Hello everyone:

I am looking into possibly getting back into affiliate marketing again, but I am wondering a few things. First off, do you really have to have a web site, hosting and be able to blog? I know that now a days, relying on SEO is not the greatest method as Google keeps delisting stuff. I would rather not have to spend affiliate fees if at all possible to market stuff and want to start with physical products for the time being. I know the payout wouldn't be much to start with, but I would possibly like to start somewhere.

This is a good starting point for brainstorming:

These days you really do need a blog, and social media - and to build up a readership and a following - to do well with affiliate marketing. You want to choose a topic you can really get into and enjoy, and become an "influencer", basically helping people making smart buying decisions.

Hi,
Have you thought of been an affiliate for eBay? Did you know that they have an affiliate program?
As far as I am aware it is free to join. I wouldn't recommend Amazon because the affiliate commissions are very low.
Why don't you have a Facebook page to start with and just add some interesting items and every so often put in an offer that the followers of your page may find interesting. You could also promote your products to groups on Facebook as well. Doing it this way you wouldn't need a website. I would recommend cloaking your affiliate links first so people don't steel your commissions.

Just a thought. Russ

Welcome to the ClickNewz forum, Russ! :)

I don't recommend using a shortener/cloaking service or program. See: http://www.clicknewz.com/9560/url-shortener/ (for 8 GOOD reasons not to, and an easy way to "cloak" your own links).

Just wanted to toss that in there as something to consider. ;-)

Thanks Lynn, Great to be here.
I know what you mean about link shorteners, they can seam spammey and not very secure. I have a Review blog that I have just built with my mentor, and I cloak my links using a WordPress plugin on my site. Works brilliantly, especially for newbies like me.

Check out the link I gave you above, though. You may want to use a different method after you read that. :)

Thanks Lynn for the advice.
I've just read your article.
It does make perfect sense.
I will certainly look into changing a few things.
