OK so now that I have my domain names bought (Godaddy)and have hosting in place with Hostgator, can anyone help me to get my sites migrated? I have the nameserver nos. but one question I have is having multiple sites, do they both use the same numbers? I know it takes awhile for it all to propagate but I'm a bit lost at this point and need help out of the fog. I've heard Hostgator has good support just thought I could save some time here.
One is on Blogger and the other on a free WPD account.
Thanks,
Phil

HostGator will move your primary site for you to your new account for no charge (free). Since you can't really "move" a blogger blog, I would go with the WPD blog as your primary site for the HostGator account and see if they can move that over to WordPress on your new account. They are very helpful - use their 800# or online chat support.

If you have a full home directory backup of your site, then only HostGator can do a restore on that. Contact tech support and they can do this for you.

However, if you do not have a full home directory backup, then you could setup a new WordPress blog install on your site, and use the Import feature in WordPress to import your Blogger site and possibly your WPD as well.

If you need help on actually setting your nameservers at GoDaddy to point to HostGator; I have a free video tutorial to show you how to do that: http://genesisblogging.com/2009/01/how-to-set-up-hosting-set-nameservers/

thanks - Lynn and Traci!

I got the nameservers set and it's all good but still am lost on transfer and backup of the WPD blog and Blogger site. Wasn't able to follow the backup inst. on Hostgator's FAQ or find the myPHPadmin on WP Direct to do the backup let alone transfer or export the correct files.
Time for the 800# ???

You have a regular wp-admin/ login for your WPD site, in addition to the WPD login/admin area. So login there and click Tools > Export to export all your posts, pages, etc... for your WPD install; and then after you install your new WP, click Tools > Import to import the file you just exported from WPD.

Same principle for importing Blogger (Tools > Import > Blogger - and follow on the onscreen instructions).

The above method is not removing or deleting anything from its current/old locations; you're just creating an export file to import.

I would suggest, in the case of WPD, that you login via FTP and download all your site files to your computer (themes, plugins, and all the WP files) just in case you need them.

Also, you could also install a WP database backup plugin on the WPD site, to get a backup file of your database, in addition to the export file.

Cool!
I think I got it. That's exactly what I was trying to do but the download came as a xml file which confused me abit.
I'll work on it some more after I return from the dentist if I'm not in too much pain!
