

Very kind of you. FYI: I registered last night. Looking forward to meeting Lynn and the rest of the Elite members.

        • I'm reading πŸ™‚

Let me get this perfected before I start dragging truckloads of equipment all over the country. By the way, we're probably looking at 3 or 4 NAMS in 2011... 2 in ATL and 2 elsewhere...

  2. What fun! I really enjoyed reading about NAMS. It's not looking promising that I'll be able to attend the one in Jan. although you never know but please say there will be another next summer because I hope to plan for that one. Looking forward to listening to the recording about creating a product in 90 minutes. Sounds great!

Oh and I can't wait to hear about the special announcement!

    • I am working on that now - will post it in the private forum.

There should be 2 workshops in 2010, every 6 months I believe. And hopefully we'll get a chance to see each other again before summer! We'll work on that πŸ˜‰

  3. Kristen Arnold says

That's it, I'm not missing another NAMS- I'm booking it now πŸ™‚

    • Awesome - it will be great to see you there!! The workshop itself was terrific, but getting to hang out with a group of Elite Members made it 10x more fun! Looking forward to NAMS 3 πŸ˜€

  4. I am in for NAMS 3 also. Cant wait. Ive been watching all the NAMS Tweets. Sounded like so much fun!!

  5. Anita Hampl says

Thank you for recommending the NAMS 2 workshop to us! Your endorsement of David Perdew's integrity is what sold me, and I was not at all disappointed.

This event exceeded my expectations as to the availability of instructors and speakers to talk to us in the hallways, help with questions, share pitfalls. They were so helpful, on stage and in the restaurant!

Coolest and most surprising was the spontaneous idea-generation among people. Ideas were popping all over the place and I believe many of them will result in increased business for many of us.

Gary Huff and I randomly sat together and began chatting about one of his business partners, who happens to be his mother. I blurted out "Monetize your Mom!" and he said, "That'd be a great domain name." I raced him to grab it (I won) and someday it will fit in with one of my real passions, (details later).

There were several college educators there and they found commonality with people who work with brain training, test prep, etc. It will be fun to see what grows from that.

Aileen Bennett,, inspired me to overcome a (minor) aversion I've had for years, which was cool.

AND our own Loretta Oliver of met and bonded with Nicole Dean and snagged Nicole to guest write on her blog this week! What a coup, so Loretta could sleep in after her flight (j/k). Check it out!

It was a treat to meet you in person. Happy I had lunch with you before all the rest of the crowd realized how cool and real you are.

  6. Just looked at the NAMS page and it says you can register for only $197 if you sign up before August 31. Awesome deal! There are videos and more details there as well:

  7. Chris Cobb says

I was a total newbie when I went to NAMS1. Because of the people I met there and the incredible education I received, NAMS2 was that much more valuable. Now I have MORE friends and MORE education and convinced that the next 6 months will propel me to the advanced class at NAMS3.

Lynn--Thanks for being a part of my education and being my friend!

    • You rock, Chris! You set such a great example for everyone at NAMS by taking action and sharing proof. Even I was making notes on that one!! πŸ˜€

      Looking forward to our interview!

  8. Michael Schultz says

I really enjoyed it, I can't wait to be there in 2010 πŸ™‚

Thanks for making the event special to everyone there Lynn!

    • You're awesome - I'm so glad you decided to go, and made it happen. You have helped me so much in the last couple of months. I appreciate you!

      • By the way, Michael is now NAMS technologist in residence πŸ™‚ That makes him the NAMSTIR

        • Michael Schultz says

I think I like that better than Magic Myke πŸ˜€

Knowing people, my name will end up being "Magic Myke the NAMSTIR"...LOL!

Seriously though, it is my pleasure to be there and to experience the REAL magic of knowledge being shared both in the workshops and in the networking groups. I cannot wait for NAMS3! Thanks David.

  9. Hollye Clardy says

It truly was a great experience and I am sooooo looking forward to the next one! I learned a lot.

  10. Had a great time this weekend, and I learned a lot. Also reviewed a few things I already knew, which was good, because I got a better grip on them so I can focus better!

Thank you everyone for a great weekend. I'm already looking at my schedule to see if I'll be able to attend the next NAMS. This was such a motivating and educational experience.

    • I agree Retta - I came home feeling motivated & inspired too. And there were a lot of things that I knew... but just hadn't considered doing, or doing in that way - I walked away with a mile long to do list myself LOL. Very excited to be home (where the internet stays connected! ha) and putting it all into action...

  11. Nicole Dean says

    Hey Guys -

NAMS3 will be on Jan. 29, 2010 in Atlanta, according to the sales page.

It was an amazing experience and I'm hooked, too! See you all then. πŸ™‚

  12. Aileen Bennett says

I enjoyed hanging out with you again, it's always such a pleasure. The inspiration is mutual!

    • I loved the points you made on making & breaking habits. Your entire message really hit home with me, and inspired me to be the best version of myself. I know exactly who I am and what I'm made of, but now I'm getting a better vision of how to best present that. Still can't exactly put it into words, but just know that I know what I'm talking about (lol)... You're a gem πŸ˜€

  13. Regina Baker says

NAMS was a fabulous event! Meeting you in person Lynn (for me...) was the highlight of the event. The highlight of the event was the opportunity to meet so many of my friends in person as well as connecting with new friends.

I really can't say what's different about you online or in person because you have the same positive attitude, personality, generosity and sincere devotion to teaching others offline as you do online! That speaks volumes. Thank you for the 1st class (elite members) reception, the cheese cake was yummy! and for the opportunity to chat... you're an awesome Lady.

    • Thank you, Regina πŸ˜€

That cheesecake WAS yummy! I so enjoyed having that opportunity to meet with Elite Members behind close doors, and just wind down & brainstorm for a bit. Nothing like cheesecake & chocolate to really bring a group together πŸ˜‰

I appreciate your kind words. I'm also reading between the lines there... "she's just as goofy and dorky in person as she is online!" haha - So glad you came to NAMS!

  14. Bob The Teacher says

    Hey Lynn,
This was the 1 event I was looking forward to going to all year, but my trip to Poland prevented me from being there.

The thought of missing such a great format for a workshop, hanging out with you, Nicole, and so many other great people, and meeting new people I could help out in that setting makes me say ARRRGGGGHH.

But nevertheless, I will be there in January (just off the marketers cruise), and can't wait!

    Bob Jenkins

p.s. I've blogged about my ideal workshop, and would love you to share how closely it matches to what NAMS 2 was.

    • You practically described NAMS to the last detail. It's not easy to pull off, but it's a work in progress. NAMS2 was a huge improvement from NAMS1, and NAMS3 is going to absolutely rock. There are a lot of good people behind it, that want nothing more than to see it grow & improve.

I really look forward to seeing you there in January!

  15. It looks like a very unique and very much so needed event. So much learning and networking and fun.

  16. I am so excited to come in January. I wanted so much to be there this time but just could swing it! I will be registering before the 31st of this month to make sure I go!!

  17. For those of you who missed out don't miss NAMS 3. I was glad to have made it to be able to re-connect with old friends like Magic Mike, Natalie, and Brotha Dan Morris as well as establish new ones. As usual the networking was great, one of the kind knowledgeable and caring teachers like Lynn and the others, and the people were just GREAT! Although, I will say the internet connection was a pain in the ass(ets) but Dave nonetheless did a real good job. Thanks for all you do for us Lynn and God Bless You.
