Hey All,

My name is Ian Welsh, I am 28 years of age, from Melbourne Australia. I have 4 very young children, I also have a medical condition called paranoid schizophrenia.

I really want to do well at this whole internet marketing thing. I just have no idea what I am doing to be honest.

As the title suggests, I have been in the internet marketing game for a whole week now, and I could use all of the advice I can get. I don't know if I am allowed to put my sites link here or not so I will leave it out as it is in my screen name anyway.

I have so many questions. 1st of all is it possible to make money with an amazon associate website ? What improvements can I make to my site to make it convert better... or at all. Is my chosen niche too competitive for a newbie like me ? What keywords/phrases should I be using to make my site more visible ? I come up position 1 for 1stopshop4u on google. But I highly doubt anyone is searching that search term so I doubt I will get any traffic from it. How do I get free traffic to my site ?

I am told this is a really friendly and helpful forum which is why I came here.

Thanks in advance,

Ian Welsh.

oh I have just deleted piece of writing on my site, as I was told by a friend that it is bland boring and the writing looked like I was a vegan trying to sell vegan cheese to a non vegan. Back to the drawing board I guess.

Welcome Ian :)

Tell me about your goals & objective for this website. Going by the domain name alone, it seems like a broad topic / store. Who is it for, and why should they visit your site?

Hey Lynn,

Thanks for your response, The site was about selling home theatre, laptops, macs, waterproof laptop backpacks and LCD TV's. But it was just an amazon associate account. After a lot of negative feedback from friends in my inner circle I decided to delete the site. They were saying things like "Ian, if I want something from Amazon.com I will just goto Amazon.com" And "That it is bland boring and the writing looked like I was a vegan trying to sell vegan cheese to a non vegan."

Ah - I just asked that on another thread, so now I know where you are on things. :)

What concerns you most? What do you feel you need the most help with?

I'd be interested to learn which markets you are targeting with these sites.

Hi Charmaine,

Both are very general and very competitive. I recommend you choose something that you are personally passionate about and/or have personal experience with, and something with a more specific target market. General shopping sites are tough because most people will just go straight to the source. I shop directly from Amazon (almost daily, lol) for example.
