Hi everyone,

Please, I urgently need some advice.

I have been slowly building up my website's www.Hungarian-Cuisine.com Facebook Page and much to my
great surprise I have noticed that there is another domain registered with the name of https://www.facebook.com/HungarianCuisineLtd in England.

When I do a search on Google, my site is listed on the first page. The site with the ltd is not.

My question is, am I infringing on their name? Should I change the name of my website since its name is too close to theirs?

I only have about 68 pages so far and willing to do the work but at a loss as to what to name my new site.
I was just about to start to monetize my site but very concerned to do so given what I have just learned.

Please, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Val

Well, according to my knowledge you have every right to own a domain name even if there is another business with a similar name. No one can monopolize an entire country as the only providers of a service as popular as food and cuisine.

Hi Val,

You'll simply need to see if the name is registered or trademarked. If it is not, there is no legal reason to change your domain name. If it is, then you should. If you do change your domain, choose one without a hyphen this time. ;-) I should think it would be hard to trademark "Hungarian Cuisine" though as it's a topic - not a brand name or something that (I assume) could easily be protected in that way.

My advice: do a quick check, then start monetizing and carry on. :)

Hi Trent and Lynn

Thanks for your quick reply.

Given all the above and that google seem to think when people type in Hungarian cuisine they are looking for restaurants, I registered a new domain name "MyEthnicKitchen.com" (no hyphens :) and plan to transfer all the content under the new domain name. This will, I believe, give me a wider options about writing content about other ethnic foods but most importantly, a greater monetization opportunity.

I hired someone to do a complete redesign and to move my site under the new domain name. Since I only have about 60 pages, its better to do it now and before I start to monetize the site.

Thanks,

Val
