In my opinion, I would just redirect the new name to the old site or have a specific focus on the new site and link to the old one from the new one.
So you could tell people to go to lauramillerhelps and it would redirect to the original site.
The google tool bar shows a PR1 so you have an established site that is indexed and provides value and traffic. The old site also has a keyword in the URL.

Hi Laura,
I don't see anything wrong with your original domain. It's easy to say and remember, which is only really important if you are doing radio, teleseminars, or public speaking. If you do mainly online marketing, your target market is going to be clicking on a link and/or revisiting through a bookmark or an email update from you.
Everyone has "advice" but if you listen to every little thing anyone tells you, they'll keep you jumping through hoops forever.
I would use the second domain, lauramillerhelps.com, as a page where people can submit their web design questions, or hire you for services/consulting, or a one-sheet that you use as a PR bio to get radio/podcast/webinar publicity.

Absolutely! Add case studies and product reviews - that is incredibly helpful for people who are reading at your site. They need to know which product for what purpose and why. You can start with the things you already use yourself such as your web host, domain registrar, mailing list manager, sources for templates or themes, etc.
