Not sure what you mean about it not really being free because it is but they do have a free trial for their paid keyword subscription which is totally different from the free keyword tracker (http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/).

The free keyword tracker is daily searches.

Angie, remind me please: Is this tool showing local traffic or global traffic?

I used to buy time using Wordtracker. It used to be that you could buy a day's access or a week or month.

It's worth saying in passing that it is not a keyword tracker but a keyword research tool. When I want to build an authority site paid wordtracker is nice and easy to use but market samurai will get you a ton of keywords at no cost so there's little reason to pay for it unless you just love wordtracker and hate market samurai

The best Keyword research tool is Market Samurai in my opinion...it's such a powerful piece of software...it costs, but the benefits outway it by far.

You should check it out.

Thanks Angie. A simple search is free, but the site makes it sound like you get more if you buy the plan. Have you bought the plan? Is that something I need to consider? Or, am I misunderstanding? Is the paid plan for "PPC" keywords only?

Thank you so much for clarifying the keyword search is for daily searches. That clears up so much for me!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :)

You're welcome:)

I have not bought the plan so I have just used the free keyword research tool they offer which Lynn has recommended and used herself. I would imagine it might be something to think about if you are doing more like PPC and stuff but I don't know anything about PPC so I can't answer on that.

You'll get a lot of input on various keyword research tools but for the beginner and even for the mega advanced like Lynn, the free Wordtracker tool works!

Hope this helps!

Angie, remind me please: Is this tool showing local traffic or global traffic?

Good question, Jeanette, I'm not 100% sure but I think it would be global.

Can anyone verify this? Thanks

I agree with bornstein75. Market Samurai is amazing and the keyword research tool is free. There's a bit of a learning curve but it's well worth it once you understand how to use it. :)

Way back when I tried the free trial version of the paid Keyword tracker and while it gave you access to more features and larger lists, it was too costly for me at the time.

Since then, I have invested in Market Samurai and can't say enough good things about it as a keyword research tool. They include many other features besides keyword research. The fee for the paid version is a one time fee and they've put together some nice tutorials to help you along and are constantly updating them.

This actually is a very important issue for those of us who are selling (or as affiliates) for hard products that require shipping.

ebooks or other downloaded sales can have prospective purchasers on a global area as no shipping is involved.

Howsever, it seems logical (to me) that hard product sales really should be based on local numbers. The cost of shipping to international locales would cancel the "ready to buy" button.

If I am accurate in that assumption, and if WT is global, would that make google local numbers a more accurate tool for these hard product searches where shipping costs are involved?

Or am I overanlyzing this again?

Shelle, you can use this here: http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ No need to sign up for anything.

Shel,
I don't have that problem. That is odd.

Shelle - You can use the free version of market samurai. The keyword section is fully functional

I think what that means is that they give you a fully functioning Market samurai with all sections turned ON for x days. After that they prompt you to pay.

If, like me , you don't pay they turn OFF all the sections of market samurai except the keyword research section.

But that is the important section as far as I'm concerned so I'm not bothered.

BTW here is another free keyword tool that also does competitive analysis http:
//www.traffictravis.com/ (http://www.traffictravis.com/)

When traffic travis analyses the top 20 sites for the keyword you give it, it grades the task of getting a top position as 1 to 5 stars and also gives you a simple score. A keyword I analysed today came out as "Relatively easy"

That's the ones I like

:-)

There is also a pro version of traffic travis but the only difference is that you can save the results in a file.

I love traffic travis and I have the pro version because i got it free when I bought Commission Ritual.

"Market Samauri. The software requires a bit of a learning curve, "

Yes it does. On the upside when you get keyword and competition research done correctly everything you do will work; getting this wrong like most people do...well nothing much will work.

Jeannette - if you only want to market to specific countries or even states or cities, you'll want to use paid advertising through Google Adwords and created targeted geographical ad campaigns.

WordTracker results (and most keyword research results) are global. WordTracker results in the Free Keywords Tool are the approximate number of searches by day across the major search engines.

I've never been locked out of the tool, but I have never done 30/hour either...
