View Full Version : Problem uploading a picture/avatar for SSWT Profile

Lynn,

I've attempted to upload two different photos for my profile picture but I'm getting the message that "upload failed". What's causing this issue?

Also, my Elite Member status is not reflected in my name because it is not in red.

Hi Iris
What are the dimensions of the picture you're trying to upload? I believe your profile picture can't be any larger than 100x100 pixels and the avatar for can't be any larger than 80x80 pixels. Could be if the image is much larger than that, the forum isn't able to resize it.

Also, I know there are some server-side issues with the host that Lynn mentioned on the Elite call today, so not sure if this is related to that or not.

I'm not sure of the dimensions of the photo but I opened Photoshop to try and resize but had no luck making those adjustments. I'll work at it a little later and see if I can get it to work.

It doesn't need to be exactly those dimensions - choose the longest side and make the longest side that dimension and the shortest side will be, well... shorter than that. ;)

Most programs will resize a photo proportionately so it doesn't look squished, so click Image > Image Size > Resample Image > Bicubic Sharper.

My photo is showing up when I click on "My Profile" but it's not appearing in my posts.

Your profile photo won't appear in your posts, only in your profile. You need to upload an avatar to appear in your posts. Look down further in your User CP in the left navigation for Edit Avatar to upload an avatar that shows in your posts.

I'm glad you got it figured out, too, Iris.

Actually, when I initially tried to upload my photo into both the avatar and the photo section, I also had difficulty getting it to show up.

It was because, as has been mentioned, the photo I was trying to upload was too large.

Since I don't have Photoshop and few skills in that area anyway, I'm going to throw out an online site I've found to resize photos.
