Each month Darren Rowse of Problogger.net starts a Group Writing Project. This month the theme for the Writing Project is "Top 5". See Top 5 Group Writing Project for all the details.
In keeping with the current theme, I'm going to give you the top five reasons why you should participate in Darren's writing projects at Problogger...
Top 5 Reasons to Participate in Probloggers Group Writing Projects
- 1. Unique Content
Darren proposes a theme and then encourages bloggers to use their creativity to write their own thoughts on the topic. In addition to being entered to win the prizes offered, you are adding a page of quality unique content to your blog. We all struggle with "something to blog about" from time to time... so participate in these writing projects to kick-start a creative writing flow...
Write it in any style you like, a rant, list, poem, essay, video, pictorial, haiku, podcast….. anything.
- 2. Huge Networking Potential
Hundreds of bloggers participate in the Group Writing Projects at Problogger.net, and most of them get fully in to the event. They surf through the entries, comment on each others creative posts, find new people to blogroll, etc - it turns into a mini networking event! Some have reported great spikes in traffic and landing on the front page of Digg as a result of participating in these projects.
- 3. Free One-Way Links
In addition to connecting with new bloggers and gaining new readers, you'll get at least two links to you blog - if not a whole slew! Darren himself will post two links to your blog post at Problogger (in addition to the trackback link in the comments section of the project post), and many of his readers are known to showcase their favorite entries on their own blogs. In fact, Darren encourages ALL participants to "share the link love"...
Probably the best part of the last group project was the amount of inter-linking I see happening between participating bloggers as a result of their posts. It’s obvious that people found new blogs through it and that the benefits of participating was way beyond getting a link from me but flowed on to a lot of new connections and links between other bloggers.
- 4. Be Part Of Something FUN
I've always said "dont be the lone blogger." This is your chance to get involved with something fun and interesting, and meet new people in the blogosphere. In addition to the linking linking benefits of joining in and networking with the other participants, it's a FUN project to get involved with!
- 5. Win Prizes & Money, Of Course!
Last but certainly not least, participating in the Group Writing Projects gives you a chance to win prizes and/or cash money! This month the prize is $1001 cash, sponsored by Chitika. If you're going to blog anyway, why not go with the theme and have the chance at putting a thousand bucks in your pocket, right? 😉
There is still plenty of time to join the current Group Writing Project at Problogger. If you get your post completed and entered before the end of the day today (Thursday, May 10th 2007), you can still reap all of the benefits mentioned above.
So what are you waiting for?! Go post your Top 5!
Best,

Great post Lynn! It's my first time participating in one of the group writing projects. So far so good...
Thank you, Neal 🙂
I really enjoyed participating myself - it was my first time doing the Group Writing Project as well. I'm already looking forward to the next one!
