View Full Version : What good are article submitters?

If articles have to be altered for every single article site every time you submit it (to avoid the Google slap), what good are all those article submission services and software packages that submit your article to hundreds of article sites all at once?
I feel like I must be missing something here. . .

Which Google Slap are you referring to?
I don't use automated submitters. I submit my articles manually, or outsource the task. But I know some people do use them and like them. Personally, after trying a couple, I found it took me the same amount of time to do it manually.

Re: Google slap. I keep reading about duplicate content. I get that if you use an article as a post w/o any changes (or visa-versa), that Google will consider it duplicate content and that (I think) isn't cool. But maybe I'm over analyzing or reading crap on other forums again.
But the article thing has me stumped.
If I write an article, and submit it to ezine, can I use the exact same article, without any changes, to submit to another article site?
I've gotten absolutely opposite answers to that question from various sources.
Re: Article submission programs. If the articles have to be changed for each different network, how can these programs submit the articles to all these sites? Surely, they are not changing the articles???? Some of these programs claim to submit the article to hundreds of article sites.

I use Automatic Article Submitter. I did some posts about it here (an as of yet incomplete series).

Mark, next time you look at your stats and see somebody spending 90 minutes on your site at 4am MST, you'll know who it is.
Thanks for all you do.
Ps are you really in SE Asia? I envy you. It's been a year since my last visit.

Jeanette, there has been growing discussion that I've read regarding duplicate content. In short, the evil that is duplicate content is not as bad as previously thought. I know this sounds like it's contradicting the need to spin articles, but there's still value in doing them differently.
One reason to make them different is because article directories may check to see if the article is already submitted. That has more to do with them wanting to have UNIQUE content rather than being seen as having duplicate content in the eyes of the search engines. This way they add more value to their visitors. Otherwise, if they had everything that all the other directories had, then they're nothing more than a backlink directory. :)
I use the same article submission tool as Mark Mason and highly recommend it. But one of the cool things about it is that you can submit your articles semi-automatically, meaning that you click a button and it will take you to the next article directory in the queue (a list that you create) and it will automatically pre-populate the form for submission.
You are then required to "push the button" to make it actually submit. I prefer this method simply because I like to make sure things are in order.
Going to each directory separately and submitting them manually is perfectly fine. But it is the most time consuming activity when submitting your articles especially if you are submitting to many. Having an article submitter would help speed things up. :)

Lynn,
LOL I think we must have hit "submit reply" at the same time. I was worried there might be information that would make my comment wrong about there not being a penalty for duplicated content in the "normal" sense. :)

Good question Jeanette.
I tried to use an article submitter at one time but I found that like Lynn it was more trouble than it was worth. Maybe it was the submitter that I used, maybe it was my inexperience but at any rate I decided it was actually easier for me to submit the articles myself. (I think I also may have a little control issue too when it comes to my articles )
Over time I have developed some time saving tips for myself that seem to help me speed up the process of submitting the articles myself. So for me, since my current system is working I will keep at it like I am doing now.
Thanks for giving Lynn the inspiration for the duplicate copy post.
Thanks Lynn for helping to clear up the matter.
Being fairly new, it is easy to confused and not sure what to do when you hear so much about duplicate content from so many sources. Your post has made the most sense to me and I feel relieved that I actually may be doing some things right when it comes to this situation.
Have a wonderful afternoon,
Christine

Why, thank you, Lynn!
With my 'inquiring minds want to know' way of going about life in general, and my new found interest and ignorance about IM, AM, twitter, et al, I could keep you filled with inspiration for posts for decades.

You are welcome. Yep, I was in Taiwan and Korea. Great time -- and way too much food.

no such thing as "too much food" when it's authentic SE Asian food. I even had a good bowl of noodles in the Seoul, Korea airport once on a layover to Thailand. . . When airport food is good, you know it's gonna be a good foodie vacation.
I'm probably one of the few non-Asian girls to have a bottle of Kimchi in her fridge at this very moment.
Welcome back, and good luck with the jet lag.

I love cucumber kimchi. Zack's grandmother is Korean, and would make it for me often when he was little. That's where I learned my love for sushi too ;)

David, we're going to have to open your horizons a little.
Wanna see my pictures of when I ate a scorpion in Thailand? It's considered a local delicacy. In northern Thailand, they sell worms, scorpions, and other small bugs from street vendors, like NY hotdogs.
Before anybody pitches me out of the forum, I only ate one, it was a great photo op. And I grew up in NY - I'm not sure the hot dogs were any safer!

Jeantte, if you're serious, sure, I'd love to see that picture of you eating a scorpion. I'm a Andrew Zimmern fan, (Bizarre Foods) so that stuff doesn't bother. I'll private message my e-mail address.
I don't mind watching other people eat sushi, and other exotic delicacies. I just won't eat them myself.

Now THAT guy grosses me out. Anthony Bourdain - that's another choice entirely. He's one of the few celebrity foodies who I actually like and respect. He can cook, write, eat interesting food, curse like a sailor and looks great in jeans. If he'd give up smoking, I'd take him in a second (don't tell Jay). :)

I agree with Lynn... you would find that the time involved is pretty close whichever method you choose... be in manually, or with a submitter. Especially when you know what you want to say, and have practice saying it.
Quite a while back, I tried, and bought, many many many article submitters. After days of configuring them, signing up to all the article sites, and dealing with the frustration of some getting submitted and others not, I tossed them all.
I know, they will fill captchas, do automatic this, and automatic that... but I've yet to see one that does a 'great' job... And, some even include article spinning options... and they can submit to 1000's of article directories... on and on. Let me tell you something, there's nothing like your article on "the care and feeding of horses" posted on an article directory, dedicated to computer hard drives... because the submitter couldn't find the proper place to put your article. Now there's a great backlink for Google to see, and your SEO.
Now, aside from that... here's what I found when I finally dumped them, and decided to 'do it myself'. I found a great feeling of satisfaction. That feeling removed me from two mentalities prevalent with many Internet marketers, and wannabees.
1. Let's find the 'shortcut'... the 'fast' way of getting it done. The 'lazy' way of doing it... I just push a button and voila!, all done.
2. And the satisfaction of learning to become a better writer instead of a better spinner.... you learn how to write better for general purposes and you learn how to write better for promotion.
It's just better for the long-haul of your online business to do it yourself, by being yourself. I won't even outsource for an article. When I communicate with people, I want them to know it's real.... folks are becoming so wise, intellectually and intuitively whether what they're reading is from a real person, or an outsourced source, or a spun, or public domain offering...
There's nothing like taking a little pride in accomplishing an honestly written article with an intent to offer an answer and help to some other human being with a problem of serious concern to them.
IMO
Ok.. I know when I'm rambling
All the Best
Cliff
